NCIS: Los Angeles‘ Hetty turns to a familiar face for an extremely important favor, as seen in this first look at Catherine Bell’s encore as JAG‘s Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie.
Bell rejoins the CBS fold for NCIS: LA‘s Season 10 finale (airing Sunday, May 19 at 10/9c) when Hetty (Linda Hunt) reaches out for assistance in preventing an attack on US aircraft carriers.
The finale revolves around “a big, big case that involves several different agencies and countries — basically, we’re being drawn into a big big confrontation in the Middle East — so our guys are calling in favors left, right and center,” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill told TVLine as part of our May Sweeps Preview Q&A.
David James Elliot will reprise his own JAG role the week prior and also appear in the finale, as the NCIS team encounters Harmon Rabb Jr. “in the next stage of his naval career,” Gemmill said.
Surveying the reunion of stars from the series that spawned the original NCIS, Gemmill said, “Because their characters live in our world, and because we’re a spinoff of a spinoff of JAG, it seemed like a great reunion in some ways for us, as fans, and for the actors.”
Gemmill added that the idea of involving Harm and Mac in an NCIS crisis proved “more exciting than just going back with a case where they’re JAG officers still. Instead we took a whole different direction, and it makes it much more exciting because you get the best of the past plus what the future is for these people.”

This is exciting.
I agree this is sooooo exciting. I always watch JAG and all the NCIS programs. They are my favourite. Looking forward to it
I can’t wait. Thoroughly loved Jag. Am waiting patiently for the reboot. It can’t come fast enough.
I CANT WAIT!!! Jag is the first show I ever fangirl’d over, reading news and spoilers. Brings back memories.
That’s a lot of hype for 1 episode.
Wonder how much screen time those two get…which determines my investment of my time spent. Not a huge fan of these JAG spin offs.
It’s 2 episodes this season and at least 1 next season
NCIS has surpassed its parent show in ratings and length of time.. JAG was never a top 5 show in its day but it was a solid performer at the Tuesday 8pm slot… NCIS was on at 9 and then replaced JAG at 8pm where it still is… JAG ended up on Fridays where it died though it had a long run and has retained popularity in syndication in US and overseas. I noted in England it is shown along with other older US shows. This article makes it seem that both Harm and Mac are out of Jag now… We will see..
…and the point of these statistics means what exactly to fans of the original JAG series? Apples/oranges. The popularity, strength and endearance of these beloved actors has been synonymously peppered throughout NCIS. JAG characters have more lasting appeal, noteriety not to mention nostalgia in contrast to NCIS. JAG essentially made NCIS along with it’s introduction; and not the other way around; despite view numbers.
Additionalky; does NCIS have anything like the now ubiquitous “coin toss” gossip fodder?
Priceless.
…additionally..
series creator Donald P. Bellisario offered a different, somewhat bitter explanation, saying it was a matter of cold demographics. “Our 18- to 34-year-old audience is almost nonexistent,” he told the Dallas Morning News. “So unless they’re [advertisers] after the geriatric crowd, they’re not going to advertise on ‘JAG.’ That’s absolutely what killed it.”
The surprising candor of his response gives it some credibility, but it doesn’t address the fact that Elliott did, in fact, decide to leave the show. Theoretically, “JAG” could have gone on without him, but it had already been on the air 10 years at that point, so that would have been a tough sell.
It was a great run. Hearts grew fonder after it left the air. Very few shows do that tgese days.
Technically JAG was cancelled & brought back by CBS. Much of tv depends on time & place. As for giving these eps a try…I would because there’s a lot more talk to bringing JAG back. If these go well-you could be part of that.
Never said NCIS was horrible persay. Simply a matter of character dynamics preferences.
Harm/Mac, Bud/Harriet, Chegwidden, Webb; along with countless others. Truly multidimensional, fluidity and has set the the stage for later shows like NCIS and others to follow. Trailblazer.
So excited for these episodes!
I’m looking forward to watching this episode! I enjoyed JAG, and am excited about the rumors of a possible reboot. I sure hope Harm and Mac are still together though. Their will they or won’t they story line was the longest, most drawn out and most frustrating I’ve ever seen. If they go anywhere near back to that, I’m way out on any future shows.
Get rid of Torres and Jack on NCIS.
Her role is boring and out of context for show. Not needed.
Torres is obnoxious as hell. Can’t stand him.FF thru scenes with him. Just don’t like him.
And this has what to do with NCIS:LA? This article isn’t even about NCIS–or did you not read the article?? Wow…..
NCIS officers are on Navy Ships so what’s your problem.
Then don’t watch NCIS.
And there’s plenty of people who do like those two, but can’t stand others. There’s millions of people watching, can’t please everyone.
Two Things, First NO UNIFORM!!!! Second, Caption says Sarah “Mac” Mackenzie no mention of Lt. Col. which makes me thing Harm won the bet since he is still in the Navy or at least one can hope.
its so good to see Hetty again its been a long season without her !
I can not wait for these episodes!! i have been waiting 14 years to find out if Harm and Mac are really together. i hope they are married and happy!
Reboot good, guests rolls okay, better to
Have old cast together again even if you
Weed them in slowly, but not too long,
before the reboot JAG. Git rid of the Code
Total joke and no cohesiveness, originally at least JAG had that from beginning. Wearing
Of uniforms correctly and realistic missions
Away and near to real military.
Please explain. What is code total joke? Lack of cohesiveness etc.
The Code is a new legal military drama. Above commenter doesn’t seem to be a fan.
Was wondering if Harm and Mac would be crossing paths with the retired Admiral AJ Chedwick. Would be interesting…..can’t wait to see it.
Chegwidden, not Chedwick.
LOVE Jag and Harm and Mac!! Having them on NCIS LA is awesome!!!! Would love to see them on all 3 NCIS shows. How about reoccurring roles on all 3 shows? That would be amazing. The Admiral and Bud have shown up, right?
CBS has created The Code. Jag- with the Marines in some of the Navy roles. Harm and Mac would fit right in there.
I love both shows. I really like Mac amd harm. I hope they get to be more than friends.
Finally it’s about time we get harm and Mac back , this jag reunion has been a long time coming and we can’t wait! Hopefully this gets cbs attention and they bring them back for more!!! Best duo on tv!!!
cant wait cant wait cant wait…..have I said I CANT wait!!!!!
sooooo excited!!!
Seriously-for all those who were saying Bell looked terrible in photos they saw-WTH were you looking at? She looks great. Those people must have been looking at Enquirer crap photos.
I don’t what to see them go alway NCIS AL
Are Mac and Harm still married
Can hardly wait to see
Love, love, love! One of the few shows I would watch reruns of the original series and hoping for a spin off in the future.
I can’t wait to see Catherine and James reprise their roles and to find out if they ever married, and if so are they still Happily married?
Counting the days until Macs return – have followed Catherine Bell thru 9 seasons of JAG, 7 seasons of Army Wives and 5 of Good Witch – she is truly a great actress –
I don’t know if this is a good idea. I think it will disappoint allot of the old fans, If it ends up that Mac and Harm never got married. Which seems to appear to bethel case.
