British adventure drama Nautilus will finally be setting sail.

After being commissioned and scrapped by Disney+ in an effort to cut costs, the series has officially been picked up by AMC. The series will air (and stream on AMC+) sometime in 2024, the cabler announced Monday.

The 10-episode live-action series inspired by the Jules Verne novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea “tells the origin story of the iconic Captain Nemo, an Indian prince robbed of his birthright and family” who became “a prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces that have taken everything from him.”

Nautilus is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like Orphan Black: Echoes,” said Executive Vice President of Original Programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios Ben Davis in a statement. “We are looking forward to bringing it to AMC+ and AMC as a special television event next year.”

Added Executive Producer, Creator and Writer James Dormer: “I am hugely excited that the efforts of everyone involved in the making of the show will be seen on such a prestigious network.”

Nautilus stars Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery) as Captain Nemo in addition to Georgia Flood (Wentworth), Thierry Fremont (Das Boot) and Céline Menville (Emily in Paris). Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park), Anna Torv (Fringe) and Noah Taylor (Preacher) are set to make guest appearances.

Johanna Devereaux, Chris Loveall, Colleen Woodcock and Daisy Gilbert executive-produce, with Cameron Welsh serving as producer and Michael Matthews on board as lead director.

Along with Nautilus, Disney+ also scrapped plans to release a live-action series adaptation of the popular children’s fantasy books The Spiderwick Chronicles. As reported earlier this month, that eight-episode series has officially landed at The Roku Channel and will release in early 2024.
