Two of broadcast television’s biggest hits are guaranteed to return next season.
CBS on Tuesday handed early renewals to Thursday comedy Ghosts and Friday procedural Fire Country. The former will be entering its fourth season while the latter will be heading into its third. Exact episode orders for each were not disclosed.
Ghosts this season is averaging 8.7 million total viewers and a 0.8 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), ranking No. 2 in audience among all TV comedies (trailing only lead-in Young Sheldon) and tying Sheldon for the top spot in the demo. Compared to its sophomore averages (9.1 mil/0.9), the hitcom is down just a tick.
Fire Country Season 2 is thus far averaging 7.6 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating, also down just a bit from its previous averages (8.4 mil/0.8). Among all broadcast dramas airing this TV season, it ranks No. 2 in the demo (trailing only Tracker‘s Super Bowl-inflated tally).
The Fire Country pickup comes as CBS readies the potential spinoff Sheriff Country, starring Gotham and Homeland vet Morena Baccarin.
“Ghosts and Fire Country are proven viewer favorites on both broadcast and streaming thanks to exceptional storytelling, talented actors and an ever-growing fan base,” said CBS president Amy Reisenbach in a statement. “We are elated to keep the momentum going and bring them back to CBS next season.”
Last week, CBS also issued an early renewal to the new Justin Hartley drama Tracker.
Yay Ghosts! Best comedy on broadcast (sorry Abbott).
Why put down Abbott? The general public & critics disagree with you.
I love both shows. Abbott is awesome. 😎
Not sure they’re putting Abbott down. They just think Ghosts is the best. They didn’t say the didn’t like it.
Well, he set up a comparison when Abbott wasn’t even in the conversation.
It’s their opinion…why do you care so much?
I imagine for the same reasons that you care to reply to my post.
Because you’re insinuating Christian “put down” Abott when he/she did not. Perhaps that is his/her second favorite show and it came to mind in that way?
Christian said Ghosts is BEST Comedy. There can only be ONE best. The definition of BEST excludes the possibility of a second candidate. If you have two, NEITHER can be best.
Lighten up. Abbott gets all the awards and the poster was just commenting a personal belief.
Well, people are replying with their personal beliefs. Maybe leaving Abbott out of her/his comments would’ve been better. She/he obviously did it for a reason.
Finally CBS is renewing sone shows like: Fire Country, . Ghosts it’s ok. Why don’t y’all reconsiders Fire Ststion, it’s a great series and shldn’t be canceled. And some others especially Good Doctor, don’t even think about getting rid of Chicago Med, Fire or PD, Greys Anatomy, need to renew Bob Abishola great series, I could keep on naming more, think about all this CBS.
I’m assuming you’re not watching in the US. Not all those are on CBS. Grey’s, Fire Station 19, and Good Doctor are ABC and the Chicago’s are NBC.
Good Doctor is on A different Channel ABC , if your talking about the Spin off of Grey’s Anatomy, that to is on ABC. Everything that got Renewed was on CBS.
Nice. I love both shows.
Just goes to show you people, including me, will watch a show with poor acting. Re: Fire Country
I still say not renewing Bob Loves Abishola is a crappy move.
And South Brooklyn!!!!
Brooklyn South was cancelled in 1998. Did you mean East New York?
I’m so glad about Ghost. My favorite show on TV. I will miss Sheldon, it has had a very strong last season.
In case you missed it, CBS officially ordered a spinoff of Young Sheldon with the brother and his wife(? – I actually don’t watch so am not sure of relationship status). I do watch and love Ghosts and wonder when Rose is due. Perhaps they will try to film a few episodes for next season before she gives birth.
Hmm not sure if they’ll just roll into next season after shooting this one, she’s probably close enough to already be ready for time off to have the wee babe. Depends on how much time she’ll want to take off. With summer and if they push the start a bit she might not need to miss anything and if she does it probably will only be a couple at the beginning. Since she’s the one that see’s them it would be hard to keep her off screen for long without writing a work around that isn’t to weird or off-putting. I think it’s too early for Jay to see them yet. Him working around not seeing them makes it funny.
Yes on Ghosts!. Have not watched Fire Cointry this season. Just cannot with the Broody drama.
I am so glad they are renewing Ghosts and FC. I love those shows.
Excellent news
I love Fire Country the action is off the charts and I’ve also fell in love with Tracker. Justin Hartley is awesome in this
CBS need to reconsider ending swat
They did last May.
After initially cancelling the series on May 5.
Three days later they reversed that decision.
Agreeing to a 13 episode season to wrap up the series.
As shows age they get costlier to produce.
Sony is the main studio and CBS is co-producer.
CBS pays Sony a license fee.
It’s not financially feasible to continue the series.
Sony handles international distribution while CBS handles domestic.
so happy to hear about the season 4 renewal of Ghosts!
Ok so Ghosts and Fire Country are fan favorites and get renewed but Blue Bloods A big fan favorite gets cancelled!!!!!
Both shows are also a lot younger than Blue Bloods and unfortunately shows get more expensive as they age. All the cast changes helps some of the Dick Wolf shows and Grey’s deal with this, even if a few remain on but you can’t do that with a family drama where almost all remain. It definitely still does well, and while it will be missed, I’m also glad CBS is giving them time to end it right.
Love Fire Country!! And love the actress Baccarin!! Hope the series come to fruition!!
I love watching fire country best show.l have seen in a long time
Kudos CBS. Now pull a shocker and renew “Blue Bloods”.
Renew Blue Bloods!!
Yay, so happy about “Ghosts”! Great news.
Ghosts is my all time favorite the storytelling is unique and fresh – love everyone of the actors and how the weave their past into present time. Look forward to every weeks episode so glad the network renewed!
I wish CBS / Paramount + would show the last 3 series of the UK Ghosts. Maybe over the summer? Happy to heat the US version has been renewed for a 3rd season. Perhaps it will move to Thursdays at 8 PM in the fall now that Young Sheldon is ending .
I still think Magnum was much better than Fire Country but I do like Fire Country.
I’m so excited about these renewals! Ghosts has been the only comedy to really keep me tuned in since Modern Family. I like a couple of other comedies, but none that I look forward to watching all week. I’m more of a drama and action girl, so both Fire Country and Tracker are favorites as well. So far, I’m feeling good about renewal season.
Truth be told, Fire Country is a thinly disguised ad for the horrible practice of private prisons.
Hooray for Ghosts!! As Isaac would say, huzzah!!!
I hope So Help Me Todd also gets a renewal. I really like that show.
