Not a week after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended, CBS is the first broadcast network out of the gate with a game plan for the delayed regular TV season.
CBS’ schedule, which kicks off in February 2024 — right after getting loads of promotion during its airing of the Super Bowl — is nearly identical to the Fall TV slate announced back in May, when the WGA strike was getting underway. The only differences are that Kathy Bates’ new Matlock series has been pushed to the 2024-25 TV season (as has the Wayanses’ Poppa’s House sitcom; more on those delays here), and CSI: Vegas is now closing out Sunday nights.
Justin Hartley’s Tracker, as previously announced, will tackle the coveted post-Super Bowl slot, Carrie Preston’s Good Wife spinoff Elsbeth will still call Thursday home, and as the photo above means to remind you, NCIS: LA alum LL Cool J is locked in to continue his NCIS: Hawai’i arc.
Most CBS series are planning to have 10-13 episodes each, running into May.

Woo hoo!!!
Why cancel East New York
Wait, why is Amazing Race S36 90min episodes? I thought they filmed a season but then POSTPONED that to air a newer season they shot that was optimized to 90min since it didn’t make sense to re-edit the season they already had (and edited for 1hr episodes). Did they actually re-edit that season after all or is this an even NEWER season while the previous postponed season is still postponed?
I think this would be season 35 which was supposed to be 36 and it appears they probably did re-edit
I can’t decide if it’s specifically the 90 minute versions, or just that all the contestants I found interesting got eliminated early, but I’ve been so bored by this season that I actually just stopped watching. I loved the “Covid seasons” after falling out of love with this show years ago, so i’m not enthused to hear they’ll keep up the 90 minute edits.
I’m the same. I’ve watched the show basically since the start. Never missed a season. Got bored after a few episodes of this season and haven’t gone back to it.
I completely forgot about Elsbeth! That and getting the resolution to that cliffhanger from The Equalizer will work for me.
Feb. 15th – I think you meant to put 8 PM for Young Sheldon, not 9 PM.
Good catch, thanks!
Huzzah! I am looking forward to Ghosts.
Wish they’d reconsider East New York!!
That is logistically impossible sadly.
I concur!
CSI: Vegas on late Sunday nights works great for me (I loved watching The Rookie live when it was in that same time slot)
It’s also unlikely ABC will air scripted there this season (unlike with Milo’s show last spring). With that, Big Sky, Alaska Daily, Rookie: Feds all canceled, shows like Good Lawyer not moving forward, and High Potential held for next season, even with 9-1-1 acquisition, they just don’t have enough scripted shows for all the empty hour-long slots, some will end up non-scripted and Sundays is a likely candidate for that. NBC Sundays is much more of a question mark post-football, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they also didn’t have scripted on Sundays this spring unlike last year. Maybe Transplant season 4.
How about they scoop up SWAT.. season 8 😀😀😀😀
Still bummed that CBS canceled East New York. I LOVED that show. Had an awesome cast.
Sadly it was TV politics. If it came down to ENY or SWAT they’d go with the longer aired show with one of their poster actors. Shemar has been CBS network face since Criminal Minds and sadly a first season show was expendable. Its a shame I liked how it had a lightheartedness to it copared to CBS other cop shows.
having read the first three Coulter Shaw novels by Jeffery Deaver, i am very excited for Tracker. Although Justin Hartley is a bit older than the book character, i think he’ll be good in the role.
I just want to know who survived the FBI international finale when the fly team’s clubhouse went kablooey. Obviously not Forrester he’s the main hero, obviously not Kellet or Vo, Rains was outside so he can be ruled out I hope its not Smitty I actually like her work hard party harder attitude she’s a pro but off duty she’s chilled. So likely its Damien unless they uno reverse card and kill off one of the others.
Not a big fan of the 90 minute Amazing Race. It does seem like it is being stretched to fill the timeslot even if this current season was meant to be 90 minutes. It just makes the teams seem slow to complete the tasks. Though it is nice that we are getting two contests this season. I assume the second 90 minute contest was done to cover the time available due to other shows being held for the fall.
When the schedule was announced last May weren’t there shows that were being held for midseason? Are they included in the new schedule or are they MIA.
I feel like the 90-minute eps of Survivor are bloated, but Amazing Race, no. It flows well, and the 90 minutes pass quickly.
Original schedule announced in May is hyperlinked above. — Mgmt.
Tracker and Poppa’s House were for midseason; Elsbeth and Matlock were for fall. New schedule finds one from each group still debuting this winter (Tracker & Elsbeth), and one from each being held for next season (Matlock & Poppa’s House). This also is not counting the likes of Raid the Cage, Buddy Games, and the loteria non-scripted entries.
oh, CSI: Vegas was also going to be midseason as CBS was going to adjust as needed for football overruns, but it was penciled in for Sundays at 10/9c after football.
Thank you for the update on Matlock. I didn’t see anything about it in the article and was afraid it may have been scrapped due to the strike. I adore Kathy Bates and have been looking forward to the show since it was announced.
I wonder if CBS will continue Yellowstone through January until Tracker premieres and the schedule stabilizes following the Super Bowl. Could show at least through season 3.
On Christmas Eve they are re-airing one of the past holiday TV movies, and NYE coverage for NYE. I’m not sure how the episodes line up with those accounted for, but it does seem likely they could keep airing Yellowstone until then besides the two holiday weeks.
Is Tracker that bad that they only have a single, 11 second trailer for it that explains nothing?
Nope, it’s that good that they wanted to get a teaser out this past spring even before they had enough footage shot for a proper trailer.
I’m happy to see NCIS: Hawi’I season 3
That’s a month later than I thought for Young Sheldon. If they really mean to do 14 episodes, are they gonna end in June or something? O.O
Actually, this would allow them to have a clean run without any skipped weeks or mini-hiatus and still end in May for sweeps.
One report said Ghosts might only have 10 eps, so if that is true, Young Sheldon could also have a one-hour season finale. I hope Ghosts has at least 12 but we’ll see. It’s possible the ghost effects make it a bit more complicated than a standard sitcom, even though there aren’t too many.
I’ll be fine if we get a solid 10 for Ghosts, but I would be even happier with 12-13 episodes. :D
Still have to account for the march madness break, I don’t see CBS skipping what makes them money.
Doh! I completely forgot about March Madness, which was silly since I love basketball. So that’s potentially three weeks that we may miss out on new episodes.
I forgot those too, but typically it only impacts two weeks, not three, in terms of Thurs & Fri primetime on CBS (with other games on cable or over the weekend, and the finals on CBS usually on a Monday night). I definitely think we’ll see at least one week with back-to-back Young Sheldons then.
Anyone hear anything about EVIL?
Its filming got interrupted with strike-related delays, but it should be coming in 2024.
Production on season 4 was mostly done prior to the strikes. Around the same time as the start of strikes, a cast member temporarily exited for personal/family reasons, and it sounded like they were going to call it a wrap on season 4 and make it work somehow. Streaming shows with FX usually take longer, for example The Boys finished filming last April also and isn’t expected until 2024 sometime. Since they haven’t announced it yet, I’d expect one soon for early/mid 2024. Hopefully enough time has passed for the cast member to also return to filming if needed or for the next season.
I still need to go back and restart Evil. I started in Season 1 and then got distracted, so I have a lot to catch up with before Season 4 starts.
Bring back NCIS los Angeles and let new Orleans. You have too many boring reality shows my family will never watch
Survivor and Amazing Race are the only reality shows on that schedule.
It would be nice if NCIS LA had a wrap up movie involving Hetty and Kilbride’s apparent retirement. Unfortunately, that will probably not happen. The actors have signed on to other projects and the sets are probably taken down by now.
NCIS NOLA was a favorite, even after LaSalle (country mouse) and Brody and Sonja (city mouse) moved on. I was sad to see it go. I just can’t seem to get into Hawaii. Maybe if they used some of the characters from Hawaii5-0 and Magnum.
I think now that The good lawyer isn’t happening on ABC, they should rename Elsbeth.
While I like your thinking, I think she is acting more like a police consultant helping to investigate & solve crimes than a lawyer in the new show. My understanding is that it’s in the long tradition of shows like Mentalist, Bones, Castle, White Collar, Lucifer, etc. where a non-cop character ends up helping a detective; see also ABC’s High Potential moved to next season. The Good Consultant? The Good Investigator? The Good Apple? (since she also has relocated to NYC from Chicago). Not sure, but if she’s not practicing law, than Good Lawyer is not the best fit, but would be great if she was doing that in the spin-off.
I am not all excited by the return of Fire Country or as I like to call, Falcon Crest with Trees. The way they ended the first season was ridiculous. The show has become too much of an evening soap opera. To think that CBS could not strike a deal to continue Magnum and instead we get this show.
Last season it was CBS’ top-rated drama (tie), and the most-watched and highest-rated new show on all networks.
Yes it was highly rated and watched thanx to the first half of the season being so good but it did get close to unwatchable by the end. Hope they get back to what made it so good -more fire and less soap!
And sending Bodie back to prison was ridiculously annoying and lazy writing. If that is still the case I won’t be watching.
Woohoo, glad to get a date for “Ghosts”! Looking forward to February 15th, then!
So does CBS still have football on Sundays? Want to watch those shows but I can’t stand the football delays…
The Super Bowl (airing Feb. 11) typically ends the football season. –Mgmt.
You should be good. Football will be over before the shows return.
There might be a couple sports delays in spring due to things like The Masters golf tourney in April, but it’s not as common/frequent at all for spring.
When is Seal Team returning? CBS or Paramount +.
Finally some good programming to look forward too. So happy Blue Bloods and So Help Me Todd will be back.
Why NCIS Los Angles ???
East New York should not have been cancelled!
