And now for your moment of the-opposite-of-zen…
Paramount has effectively shut down its Comedy Central website, TVLine has confirmed. Prior to this week, ComedyCentral.com had been home to a repository of clips that included video from every episode of The Daily Show since 1999 and all of The Colbert Report.
Also included in the purge: snippets from and episodes of @midnight, The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore and The Opposition With Jordan Klepper.
Latenighter.com first reported the site’s gutting. TVLine has reached out to Paramount for comment.
The site’s shutdown follows that of two other Paramount-owned properties: MTV.com (including its in-depth MTV News archives), TVLand.com and CMT.com. While all of the domains remain active, a pop-up notice on each homepage lets readers know that “while most episodes of [insert channel here] series are no longer available on this website, you can watch [insert channel here] through your TV provider. You can also sign up for Paramount+ to watch many seasons of [insert channel here] shows.”
Much of the content housed on the now-dark sites, however, is not currently available on Paramount+.

A year ago, here in Canada, the bastards at Bell Media quietly removed TDS from CTV late-nights as well as CTV Comedy Channel & quietly put on Paramount+ (Canada). If you watch Pluto TV (Canada), their often-aired commercials rub salt in the wounds by finishing with the tag line: “Canada’s New exclusive home to The Daily Show.”
I’d expect you Americans to brace yourselves. It’s fight or flight for Para+….. they either put all they can on it or pull the plug. If they merge with Peacock, then it’d certainly be curtains for CC.
It makes it all the more delicious that Bell’s competitors scored a coup last months striking a deal with Warners Discovery stealing away Discovery brand as well as Paramount-made Star Trek series from CTV Sci-Fi & Crave. Soooo… no need to sub to Para+ (Canada) here.
They used to let you watch the last 2 weeks of current shows for free, but that has now been pulled as well.
Any attempt to check a recent show directs you to P+, where they will happily sign you up for a “free” trial.
For all of you complaining about a website being shut down, when is the last time you visited the website. If you haven’t been visiting it regularly, you have nothing to complain about.
