The undead will continue to stalk AMC Networks with a Season 3 renewal of Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire, TVLine has learned. The news comes just four days before the show’s second season finale debuts on AMC+ and AMC (Sunday, 9/8c).
Here’s what we can expect from Season 3, per AMC: “Resentful of the perfunctory portrayal in the trashy bestseller Interview With The Vampire, the Vampire Lestat sets his story straight in a way only the Vampire Lestat can — by starting a band and going on tour. Gabrielle. Nicholas. Magnus. Marius. Those Who Must Be Kept. They join Louis, Armand, Molloy, Sam, Raglan, Fareed and others we can’t tell you about yet on a sexy pilgrimage across space, time and trauma. No auto-tuning. No trigger warnings. All feels amplified.”
Interview With the Vampire’s second season stars stars Jacob Anderson as Louis, Sam Reid as Lestat, Eric Bogosian as Daniel, Assad Zaman as Armand, Delainey Hayles as Claudia and Ben Daniels as Santiago. Creator and writer Rolin Jones serves as showrunner, executive-producing alongside Mark Johnson, Mark Taylor and Christopher Rice.
“When you buy the rights to 18 Anne Rice novels that have sold more than 150 million copies, in your wildest dreams you hope there’s a show as good as Interview on the other end,” Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, says in a statement. “What Rolin has done with these stories and characters, working so closely with Mark, as the steward of this universe, has exceeded the loftiest version of our expectations. We can’t wait to see where this creative team takes the series from here and know we are walking alongside an incredibly loyal and passionate base of fans who feel as strongly about this material as we do.”
“Thank you to the brilliant casts and crews of the first two seasons that got us to this day,” adds Jones. “Thank you to the rabid, beautifully unwell fandom that scaled the castle walls to get us to this day. Thank you to Dan McDermott, Ben Davis for the funds and tools to continue the great work of dramatizing Anne Rice’s extraordinary novels. And sincere apologies to the family and friends of actor Sam Reid, for the possession that continues to this day. Monsieur L extends his promise to return his body upon cancellation (may that evening never come).”
Book readers, what are you most excited to see in Season 3 of Interview With the Vampire? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.
Season 2 was superb and exceeded my expectations. The cast is stellar. Now the wait begins for season 3. Lestat forms a band? Gotta see that.
As the series progresses, it becomes grander & more epic. If they can pull it off on this show, I’m here for it.
This is “Queen of the Damned”! YES!!!!!
(Yes, I know it begins with “The Vampire Lestat,” but it leads to “Queen of the Damned,” and YESSS!!!!!!”
At the rate they are going we probably won’t see her majesty until at least season 6.
The next few books get progressively longer and more dense so it should be interesting to how many seasons this shapes up to since since the shortest novel already took 2 seasons to explore.
I just wish they’d done the same with the Mayfair Witches show. It was such a dumb move blowing through the first book in one season.
To be fair, they added some aspects of The Vampire Lestat – albeit very small ones – to Interview Season 2. They may incorporate some of Queen of the Dammed into Season 3. TBH I expect Season 3’s finale to introduce Queen A.
They have done an incredible job with this series! every episode is beyond Stellar. I understand season 3 will revolve around Lestat I hope we still get to see Louis & the Author.
So freaking excited for this! I know AMC is struggling but I hope we at least get a few more seasons.
I’m sure they will. I’m convinced they will adapt the whole series.
I’m really looking forward to this. The Vampire Lestat novel has so much story to tell. They could get 3 season out of it if they stick with the 8-episode seasons. Their casting has been on-point so I have high hopes for who they cast as Marius and Akasha.
Can’t wait until season three love the show!
This great news. Looking forward to it.
So happy! I don’t get why this show isn’t getting all the awards in the business, the production level is on top!!
Phenomenal series. So happy it’s renewed. And we’re finally getting a proper adaptation of The Vampire Lestat. 👏
I’ve been reading the Vampire Chronicles since the early 80’s, and after seeing one TV/Movie adaptation after another that failed to hit the mark, I’d honestly given up. I never expected to see such a beautifully crafted vision that portrayed the characters so well and so deeply, and each of the actors brings their character to life in such a gripping way. I think this is the best show on TV right now and cannot wait to see more!
Heh the description sounds like a coy joke, but based on the comments it seems real. Whatever, they’ve earned my trust, I’m absolutely here for wherever they want to take us. Season 2 has been stellar
I think this series is more than great, it is a blueprint to how to adapt an work changing everything without changing anything of the spirit. I don’t know how did you pull this out when so many others failed so badly. I do expect to see a wise move to not rush the queen of damned epilogue. Instead, work on the secondary stories of the new and old characters, such as Lestat, Armand, Marius and Pandora. Then, after this, you can go into a series finale (or maybe midpoint) with queen of damned resolution. I don’t know if the later works (SPOILER) on body snatching and Lestat meet Jesus are that good material for drama.
