The following contains a dialogue spoiler from the Season 2 finale of Leverage: Redemption on Freevee.
TV is having a very meta week so far, with no fewer than three shows working in wink-wink nods to cast member’s previous roles.
On Monday night, you had a Fantasy Island guest explaining how her friend disappeared “without a trace. Like the TV show” — to Elena Roarke, who is played by Without a Trace alum Roselyn Sanchez.
An hour later on Fox, Alert: Missing Person Unit‘s Nikki remarked on how “I love a fairytale ending” — and Nikki is played by Dania Ramirez, whose previous credits include Once Upon a Time (as Season 7’s Cinderella), Tell Me a Story (where in Season 1 she played a Gretel counterpart) and the fantasy series Sweet Tooth.
But the one to beat may have come during the Leverage: Redemption Season 2 finale, now streaming on Amazon Freevee.
Leverage vet Alec Hardison (now played on a recurring basis by series vet Aldis Hodge) for much of this season has been occasionally videoconferencing with his teammates from the cosmos, where he has been working to fix a spy satellite that a rich movie star uses to help refugees around the world. And as the finale drew to a close, Hardison reported to the team that his gig has been extended by two months, so he wants Parker, Sophie et al to plan an out-of-this-world heist, by “stealing” him from the satellite station he now calls home.
When the team appears to scoff at the suggestion and walks away, Hardison begs them to reconsider, explaining how, among other things, freeze-dried space meals taste like “baby powder.”
He then points out the pop culture fare he has missed out on, saying, “I done missed three DC movies. Three! I don’t know what’s going on. Who’s fighting who?!”
Hardison’s portrayer, Aldis Hodge, of course starred opposite Dwayne Johnson in the recent Black Adam movie from DC Studios — as Carter Hall aka Hawkman, who himself fights the title character on multiple occasions!
What did you think of Hardison’s DC shout-out, and Season 2 as a whole? (And do you think any possible Season 3 will actually involve The Outer Space Job?) Vote below!
Someone should have shouted out in the background “You didn’t miss much. In fact, don’t worry about it anymore. Reboot.”
Please don’t say that can’t wait I
Is there any word on the renewal of this? It’s a family favorite at our house.
Nope, but it took two months after finale for Season 2 to get ordered.
I want S3 really bad and a space rescue would be cool. I loved Aldis remark about missing 3 DC movies just like in the Fractured Job when Eliot was driving and singing Lone Wolf from his show Almost Paradise. The easter eggs are so much fun. I do hope Aldis will have more time if/when it is renewed.
I have a question about Elliot. Through this series and the original Leverage, they always had his character trying to come to terms with his past and the things he’s done. That I get and it works for that character but after his reconciliation with his dad, he should be in a better place so why are they writing him like he chooses to keep punishing himself saying he can’t get a second chance? It just seems like there all over the place this season with his character.
Season 1 of Leverage: Redemption focused on Harry’s redemption and season 2 was Sophie’s, so my guess is that season 3 will be Eliot’s. I think they spent season 2 setting that up. Parker doesn’t feel a need for redemption and Breanna is too young to need it, so it kinda makes sense if they’re planning arcs.
Because where the others are thieves Eliot has killed people. A picture and jewels you can given back. He feels there is no way he can undo the harm he’s done. and he can’t forgive himself. He is coming around slowly but it is a process to redemption as Hardison said. Eliot is a trained killer and I think alot goes back to his military. ptsd survivor’s guilt stuff that veterans can have.
I agree. I believe they are wanting to share a deeper insight on the characters past lives, before they worked together. To show why and how much they’ve changed. Giving us a more empathic relationship with the characters. The estranged step daughter, growing up in the system, ptsd and the military life, all things we’ve experienced. I so hope they make many more.
what’s taking so long for the show to come back omg bitting my n
Brilliant series of Leverage Redemption now finished and suppose have to wait until end 2023 for series 3 unless anyone knows better. This season got better and better as, it went along
I am really loving the show, first season was a little slow but it was okay second season came with the real magnificent punch I loved it. But I’m really hoping that you guys find a way to write Nate forward character back into the script also his arch nemesis you have to bring back Sterling. This is just something I was thinking about I hope you guys find a way
I truly enjoyed season 2 and looking forward to seeing the new season 3.
IDK What the heck is a ‘DC studio’? (Oh the silly repetitive ‘super hero’ nonsense from DC Comics?)
Looking forward to ‘lets steal a space craft’ along with some continuity with the original series by including some fan favorite villains and friends from then.
