Starz has stopped the presses for good: Minx has been cancelled.
The half-hour comedy, which chronicled the early days of an erotic magazine made for women, will not return for Season 3, TVLine has learned.
The series debuted on Max (then HBO Max) in March 2022 and was renewed soon after its Season 1 finale, only to be un-renewed in December of that year. Starz announced it had picked up the series in January 2023.
The Season 2 finale, which now will serve as the series finale, aired on Sept. 8 and ended with a few shocking revelations. Constance promoted Doug to head of a new company, Papadopolous Renetti Global, and hinted that Joyce would be an inconsequential force moving forward. Joyce realized that Constance was pretty much the worst and ran to the printer to publish an issue featuring Richie’s bathhouse shoot, which Constance had nixed. The move was tantamount to going to war against her own magazine, Joyce realized, but she did it anyway. And in the episode’s final moments, we learned that Doug and Constance were sleeping together. In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Paul Feig hinted that perhaps some characters who’d been name-checked during Season 2 — specifically, Doug’s ex-wife and Joyce and Shelly’s mother — might show up in a potential Season 3.
“I mean, in television, you never put something in unless it’s going to come back later or you’re going to have something for it,” Feig said at the time. “And we love dropping seeds.”
Well, that stinks!
Not gonna lie, was super excited for season two, but with each episode my interest waned, to the point that I dropped it, and honestly don’t know if I’m going to finish it now.
Disappointed. I enjoyed this one..but I’m not surprised.
Ahhh, that’s a shame, but not a surprise. The second season wasn’t as sharp as the first, but I still enjoyed it and the cast was great across the board. Does Starz have any original shows left at this point beyond all the Power spinoffs? It feels like they’ve cancelled everything in the last few weeks!
P-Valley
Season one was amazing. Season two was meh. Still would have liked a season three.
Well, I loved Season 1, took a free week of Starz to watch season 2, which was fine, but not as good. Didn’t care for the Doug vs. Joyce story line that seemed to be setting up for Season 3. I’ll miss the actors, mostly. Lennon Parham always should have a show. Jake Johnson has a movie coming out, he directs and stars, so hopefully he’s in good shape.
I’m sad for the people involved for the show because I enjoyed both seasons. I would’ve appreciated at least a final season to wrap up the story.
Not surprised. It was a fun watch but probably fairly expensive to shoot.
The show had it’s moments, but was hard to get fully vested with the switch from Max to Starz and now…nowhere. Thought season two was a bit uneven, but the talent level was high enough that another season could’ve gone places.
The bad news – good news is that Jake Johnson is once again weirdly off the air after doing great work (Stumptown, Minx). The good news is he’s open for another runl
I’m kicking myself that I didn’t find this show earlier and spread the word about it to everyone I know! I’m halfway through Season 2 now and just obsessed with how wonderful every part of it is- the actors, the music, the fashion/hair/makeup, the GREAT story not really told anywhere else, ugh! Hopefully it will gain a cult following over the next few years like Party Down also did with Starz and they’ll bring it back for a “what happens now”, I’m so sad!
