The case of Elsbeth‘s fate at CBS has been cracked: The Good Wife spinoff has officially been renewed for Season 2, TVLine has learned.
Season-to-date, Elsbeth is averaging 7.3 million total viewers and a 0.45 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), delivering 25% more viewers than CSI: Vegas did in the Thursday closer slot last season, while matching its demo number. Out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this TV season, Elsbeth ranks No. 10 in audience and bests only NCIS: Sydney in the demo.
“Elsbeth has charmed audiences with its singular blend of delightful humor, distinctive ‘how-done-it’ storytelling, and the inventive, brilliant quirkiness of Elsbeth Tascioni,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said in a statement on Thursday. “Executive producers Robert and Michelle King have a stellar track record for creating critically acclaimed series full of unforgettable characters and, alongside showrunner Jonathan Tolins and his writing team, have developed an incredibly entertaining and engrossing New York City-centric world for the show to explore. We are grateful to the uniquely talented cast, led by Carrie Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson, for bringing these wonderful characters to life in the company of a world-class roster of weekly guest stars.”
The second Good Wife offshoot (following Paramount+’s The Good Fight), Elsbeth finds Preston reprising her role of Elsbeth Tascioni, an astute but unconventional attorney using her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner criminals alongside the NYPD. Pierce co-stars as NYPD Captain C.W. Wagner, while Patterson plays Kaya Blanke, a police officer who develops an appreciation for Elsbeth’s ways.
Elsbeth‘s renewal comes halfway through its current freshman season, which airs new episodes Thursdays at 10/9c. In tonight’s installment, Elsbeth and Kaya investigate the coach and father (played by Blair Underwood) of a dead tennis star.
TVLine’s 2024 Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect Elsbeth‘s good news. Still awaiting word on their fates are fellow CBS series CSI: Vegas, The Equalizer, NCIS: Hawai’i and So Help Me Todd, the last of which could be in peril at the network.
Happy to hear that Elsbeth will be back? Tell us below!
If CBS could renew this why not So Help Me Todd
Because it’s a decent performing show helmed by the Kings. Robert and Michelle King are beloved at Paramount Global.
The 1st season of Todd was WONBDERFUL. This season has just not been as good. The Allison character has been weighing it down. I am not sure they’ve ever known just what to do with her &n this season, it’s gotten worse.
Agreed. It’s not as enjoyable as it used to be.
Totally agree. While I hope they renew the show, I hope they get rid of Allison, Susan and Beverly!!! They have really brought the show down.
Love Alison. Her character is one of the best on the show. And she plays it so, so well.
And they need an “in” at the hospital. I’d put her back with the ex hubby, who seemed great. Ditch Susan and Bev, for sure. They are setting that up for something bad.
I fear that Todd and Elspeth is an “either/or” situation. I worried that they wouldn’t both be back. And, I like Els more than I thought (never watched Good Wife, so have no background on her). But I really worry that Els’s formula will get real old after a while.
It has for me. I liked the first 3 episodes but i can’t bring myself to watch ep 4 or 5. I’m already bored with the murder of the week premise. Elsbeth is great as an attorney, but its way beyond belief that she can solve these complex murders, once or twice maybe, but not every show. I trust the Kings to find their way at some point, so i’m still hoping for something good.
love eLSBETH SO FUNNY ITS A TV SHOW NOT REAL LIFE
Now do So Help Me Todd.
Never watched one second of it.
I do watch NCIS: Hawaii all the time.
Attention, CBS. That’s what we are waiting on.
Hey Chuck just so you know they program the schedule based on more than just your personal viewing habits.
Never watched NCIS: Hawai’i, but love Elsbeth, so I’m happy. And I hope you get news soon.
Hallelujah! I’ve loved the Elsbeth character ever since The Good Wife! So glad she has her own show and it’s been renewed!
CBS, PLEASE RENEW SO HELP ME TODD!!!!! I love that show too!
CBS has it right. Elsbeth is a breath of fresh air with the take off of Columbo.
I enjoy Elsbeth. Love the cast. Now get on the ball and renew Todd, CBS.
I had never seen Carrie Preston before Elsbeth premiered and now I absolutely love both the actress & her bewitching character! As for So Help Me Todd – this most recent episode was probably its best one yet. 5 out of 5 stars although I miss Gus so very, very much. Jeffrey Nordling and Marcia Gay Harden are magical together!
Naw Naw Naw they better renew So Help Me Todd!
I hope so. But when I saw the story the other day that it could be on the chopping block, I was shocked. I always thought the ratings were good enough for a renewel. Hopefully, it’ll get renewed or if it does get the axe, it finds a new home on another network. Regardless, I hope it does get a season 3 renewel.
Great news. My fear is that the format will get stale. Hopefully, they make it more unpredictable.
Agreed. Love the character, but tuned out halfway through episode 2. It became obvious far too early they were doing an Orient Express thing. I feel like “Poker Face” is far better at the how-catch-em genre. They still manage to throw in some twists.
That is great on Elsbeth Renewal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the shows I voted for to be renewed. One down, two more to go. Fingers crossed.
I have loved Elsbeth since her first appearance on The Good Wife. The show isn’t what I had been expecting, but I’m enjoying the old school murder mystery format, and the revolving weekly guest stars — Linda Lavin, Retta, Jane Krakowski, Stephen Moyer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Great to hear Elsbeth is coming back.! It’s a fun show to watch , holding out hope for CSI Vegas I’m invested in the characters, one of my favorites so it will probably get cancelled. Still miss Hawai’i 5 0 ,
Yayyyyyyy!!!!!
Really enjoying the quirky Elsbeth. Each show has been excellent and is developing more deeply relationships. Thanks for renewing!
I am delighted to hear this good news! OK, Elsbeth, you can stop popping your head into every CBS show I watch. Sit back and relax; you deserve it.
Omygosh!!! I am beyond happy to hear Elsbeth has been renewed. This show is such a nice CHANGE AND OF PACE for what the networks are grinding out these days. The character is quirky and hilarious and smart !! Love her costar and their interaction !! This show and Will Trent are my two new loves❤️❤️❤️
Please renew NCIS-Hawaii. Love all the NCIS shows.
So glad Elsbeth got renewed. She is funny and gets the job done.
Elsbeth is a Columbo clone … refreshing.
Looking forward to all 10 seasons. Would be nice if So Help Me Todd survives too.
Yeah!
I’m glad. The show is decent but a second season will give it room to grow and time for the cast to really gel. I love Carrie Preston. She’s played so many supporting roles and bit characters over the years so I’m really happy to see her headlining a show.
Everything I watch on a regular basis is on CBS. Of the four shows still not renewed, the only one I wouldn’t miss is CSI Vegas. The Equalizer is one of my favorites and I really hope it gets renewed!
Yippy for Elsbeth, enjoying it ,hope it has a long run
Elsbeth requires a bit of dramatic license as in real life the next victim would be Elsbeth herself. It’s just been a bit too easy for her to catch the crook though.
Very happy it was renewed!
Hopefully the quality of Elsbeth will improve. Really like the concept the execution is wonky.
