House of the Dragon Renewed for Season 3 at HBO, Ahead of Season 2 Premiere
Even the Greens and Blacks can agree this is news worth celebrating: House of the Dragon has been renewed for Season 3 at HBO.
The pickup comes just days before the Game of Thrones prequel returns for its long-awaited second season, premiering Sunday, June 16, at 9/8c on the premium cabler.
“George [R.R. Martin], [showrunner] Ryan [Condal], and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming, in a statement on Thursday. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular Season 2, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for Season 3.”
Based on Martin’s fantasy book Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the complicated story of House Targaryen. The forthcoming second season will stage an all-out war between the Blacks (Rhaenyra, Daemon & Co.) and the Greens (Aegon, the Hightowers and such), though Tom Glynn-Carney (who plays Aegon) recently told TVLine that his character most fears “himself” heading into the great showdown.
“The way he’s perceived and the way he reacts to that — he’s a ticking time bomb,” Carney shared. “Put in the wrong environment at the wrong time, the wrong frame of mind, he’s his own worst enemy… He will not be seen as weak.”

I’m just curious how many Seasons can the feasibly do before they get to Season 1 Episode 1 of Game of Thrones? They’re running on borrowed Narrative Time.
They won’t get anywhere close. The show adapts a specific portion of the book “Fire and Blood” with a definite ending long before even Robert’s Rebellion.
