School’s out — forever — for TV’s fictional Tegan and Sara.
TVLine has confirmed that High School, the Freevee series inspired by twin performers Tegan and Sara Quin’s memoir, has been cancelled after one season.
According to our sister site THR, which first reported the news, Amazon execs were bullish enough on the series to have showrunner Clea Duvall open a mini writers room in late 2022, and in fact all Season 2 scripted got completed. But at the end of the day, the completion rate for the first eight-episode season was not high enough.
Season 1 of High School premiered in October 2022, with weekly releases.
High School was described as “a story about finding your own identity — a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimics your own.” Told through a backdrop of ‘90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaved between the parallel and often discordant memories of twin sisters Tegan and Sara (played by TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland) as they grow up down the hall from one another.
Cobie Smulders and fellow sitcom vet Kyle Bornheimer play the girls’ parents, Simone and Patrick.
Are you disappointed that High School has been cancelled?
BOOO!…. best original show in Freevee. I was looking forward to season 2. Not related to this show but I was also looking forward to season 2 of As We See It. Boo amazon.
Speaking as someone autistic, it is good that As We See it flopped. Those were the most irritating spectrum characters I’d ever seen and they would’ve done more damage than good.
:( this show was so good
I had a hunch not many people were watching but this was a damn good job, disappointed to hear this
I’m upset there will not be a season 2. This show was great and I think it deserves more.
