CBS has awarded full-season orders to all three of its new scripted series — East New York, Fire Country and So Help Me Todd, aka this fall’s three most-watched freshman programs.[pmc_inline_gallery]
No details were available on exactly how many total episodes define each show’s “full season.”
East New York, which airs Sundays and stars Amanda Warren as the NYPD’s newly installed Deputy Inspector in a working-class neighborhood on the edge of Brooklyn, tied NBC’s Quantum Leap as the fall’s highest-rated series premiere. With Live+7 DVR playback folded in, it is thus far averaging 7.4 million total viewers (No. 2 among all new shows) and a 0.7 demo rating (tied for No. 1).
Fire Country, starring and co-created by SEAL Team vet Max Thieriot, airs on Fridays and follows a prison inmate firefighting program in Northern California. It broke out as the fall’s most-watched series debut, and with Live+7 is averaging 8.3 million viewers (the largest audience of any new series) and a 0.6 rating.
So Help Me Todd leads out of the hitcom Ghosts on Thursdays, and stars Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin as a meticulous attorney and the talented but aimless son she hires as her law firm’s in-house investigator. It is averaging 6.5 million total viewers and a 0.5 rating with Live+7.
“We are thrilled to have the three most-watched new series, each with their own unique settings, characters and storylines,” CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl said in a statement. “These dramas are elevating our already successful lineup, resonating with diverse audiences both on-air and on streaming, and continuing to grow each week.”
Which of the above CBS hour-longs have you most been enjoying?

Love all three new offerings from CBS. I really like watching the series on appointed dates and times. Scripted programming does work when well thought out and promoted. And look, even on Fridays!
I love So Help Me Todd! the humor is so well written and the actors are great for their roles.
So far I’m liking Fire Country and East New York. I’m getting the NYPD Blue and Hills Street Blues vibe from ENY…really do like that cast. Nice to see Jimmy Smits too.
Totally agree!
This good news. I enjoy ENY & SHMT.
Yeah!!!
I love Jimmy Smits but didn’t really care for the show. Enjoying the humor in So Help Me Todd. I’m watching Fire Country because of Max, haven’t decided about the show yet.
I really enjoy all three of these shows and look forward to a full season. That is great news!
Still need to watch so help me Todd have the first 3 still dvred east New York isn’t bad so far wish it was on Fridays paired with blue bloods
I am sure this will annoy all the people that trash Fire Country but I love it and am excited it has a “full” season order
Me too! Frankly I won’t watch another cop show, and SHMT doesn’t sound interesting.
I really didn’t expect to like SHMT that much because well the name is pretty stupid. Factoring in the casting problems it had with it’s lead and the show runners last show not being my style, I thought it’d be gone by November. It surprised me how funny it is, how good the stories and acting are. Cringe title though.
Terrible title. Really terrible.
Maybe they’ll go the route of cougar town and makes jokes about the title as it goes on more
A show losing its lead does happen, so it’s part of the industry. Although Marcia wasn’t the first choice, it’s like the role was written for her. I like the title, but I have always loved games with words.
I agree. Marcia owns the role now.
I never cared about title of show
Especially because it’s Todd who really needs the help!
I like the title.
I enjoy all three of the shows, especially, East New York and Fire County. I do enjoy SO HELP ME TODD, but at time Todd really annoys me…
Great news! I’m a fan of ENY. Happy for the fans of Fire and SHMT.
We are enjoying all three!
Good decision
And they are not reboots.
Each of these shows is refreshing in its own way. There is an intrinsic charm to So Help Me, Todd. This is the same network that gave us Ghost. The basic storylines are all recognizable but presented in creative ways.
Who knows? Back years and years ago Friday was my favorite TV night. It could be again with a dedicated viewing of the other CBS programs mentioned.
Good job and thank you.
I haven’t yet checked out East New York, but I am caught up with the other two and I have been enjoying them.
So Help Me Todd is a fun show to watch. Marcia Gay Harden and Skyler Austin are great leads.
All of these series are great, glad to hear they going to be around
On a different series-chicago p.d.-2 wishes I have:
1st-hope Voight gets a love interest
2nd-love to have Voight see his grandson again
I love, love, LOVE “East New York!”
I grew up one neighborhood over (Brownsville, which makes ENY as depicted here seem affluent) and everything about it is accurate and gritty–without the right-wing preachiness of “Blue Bloods.” (Which I still watch for the drama & acting despite cringing at the politics, no doubt driven by Selleck’s own).
Even the precinct (albeit one digit removed) is the one B’ville shared with ENY back in the day. Warren is wonderful. The Killian character is an old-school dinosaur detective–but the writers have wisely decided to neither extol nor jusify his biases . His partner Casting directors have finally found Richard Kind’s comic-relief niche.
Only things that grate are Smits’ creepy John-Waters-esque pencil ‘stache; and the NFL playing havoc with my DVR settings (Even programming a 30-min. extension, I still have to record NCIS just to get the last few minutes of “ENY”).
The “His Partner” was a typo–thought better of what I was about to say, but my Delete key stuck.
So Help Me Todd is hilarious. Fire Country has Max Thieriot. I am happy about the full-season order for these two series.
Happy to hear this. I LOVE East New York, which makes sense to me because it came from the creators of NYPD Blue, one of my favorite cop shows of all time. Haven’t seen Fire Country yet and what I’ve seen of Todd, it looks good too. I’m happy to see these rookie shows gain some traction.
Where is Macgyver’s full season order? CBS screwed it over big time by not even giving it a series finale or the promised season 5 epIsode 16. Don’t trust anything CBS does. They will cut your show as soon as you start to really enjoy it. One minute they were rooting for the show to have it’s ship set sail the next week with no rhyme or reason they cancelled it out of the blu & all because they got into a lawsuit with those involved with the original Macgyver. CBS’s fault for not checking things out & dotting all the i’ & crossing all the t’s before greenlighting Macgyver 2016. DON’T TRUST THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Any network who would come up with Good Sam, How We Roll & The New Love Boat should be i. Disgrace.
I couldn’t watch the new MacGyver because of the charm of the original. Sorry for the fans who miss it, but I couldn’t do it. I still watch the original on Paramount+.
I’m really enjoying California Fire, and my mom enjoys East New York. I’m glad they were picked up. I tried SHMT, but it didn’t grow on me. I’m glad it was picked up, though so maybe we’ll get more comedic hour long shows. I miss shows like Moonlighting and Monk, so this is a good open door.
So Help Me Todd is my favorite new broadcast/network series.
I can rest easy knowing SHMT is good. 🥂
