The drama between frenemies Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels isn’t over just yet: The Max comedy starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder has been renewed for Season 4, TVLine has learned.
The streamer announced the news on the heels of the Season 3 finale’s release Thursday.
“We congratulate Hacks‘ brilliant cast and crew, and our partners at Universal Television,” head of Max Original Programming Sarah Aubrey said in a statement. “Hacks is a masterfully crafted comedy delivering laughs and sharp insights about the vulnerability and joy of sharing a dream. The creative team behind this singular show is not only brilliant, but also a joy to work with. We couldn’t be happier to give viewers another season with Deborah, Ava and the rest of the Hacks family.”
Added president of Universal Television Erin Underhill: “Hats off to Jen [Statsky], Lucia [Aniello] and Paul [W. Downs] for crafting a world as compelling and poignant as it is clever and funny. We applaud our outstanding cast, who made it easy to fall in love with these flawed, hilarious and deeply human characters, and we thank everyone at Max for a terrific partnership over the first three seasons and counting. We can’t wait to deliver more Hacks to fans around the world!”
In Season 3 (which began streaming May 2), “Deborah Vance (Smart) rides high off the success of her stand-up special, while Ava (Einbinder) pursues new opportunities back in Los Angeles,” reads its official description. But Deborah and Ava are quickly reunited, kickstarting a new chapter of the women’s complicated personal and professional relationship.
Alongside its two leads, Hacks’ also stars Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Jane Adams, J. Smith-Cameron, Helen Hunt, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo, Lorenza Izzo and Christopher McDonald. Season 3 guest stars include Christopher Lloyd, Christina Hendricks, Dan Bucatinsky and Tony Goldwyn.

YAY!!! Very excited to see this brilliant show continue.
YES!! One of my favorite shows. Great news!
Yay! some good tv news for a change.
It seems like HBO/Max renews the absolute bare minimum of shows it can get away with, like a half a dozen?
Love this and can’t wait for Somebody Somewhere to return – an unappreciated show which I’m sure will be axed by HBO as they seem to be doing a lot lately. Hacks is a gem – funny and touching, wish we had more comedies like this!
Yay!! The actresses and this show are gold!!!
Yes – absolutely love this show and we have to see how Deborah does with her show!!! The writing is brilliant and Smart and Enbinder play the hell out of the material.👍
WOOHOO! This is fantastic news. I wanted to see how her time in the chair worked out. Imagine they will have some killer guest stars and some meta conversations. You know that she would bring the fiery delivery.
Great (and smart) decision by Max! So little on it that I want to watch.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
I was so worried they were being mum about any bad news after today.
Fantastic news!!! This past season was the best yet and has me so excited for season 4!
Thank goodness! And oof, what a finale. If it hadn’t been renewed, I would’ve wanted it to end, well earlier in the episode in case people haven’t watched yet.
