We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Hawaii Five-0, Schitt’s Creek, Modern Family and Chicago Fire!
1 | After Hawaii Five-0‘s Danny emerged from life-saving surgery, where were daughter Grace and ex-wife Rachel? Also, for someone unexpectedly reunited with The One Who Got Away, couldn’t McGarrett have smiled a bit more on the plane?
2 | The Blacklist fans, had you had just about enough of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” by the time last week’s episode concluded?
3 | On The Rookie, how did the off-kilter neighbor Nolan stumbled upon manage to hoist the KO’d cop up and into a hole in his ceiling, and bind his hands around the pipe inside? And was any preemptive groaning about the “crossover” with American Idol offset by how delightful cast member/Canadian Idol winner Melissa O’Neil’s “impromptu” performance for the judges was?
4 | Why is American Idol making us choose between Grace Leer and Lauren Mascitti — two of the strongest women in the competition — for the final spot in the Top 20? Why can’t we just bump out one of the other less-talented contestants…?
5 | As soon as Renée Elise Goldsberry showed up on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, were you yelling at the TV for Zoey to be in a scene with her, so she could sing? And since Zoey doesn’t understand sign language, shouldn’t the show have given some indication that she was familiar with Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” and thus understood what Abigail was communicating?
6 | As hard to understand as The Walking Dead’s Beta was in the Season 10 “finale,” are we to assume that he was trying to change the name of the Whisperers to the Mumblers? And what do we think of Princess — adorably energetic, or irritatingly over-the-top?
7 | Were you surprised to see Bob Hearts Abishola show Nicole Sullivan the door already? Did anyone think she was being groomed to stay on as a series regular/ongoing foil?
8 | Which CBS comedy featured worse green screen this week: The Neighborhood or Bob Hearts Abishola?
9 | Did the Manifest Season 2 finale’s very final scene — SPOILER ALERT! — remind you of the Lost episode in which the Flight 815 “wreckage” was found on the ocean floor?
10 | The Resident fans, how relieved were you upon realizing Tuesday’s finale wouldn’t actually show Derek getting drugs injected straight into his eyes?
11 | Has Empire completely abandoned the whole flash-forward mystery involving Lucious and Cookie’s back-to-back deaths? Meanwhile, TVLine reader Kevin asks: “What kind of facility does not check a patient that did not swallow their medication?”
12 | For the TV Doctors Thank Healthcare Heroes video that Olivia Wilde put together, what were the parameters for inclusion? Because there are former Grey’s Anatomy docs… but no current ones? And yet The Good Doctor‘s Freddie Highmore is there. (But no one from either Chicago Med or The Resident?) And given Jennifer Garner’s presence, was it not just TV doctors?
13 | Given what a mood-boarding control freak Schitt’s Creek’s David is, was it plausible that he wouldn’t have approved, or at least seen, Alexis’ dress before his wedding day? And was Mutt’s invitation lost in the mail or what?
14 | How did S.W.A.T.‘s Street know to fall through the ceiling at that exact moment?
15 | On Survivor, were you secretly hoping that there was an idol hidden on Jeff’s tribal council podium? How great of a moment would that have been!
16 | Chicago Fire fans, did you think Casey and Brett were maybe going to kiss when he was comforting her in his office? And was it a little weird that Brett and Stella were Chloe’s main bridesmaids instead of her own friends?
17 | Of the two Modern Family spinoff ideas that are said to have been bandied about, who would you be more interested in following: Mitch and Cam in Missouri, or parents-of-twins Haley and Dylan?
18 | Does Who Wants to Be a Millionaire simply not lend itself to celebrity contestants (and thus arguably easier questions)? And wasn’t the vibe downright eerie without a studio audience?
19 | Though Little Fires Everywhere‘s AnnaSophia Robb did compelling work as Young Elena, was she perhaps not the most believable choice for a mother of four children? And why did the show use Kerry Washington in Mia’s “Duo” photo, when a different actress was playing Mia in the episode when it was taken?
20 | Are The Masked Singer judges’ surprised faces reaching Taylor Swift-accepting-an-award levels of unbelievability?
21 | On The Challenge, did anyone else find Dee’s gameplay incredibly cringeworthy? Why would she give Jenny, a challenge beast, the easiest elimination of all? Does she actually think she could beat Jenny in the final?
22 | If Tiger King Joe Exotic’s studio burned down, allegedly taking all of the reality show footage with it, where did all of the deep-dive footage shown in the Netflix documentary come from?
23 | After watching The Good Fight‘s Season 4 premiere — which found Diane reimagining the opening scene from the series’ pilot — should we assume that the props department was unable to track down the circa-2017 green bowl used on the original set?
24 | Grey’s Anatomy fans, did you buy that Teddy’s cell phone would place a call when dropped?
25 | As happy as we are that How to Get Away With Murder‘s Gabriel knows who really killed Asher, isn’t it a bit far-fetched that he would spot the murderer’s earrings from such a distance, and while looking through a small gap between his apartment door and the floor?
26 | Would you rather Will & Grace had let Debra Messing play Lucy (and go to town) in all of the recreated vignettes, instead of rotating in Karen and Jack (as part of some flimsy premise)? And was Beverley Leslie unexpectedly spot-on as the Italian grape stomper?

2: Nope! Play it, Sam!
.
3: I didn’t know that she was a singer, so I was surprised by how good she was.
.
9: I have always thought of Manifest as Lost 2.0
.
10: They didn’t? I wouldn’t know – I closed MY eyes!
3. The Rookie – as soon as we saw Nolan hanging from an unexplained hole in the ceiling I said to my husband…”this will be in the questions at the end of the week on TVLine”. And….what happened to Snowball??
17. Mitch & Cam. No contest. 😊
(Or was Alex O’Loughlin stealthily slipping in one final personal commentary on that pairing?)
Do you have a recent quote from Alex O’Loughlin specifically saying he doesn’t like the pairing and how it ended? (Other than the one from 4 yrs ago speaking on a specific episode) Its commentary like this will lose your credibility. You have always been rude to Michelle fans and I am glad you were able to get your last dig in. Good riddance to Hawaii Five 0 .
I think that sentence got deleted above but I recently came across that interview with Alex from a few years ago and wow, he did not hold back! But even in that interview he said he’d play whatever they wrote him to play. It’s hard to blame Alex for having an opinion on the character he played for so many years and for caring about who Steve ends up with. TV Line has always had great coverage of Hawaii 5-0 and usually did a story every time Catherine came back so I don’t think it’s fair to rag on them for their coverage. Everyone has an opinion on the ending but at the end of the day it is what it is, love it or hate it.
#16 I found it weird that Stella was the maid of honor. I mean I’ve been in weddings where female friends/family of the groom are bridesmaids and male friends/family of the bride are groomsmen. But maid of honor? Does Stella even know Chloe?
Modern Family Haley by a wide margin. That’s the best premise for another ten plus year run as well as other family member periodic appearances.
3. That cold open crossover was still rather ‘on the nose,’ and perhaps still deserving of some “preemptive groaning.” Nevertheless, it was entertaining, if not a bit disjointed in tonality from (some of) the rest of the episode.
5. Yes! Renée Elise Goldsberry is such a tremendous talent. I could not help but feel TPTB missed out on a great opportunity.
7. As a fan of Nicole Sullivan since her MADtv days, I was hoping she would stay aboard for at least a bit longer. Indeed, it seemed to me that was the plan. Perhaps that was just wishful thinking on my part.
23. At least there weren’t any Starbucks cups lurking in the background. To my mind, alt-universe episodes are extremely tricky to get right. The Good Fight’s premiere was one of the better attempts therein, props substitutions notwithstanding.
26. Absolutely! Leslie Jordan is a genuine hoot! I cannot think of any appearance of his that was not spot-on.
17. I’d rather see a work-place romance comedy following Alex and Arvin. We’ve seen Mitch & Cam for 11 years doing the parenting thing. A change a setting wouldn’t be enough to make it fresh. Haley and Dylan live in the same city as Claire & Phil and Jay & Gloria and Joe, how would they explain those five not being around?
1. It’s certainly not the reaction I’d be expecting from my supposed “true love”. Gotta love Alex’s acting choice here, after all he’s made his feeling on the subject well known.
Exactly. And IIRC he’s looking out the window at what he’s leaving behind instead of looking at her and to the future. He’s probably thinking about Danny.
17 – Mitch and Cam hands down!! I’d record series TODAY!! No matter how emotional the episode, Mitch made me laugh out lot somewhere at sometime every time!!
I meant Cam, sorry!! Love Mitch too though.
1. The Hawaii 5-0 ending didn’t work for me. Steve should have stayed with Danny or taken Danny with him. The whole finale was about how important Danny is to Steve and then Steve just leaves? Catherine hasn’t been a regular part of the show or Steve’s life for years so that part didn’t feel satisfying either. Nothing against Catherine, but the show has moved beyond her and her relationship with Steve. I loved the finale up until those last 10 minutes, but I get it. They thought they were getting another season without Alex when it was written. I just wish they’d changed it when they found out it was the end to really wrap up Steve and Danny, as well as the rest of the team. It did feel weird that Danny’s family wasn’t there.
6. I really love Princess. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel at first but by the end of the episode she’d totally won me over.
24. The cell phone recording was super dumb but it’s about time Owen found out. I don’t get why Teddy doesn’t choose Tom. They’re great together. She’s always come second for Owen. I suspect there will be plenty of fall out next season.
24. That was really dumb, cell phones don’t work that way? How would it manage to dial Owen in the first place when she dropped it on the floor if it has a touch screen? lol. I knew that was coming when they did that pan to it after she and Tom began to kiss, though. The episode was very good, one of the best this whole season, except for that storyline. I don’t understand why they’ve felt the need to do this to Teddy’s character. I loved she and Tom together before, but this scenario ruined it, she doesn’t deserve either of them. This is also the most I’ve ever sympathized with Owen. Some people say it’s karma for what he did to Cristina, but that’s awfully mean-spirited. He’s been trying his best to be an upstanding guy this season and he really does love Teddy, they have children, and now she’s wrecked their family? okay. Loved everything about Amelia/Link in the episode (the paternity drama was the worst, but at least they’ve finally figured it out? his “I’m madly in love with you” may have convinced me that they’re the sweetest relationship Grey’s has ever had). Richard’s storyline had me tearing up, and as a Deluca fan, I was proud of him for solving it and then he broke my heart a bit when he finally admitted that something was wrong. I’m sorry we won’t get to see the resolution of his storylines any time soon. Those looks he and Meredith were sharing! They really love each other, I want them to figure things out.

25. It’s still a bit disappointing that the killer is someone we don’t care about at all, but I guess it’s somewhat intriguing that she’s tied to the Castillos AND is FBI. There’s a decent-sized gap under the door and her upper piercing/earring was fairly distinctive, so it wasn’t as, say, far-fetched to me as Teddy’s accidental phone call. also, Cecily Tyson and Viola Davis are both incredible.

26. I actually loved that they switched the roles around! I wouldn’t have expected that at all, but it was funny and then quite touching when Will gave the reasons for it at the end. Debra would’ve killed it if she’d played Lucy all the way through, but the concept ended up working well. I grew up on I Love Lucy and have seen all those episodes so many times, and they recreated them wonderfully. I hope for viewers who are younger like me and not familiar with Lucy, this inspires them to check the original show out. It is a timeless gem.
No radiant reception from Steve McGarrett? He knows the first time Catherine Rollins gets a call about an insurgency, she will gird her loins for battle and take off guns blazing.
Steve has had a lifetime of loving women who abandon him. SNAFU.
🔥The entire end of H5O was a last call train wreck.
Who wastes time with the Lincoln story line when you have ten years of bad plots? An unprepared staff, that’s who.
❤️I admit, I only watched it to see Alex O’Loughlin. ❤️
I detested the amped up ‘bromance’ crap and wanted to take a bat to those ‘carguments’.
A show revolving around Haley and Dylan would not work because the characters are just too stupid to be the central focus. The characters are better used as the comic relief in an ensemble. It would be another Joey if they got their own show.
17 Mitch and Cam
Mitch and Cam
If there has to be a Modern Family Spin-Off, I’d rather have it be a whole new group of families. Have it tied to a minor character from MF. Maybe Adam Devine’s Andy or someone else along those lines.
#12: Where was Hugh Laurie (Dr. Gregory House)?
While Alex said he would play it however it was written if it came down to it – he also said that to him, because of what Catherine did to Steve, he would also view that as a “cry for help” in his personal opinion if Steve actually DID take her back. I hardly think that 3 years is going to change his opinion on the matter, when Lenkov did not change Catherine, other than making her THAT much more like Doris – and Alex even said, that he didn’t want to see Steve marry “his mother”.
The fact that Steve said she “was the one that got away”, in the episode was nothing more than pettiness on the part of Lenkov by making Alex eat his words from that interview – an interview that Lenkov certainly didn’t hide he was upset over at the time.
So yeah, Alex’s acting choices were pretty damn clear in that last scene. He never once appeared to play Steve as a man THRILLED to see the woman that hurt him over, and over again. The one that left him high and dry. The one he agreed with in CANON that he never should have gotten together with in the first place, who he was better off just being friends with. So while Lenkov was happy to retcon the hell out of H50 to slap those last few minutes that made NO SENSE whatsoever on the end of 10 years, Alex certainly didn’t appear to be happy about them.
Let the McRollins shipper rave about that awkward AF scene as being “endgame” – the rest of fandom know what’s what, and will happily be fixing what Lenkov tried to ruin out of petty spite.
Totally agree! Lenkov’s contrived ending just assassinated 10 years of Steve’s character development. Why would he trust Rollins after all the lies and being left more than once? She was a mini Doris. Ugh. And leaving Danny barely out of the hospital after nearly dying was wrong on every level. PTS was a flimsy excuse. Leave the 5-0 job sure, but not your hurting partner. Alex played it brilliantly considering the crap writing he was given.
26. Honestly, all the Will and Grace episode made me want to do is watch the real Lucy in those classic scenes. Time to pull out my DVD’s of the true classic.
Haley and Dylan
I like the Luke in college idea!
26. I didn’t mind Sean, Debra, and Megan each playing Lucy. I thought it was great how they each also played Ethel and Fred. I rather enjoyed how they didn’t fully try to BE Lucy they they were themselves as Lucy.
12 – well what was the criteria for selecting the article photo that had Hugh Laurie prominently front and center, yet he wasn’t even in the video?
24. Not in a million years would I buy that “accidental” thing they pulled off with Teddy. But then again, this is one of the countless examples of in-no-universe-would-that-be-realistic, but hey, it serves the plot. On TV they always seem to forget key things, like, I don’t know, the fact that every person hat I know, and I mean every person, has a password on their phone. But phones in almost every police procedural, at one time or another, are conveniently password-free.
26. Why is no one commenting on Lucy’s real life daughter’s guest appearance?
