Criminal Minds Scores Early Renewal Ahead of Season 17 Premiere

Paramount+’s Criminal Minds revival has been renewed for another season, it was officially announced on Wednesday morning. The good news comes a day ahead of the crime drama’s double-episode Season 17 premiere (streaming Thursday, June 6).
Filming will begin in mid-August, series front woman Paget Brewster revealed on Will Harris’ Random Roles Substack.
Last season on Criminal Minds (aka Evolution), the BAU’s elite profilers — Emily Prentiss (played by Brewster), David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook), Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) and Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) — went up against Elias Voit (Friday Night Lights‘ Zach Gilford), an UnSub who had spent the COVID pandemic cultivating a network of serial killers.
Season 2 picks up just two weeks after the events of that finale, as the team investigates “Gold Star,” the mysterious entity Voit used to bait FBI Deputy Director Bailey, whom he then killed. As that conspiracy unfolds, Prentiss & Co. are met with an unexpected complication when Voit negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody, right in the BAU’s own backyard.
Brewster, Mantegna, Cook, Vangsness, Tyler and Rodriguez are all returning for Evolution‘s second installment arriving this week — as are both Gilford and Ryan-James Hatanaka, as onetime person of interest Tyler Green. Additionally, former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Clark Gregg is now heading up the FBI, and Desperate Housewives‘ Felicity Huffman will show up as OG team member Jason Gideon’s ex-wife. Fantastic news! The first season of the reboot was one of the better seasons of the show. Can’t wait for the new season and now another one after that!
Not to nitpick, but reboot is a bad term here. It’s a continuation or revival instead of a reboot.

Since Criminal Minds was stopped and then started up again, I think my description of reboot is accurate.

I’m extremely disappointed that Criminal Minds is only being shown on Paramount and not on regular TV programming channels. I’ve been a huge fan for years but haven’t been able to watch Evolution.
It’s because Evolution is a Paramount+ Original. If you watch a lot of stuff on CBS, I’d recommend looking into a subscription. Obviously depending on whatever your financial situation is would drive whether or not you actually subscribe, and that’s completely understandable.
Just for some information: a yearly subscription is ~$120 for ad-free. I’m not sure what the ad-tier is at, nor do I know what the monthly cost is for either plan. Plus, so far anyway, Paramount+ hasn’t done away with password sharing like Netflix and Disney+.
Ad supported is about $60 USD per year on an annual plan. That’s how I pay for it

Discovery, The Good Fight, Lower Decks all had 4+ seasons, Picard, Mayor of Kingstown has had at least 3. Paramount+ is one of the few to usually renew shows
The Frasier reboot got renewed for a second season as well!!

Question… officially is this season 2 that starting tomorrow or season season 17 of criminal minds and just the 2nd season under the subtitle evolution?
All I will say is that all of the photos furnished by Paramount+ are coded for “Season 17.” So with occasional exception, we stand by it being Criminal Minds Season 17, the second season of ‘Evolution.’
I really hope they don’t kill Will or have a divorce! Someone has to be happy hopefully he’s just busy :(
Or they name drop mention him. Rossi loosing Carol, Lewis breaking up with her girlfriend, the out of left field paring of Alvez and Garcia not to mention Garcia’s new thing with the criminal someone needs some happiness outside chasing unsubs.
