Are Benson and Stabler breaking up once more?*
This week’s news that Season 5 of Law & Order: Organized Crime will stream on Peacock — instead of on NBC, where Seasons 1-4 aired — begs questions regarding interaction between OC and its sister series Law & Order: SVU.
Namely: Will the Dick Wolf series’ big crossover events happen anymore?
SVU characters have shown up on OC, and vice versa, several times in the past few seasons. The most recent example came at the end of SVU Season 24 and OC Season 3, when Stabler and Benson’s units worked together to take down the creator of a crime-for-hire portal.
The former SVU partners’ appearances in each other’s lives also have had a distinctly more-than-friends feel in the past several crossovers. In the aforementioned season-ending event, Chris Meloni’s Stabler and Mariska Hargitay’s Benson shared some close moments, including one where he gifted her with a golden compass necklace that Hargitay later told TVLine is a daily reminder from “somebody that [Benson] knows loves her.” Earlier in Season 24, the pair nearly kissed in Benson’s kitchen — and would have gone through with the smooch if Hargitay and Meloni had gotten their way.
Jeff Bader, president, program planning strategy, NBCUniversal Entertainment, tells us that he’s not aware of any decisions regarding upcoming SVU and OC storylines. “I want to say yes” to crossovers, he says with a laugh. “But no, we have not heard anything about the creative for next season yet.” In addition, word is still out about whether OC will stream in the fall, when SVU is back for Season 26.
Both series are slated to air their season finales on Thursday: SVU‘s at 9/8c and Organized Crime‘s at 10.
*Professionally, of course.
I wish TV Line would do more as it regards the storylines in their entirety for Organized Crime and not ones that revolve around SVU or the ship. Organized Crime has been great this season and everyone has brought their A game. It’s not fair this show got moved to Peacock. And the “press” that surrounds this show is about crossovers and ships not the work being done by the entire cast, including Meloni himself. His best work on the show has been this season. It’s not right, but whatever narrative you want to put out I suppose.
Why oh why does OC have to move. I invested years getting to know the characters. C. Meloni is terrific (as is his son Eli). I pay way too .much as it is for cable, not paying even more for peacock to watch one show. So no one else switches over, law and order OC gets the Axe. Makes no sense. Hopefully there is a weekly review on Google, or someplace.
Hope they have crossovers with Organized Crime andSVU next year to have more on Stabler and Benson story
Let’s hope for crossovers and some long-awaited Bensler content! Especially given the creative freedom/fewer restrictions that OC will have on Peacock.
If NBC thinks I will be paying for a streaming station, they’re nuts. All theses stations want is more and more money. The people making these decisions are brain dead.
Totally disappointed because how will I watch SVU and OC if I don’t have peacock and I’m not about to spend extra money on peacock I don’t understand why you did this to viewers it’s absolutely horrible you need to rework this somehow so that if there is a crossover of some sort that people who can only watch NBC will see those particular stories as crossovers!
Hope they have crossovers next season the last one was awesome love seeing them work together great team
THANK YOU NBC FOR YET SPOILING A NIGHT FOR THE VIEWERS. THIS MOVE IS ABOUT MONEY FOR PEACOCK. FOR SURE YOU WILL DO CROSSOVERS FORCING THE VIEWER TO PURCHASE PEACOCK IF THEY WANT TO SEE THE SECOND PART OF THE CROSSOVER ON OC THAT WOULD BEGIN ON SVU. YOU TOOK OUT MOLLY BURNETT WHO BROUGHT A DIFFERENT LIGHT TO SVU AND KEEP BRINGING BACK KELLI GIDDISH WHO IS REALLY JUST DULL & BORING NOW
JUST BE DONE WITH HER ALREADY & BRING NEW LIFE INTO THIS SHOW
I love OC and started back on SVU now that Stabler I’d back. I need them to Crossover… on the screen and from friends to forever partners. 🥰🤞😌
It would be a shame if they didn’t have crossovers anymore. The 3 way crossover they had between OG Law and Order, SVU and Organized Crime was one of the best series crossovers I’ve ever seen as it wasn’t just each of those shows with one or 2 special guests added but each show was a good mix of all the characters from across the 3 shows in one coherent story.
I’ll say yes to The Law and Order SUV and Law and Order Orangnize Crime and more moments between Elliott and Olivia and also Bobby and Jet
Please let there still be crossovers between the two shows. Everyone is on pins and needles waiting for their big kiss and the best ever reunion on television. Benson and Stabler need each other very much.
