We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Hawaii Five-0, Schitt’s Creek, Modern Family and Chicago Fire!
1 | After Hawaii Five-0‘s Danny emerged from life-saving surgery, where were daughter Grace and ex-wife Rachel? Also, for someone unexpectedly reunited with The One Who Got Away, couldn’t McGarrett have smiled a bit more on the plane?
2 | The Blacklist fans, had you had just about enough of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” by the time last week’s episode concluded?
3 | On The Rookie, how did the off-kilter neighbor Nolan stumbled upon manage to hoist the KO’d cop up and into a hole in his ceiling, and bind his hands around the pipe inside? And was any preemptive groaning about the “crossover” with American Idol offset by how delightful cast member/Canadian Idol winner Melissa O’Neil’s “impromptu” performance for the judges was?
4 | Why is American Idol making us choose between Grace Leer and Lauren Mascitti — two of the strongest women in the competition — for the final spot in the Top 20? Why can’t we just bump out one of the other less-talented contestants…?
5 | As soon as Renée Elise Goldsberry showed up on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, were you yelling at the TV for Zoey to be in a scene with her, so she could sing? And since Zoey doesn’t understand sign language, shouldn’t the show have given some indication that she was familiar with Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” and thus understood what Abigail was communicating?
6 | As hard to understand as The Walking Dead’s Beta was in the Season 10 “finale,” are we to assume that he was trying to change the name of the Whisperers to the Mumblers? And what do we think of Princess — adorably energetic, or irritatingly over-the-top?
7 | Were you surprised to see Bob Hearts Abishola show Nicole Sullivan the door already? Did anyone think she was being groomed to stay on as a series regular/ongoing foil?
8 | Which CBS comedy featured worse green screen this week: The Neighborhood or Bob Hearts Abishola?
9 | Did the Manifest Season 2 finale’s very final scene — SPOILER ALERT! — remind you of the Lost episode in which the Flight 815 “wreckage” was found on the ocean floor?
10 | The Resident fans, how relieved were you upon realizing Tuesday’s finale wouldn’t actually show Derek getting drugs injected straight into his eyes?
11 | Has Empire completely abandoned the whole flash-forward mystery involving Lucious and Cookie’s back-to-back deaths? Meanwhile, TVLine reader Kevin asks: “What kind of facility does not check a patient that did not swallow their medication?”
12 | For the TV Doctors Thank Healthcare Heroes video that Olivia Wilde put together, what were the parameters for inclusion? Because there are former Grey’s Anatomy docs… but no current ones? And yet The Good Doctor‘s Freddie Highmore is there. (But no one from either Chicago Med or The Resident?) And given Jennifer Garner’s presence, was it not just TV doctors?
13 | Given what a mood-boarding control freak Schitt’s Creek’s David is, was it plausible that he wouldn’t have approved, or at least seen, Alexis’ dress before his wedding day? And was Mutt’s invitation lost in the mail or what?
14 | How did S.W.A.T.‘s Street know to fall through the ceiling at that exact moment?
15 | On Survivor, were you secretly hoping that there was an idol hidden on Jeff’s tribal council podium? How great of a moment would that have been!
16 | Chicago Fire fans, did you think Casey and Brett were maybe going to kiss when he was comforting her in his office? And was it a little weird that Brett and Stella were Chloe’s main bridesmaids instead of her own friends?
17 | Of the two Modern Family spinoff ideas that are said to have been bandied about, who would you be more interested in following: Mitch and Cam in Missouri, or parents-of-twins Haley and Dylan?
18 | Does Who Wants to Be a Millionaire simply not lend itself to celebrity contestants (and thus arguably easier questions)? And wasn’t the vibe downright eerie without a studio audience?
19 | Though Little Fires Everywhere‘s AnnaSophia Robb did compelling work as Young Elena, was she perhaps not the most believable choice for a mother of four children? And why did the show use Kerry Washington in Mia’s “Duo” photo, when a different actress was playing Mia in the episode when it was taken?
20 | Are The Masked Singer judges’ surprised faces reaching Taylor Swift-accepting-an-award levels of unbelievability?
21 | On The Challenge, did anyone else find Dee’s gameplay incredibly cringeworthy? Why would she give Jenny, a challenge beast, the easiest elimination of all? Does she actually think she could beat Jenny in the final?
22 | If Tiger King Joe Exotic’s studio burned down, allegedly taking all of the reality show footage with it, where did all of the deep-dive footage shown in the Netflix documentary come from?
23 | After watching The Good Fight‘s Season 4 premiere — which found Diane reimagining the opening scene from the series’ pilot — should we assume that the props department was unable to track down the circa-2017 green bowl used on the original set?
24 | Grey’s Anatomy fans, did you buy that Teddy’s cell phone would place a call when dropped?
25 | As happy as we are that How to Get Away With Murder‘s Gabriel knows who really killed Asher, isn’t it a bit far-fetched that he would spot the murderer’s earrings from such a distance, and while looking through a small gap between his apartment door and the floor?
26 | Would you rather Will & Grace had let Debra Messing play Lucy (and go to town) in all of the recreated vignettes, instead of rotating in Karen and Jack (as part of some flimsy premise)? And was Beverley Leslie unexpectedly spot-on as the Italian grape stomper?

Mitch and Cam
The characters are great. The setting? Not so much.
Mitch and Cam all the way
Yes!
25. I personally did see her earring shine for a split sec when he saw her on the stairs
16. I was waiting to something happening between Sylvie & Matt. Especially as the promo pictures featured a scene which was not in the episode. I wonder what plans they abonded because of the shortened season.
17. Mitch and Cam. Haley and Dylan as the main cast would drive me crazy. Mixed with the other cast they are fine. But as a main focus they would be too much. They don’t have much brain between the two of them.
17 – KITCH of course
I’d rather see Luke in college in an Undeclared revival.
How is it not obvious? 3 year flash forward to a tech startup run by the Brainiac middle sister, with Luke and Haley helping out (sales and marketing), and Haley’s househusband basically doing Haley’s dad. And even that isn’t great.
.
Mitch and Cam in Missouri? Basically a bunch of jokes about the “rubes in the sticks” and fish out of water jokes. That would be good for a few months worth of eps. After that? Eh. It would really depend on the supporting cast, and that would be hard to get correct.
.
Let’s face it. Frasier was a fluke. It was the rare spinoff of a long running (8+ years) show that itself went for a long time. And was itself really good quality wise.
.
I get that the actress who plays Haily, and the guys who play Kitch, want to continue the great roles. But I just don’t see it.
Your choice is Joey friends spin off, vs a bless this mess spin off.
I would probably just go the college show route, more to explore. Would need a great cast.
The problem with modern family and most long running sitcoms,in year 10 and 11, the main characters have become dumb down, chactures with 1 or 2 defining traights.
Modern Family has this So making any of the family groups the main focus with a new group is hard to imagine.
Frasier was the opposite he was intelligent and refined and they moved him from a group he was the superior intellectual to a group of the same, and it worked.
JOEY, was a dumbed down character with 2 or 3 traits that moved to a town with a family that was equally intelligent, didnt work….I liked it,most didnt
My preference would be a sitcom centered around Alex in Switzerland with Arvin. It actually matches your Frasier description. She’s the superior intellectual, let’s move her to group of her intellectual peers.
Mitch and Cam
1 Why is everyone convinced Alex O’Loughlin was against the return of Catherine? Because of a comment he made back in season 7? Why not ask him directly or pose the question to Peter Lenkov before making assumptions. And not for nothing I haven’t seen that smile on Steve’s face for a couple of seasons and it seemed genuine on Alex’s part.
16 I was more disappointed that Lily was not the maid of honor but I’ve been to a few weddings where the maid of honor is the partner of the best man or vice versa. And Brett is closer to Chloe than Stella so of course she would be in the wedding.
Steve did refer to Catherine as ‘the one that got away’, so time helped heal the hurt he felt, when she left. I hope Alex’s view would have changed too, after three years. Mine did. She was always the best woman for him.
More like he was leaving and it wasn’t worth the fight! I’ve lost count how many tries at wrapping up this dam relationship……..this was pure Lenkov determined to have his ending whether it made sense or not and to hell with his two stars that held everything together, kept fans coming back week after week and made the show the hit it was.
Mitch & Cam in a modern version of Green Acres.
THAT would be hysterical!
Doesn’t ABC already have a show like that with Lake Bell and Dax Sheppard?
The title escapes me at the moment.
Bless this Mess. It’s a good show. Cam’s character would ruin that show. He’s just awful. Whines endlessly.
4) I know, right? Manipulative promotion at its finest.
7) Yes. I was hoping for one or two more eps with Ms. Sullivan. She was quite fun in her role.
8) The Neighborhood 100%. At least the Chuck Lorre shows do make you think the characters were actually on location at first.
17) Mitch & Cam. Their chemistry and love are undeniable. And they’re not slow and/or dimwitted. And their kid is funny, talented can bypass Child Labor Laws for most of the season. lol
18) At this point, Millionaire is going that route. The first few questions feel like the show already passed the halfway mark. The producers need to fix that. (And yes the vibe is scarily different without the studio audience.)
20) YES! That’s thanks to the judges reaching the Ken-level of unrealistic guesses. The reveal of Lil Wayne was one of their worst moments by a country mile.
1) Grace and Rachel not being there is bad. What’s worse is the fact that they spent all of last season rebuilding Danny and Rachel’s relationship, only to shrug it off, this year…I love the show, but they were crap at dealing with romantic relationships.
We don’t know how many characters they tried to have return for the finale. Sometimes people are just unavailable. Why wasn’t ‘Mary’ in this episode, or this person in that episode. That always annoyed me. Most guest stars live on the Mainland. It’s unrealistic for them to move to Hawaii on speculation that the show might need them for one episode.
Rachel has been a recurring character since season 1. Even if she doesn’t appear on screen, it’s easy enough to slip in dialogue in her stead. Considering the fact that Danny doesn’t really have any significant romantic developments this season, why not just have him pay lip service to their rekindled relationship, instead of just bulldozing it. Makes no sense.
17) We’ve been watching the Mitch and Cam show for years, so I don’t know what more there is to add, beyond some green acres style antics. I suppose it could work if they find some good supporting characters. Mitch and Cam are a lot. It would be challenging to rest a whole series on them.
Haley and Dylan are just starting out, so I guess they’d get my vote. Honestly though, I think it’s better left alone.
#5-Zoey can hear the music, like tv viewers can. I don’t know sign language but I knew they were “singing” Fight Song based on the violin playing.
It’s been established that Zoey knows next to nothing about pop music. On many occasions she’s had to describe the words to Mo because she had no idea what the song was.
That being said, I thought the body language being used by the dancers (Shout out to Angel Theory’s cameo in the scene!) made it pretty obvious that Abigail was upset with Howie.
Honestly, I don’t know half the songs that are being sung either. I only know the song after they post it on YouTube! LOL. But you’re right, she didn’t have to know what was being sung, the choreography of the song was good enough to understand.
7. I don’t think we have seen the last of Nicole Sullivan on B♡A.
9. What didn’t Lost do first (and better) than Manifest?
1. I was wondering where Danny’s daughter was that whole episode too!
9. I had the exact same reaction to the Manifest finale.
17. definitely Mitch and Cam
18. I think doing so many celebrity editions is what killed the original Millionaire with Regis.
20. I agree the judges WAY overreact to the unmasking!
17. I assume a Mitch and Cam spinoff would be the runaway favorite.
In terms of Hawaii 5-O. i think Grace is going university on the mainland. So, the idea she could get on a plane immediately. She hasn’t really been part of the show for several years except for a cameo here and there. I didn’t expect her to be there… Now Rachel, yeah, she should have still been on the island. Or should have said a comment that she was there or notified.,. and we just didn’t see her. .
They kind of buried Rachel as a character this season though. From her and Danny trying to make it work all of a sudden he was broken up with her and hooking up with a woman he just met in a bathroom.
Even if they couldn’t work in the actress. They could have made a comment that they notified Rachel, who would notify Grace. So maybe the break with Rachel was a little bitter because as soon as he was out of the hospital, he went back to Steve’s place to recover.
13. Excellent points. Yes, Mutt Schitt should’ve been there with his girlfriend, Tennessee (or was it Tallahassee?) and his baby bro, Roland Jr. Annie Murphy was egregiously shortchanged in finale; her Alexis was such a knockout in that wedding dress we were lead to believe that Ted would show up at the ceremony and force a double wedding. Alexis and Ted should’ve taken off on a new adventure together. It was the one glaring misfire in an otherwise terrific series.
I really wanted Ted to show up.
REALLY wanted Ted to show up!!!!!
So many thoughts…
3. The Rookie – I know that this show ain’t The Wire, but the writers have seriously taken leave of their collective senses when it comes to writing for Nolan. I can only suspend my disbelief so much in order to let Nathan Fillion be the star of this ensemble show. I loved the cold open, and I can’t believe they waited this long to let her sing. Karaoke with Jackson does not count.
16. Chicago Fire – what is happening on this show? I have no issues with Casey & Brett together, but there seems to be so little affection between these two characters. Casey looked like a robot programmed to conform crying children. And, yes, it was so weird that Brett & Kidd were so prominent in the bridal party. Everyone looked great in their finery, though. That was nice to see.
26. Will & Grace – Leslie Jordan is a treasure and keeping me sane and entertained right now. He could have played whomever he’d wanted, and I would have loved it!
RE: 3. The Rookie – Agreed, and well said. Suspension of disbelief only extends so far before crossing the border into Absurdity. This show just keeps getting sillier. Much as I enjoy NF’s performances (he’s the reason I started watching the show in the first place), Nolan is becoming the least interesting/compelling character out of the bunch. Side note – what happened to poor Snowball? The cold open, though a rather jarring departure from the rest of the episode, was entertaining – Melissa O’Neil sure can belt out a tune!
I want to know what happened to Snowball too!
Of all of this year’s shows, the only sequel I’d watch is “Alexis in New York.” Are you listening Dan Levy? Yes, I do know she already has a new gig but it could be filmed in her hiatus.
I would watch that too!
Yaaaasss!!! I’d watch that!!! But with very frequent David visits because GOD he made me laugh with his interactions with Alexis!!! Rewind multiple times hysterical!!
17. Haley and family. I’ve had enough of Cam For the rest of my life.
THANK YOU!!!!! He turned into, by far, the most annoying character on the show. I’m not that interested in watching whiners and he whined over and over and over again. I can think of 4 spins of of Modern Family I’d rather see.
Anything…ANYTHING… that would have made those last scenes more believable for a series finale would have made my day! Both actors who play Danny’s kids now live on the mainland, so that would be difficult. I can understand Rachel being out of the picture, but SOMETHING to show they were involved in Danny’s recovery would have made the whole “I’m leaving on a jet plane, you got a phone, right? Call me sometime…bye, way more satisfactory. But for Steve to just leave behind “the person you care about most in the world” a week after Danny comes inches from death, makes little to no sense. It could be the EP didn’t expect that beach scene to be interpreted by viewers in that way, but sadly there’s no other way to see it. The series ended with Danny more alone than when it started.
As for the very final scene? Alex didn’t like very thrill about it, so why should I be? I can turn the replay off before it gets to that part.
You took the words out of my mouth! Alex’s acting choice in that last scene was very deliberate. The last 10 minutes were just a complete mess.
Agreed. I just don’t buy Steve leaving Danny when Danny was in such bad shape. Or ever. It would have been really sweet if Steve had taken Danny with him, but it just made it a super downer for Steve to leave Danny on the beach like that. Even Danny looked depressed. Steve leaving period wasn’t a great ending for the show and Catherine coming back after being in and out for so many seasons doesn’t feel like a happy ending for Steve, either. I was really liking the finale up until those last ten minutes, but Steve leaving just wasn’t a satisfying ending for the show.
The only spinoff I’d watch is Mitch and Cam and I’d actually love to see that.
The kids just aren’t that interesting but Mitch as the fish out of water would be funny and the pair of them are great together.
3. Love the Rookie. Best to just go with the flow, enjoy it, and not question the various “what-the?!?” moments.
17. Mitch and Cam
The absence of the audience was a little spooky. What Millionaire really needs, however, is to edit down the endless contestant trying to reason out their answer stuff. If it’s meant to build suspense, it doesn’t work. It feels more like dumbing down.
I’m not sure they can. They knew it was time to end the episode in the middle of Will Forte’s run so there much not be much editing done after the fact.
Definitely Mitch and Cam….call it “Queen Acres”
