Fans of CBS‘ well-watched NCIS franchise now have at least two returning series to count on during the 2024-25 TV season, with the announcement that the mothership has been renewed for Season 22.
NCIS‘ renewal comes three weeks after the franchise’s first International offshoot, the Australia-based NCIS: Sydney, was renewed for Season 2. A decision has not yet been announced regarding NCIS: Hawai’i, which is more than halfway through airing its third season.
The NCIS pick-up also arrives ahead of the franchise airing its 1,000th total episode, on Monday, April 15 at 9/8c, and very much on the heels of CBS’ renewing all three of its FBI programs.
Season-to-date, NCIS is averaging 9.71 million total viewers (with Live+7 playback), veritably matching its Season 19 audience. It also currently stands as TV’s second-most watched entertainment program, trailing only CBS’ own Tracker (which enjoyed an NFL-boosted kickoff).
“The Neighborhood” — which was also renewed on Tuesday afternoon — “and NCIS are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” CBS Entertainment chief Amy Reisenbach said in a statement. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”
NCIS has been a Top 20 series (in total audience) for 18 of its 20 full seasons, and has been television’s most-watched broadcast drama for the last five complete TV seasons (and 13 of the last 14).
Regardless of NCIS: Hawai’i‘s ultimate fate, the NCIS franchise is poised to only get bigger, with not one but two new spinoffs ordered to series: NCIS: Origins aka the Young Gibbs prequel series (starring Austin Stowell), and a yet-to-be-titled offshoot following Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David (played by NCIS vets Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo) on the run in Europe.

No shade on NCIS:Sydney but I just don’t see them being renewed before NCIS:Hawaii gets the nod.
Just had to say that.
…and yet they were.
Please, please do not take NCIS away from us. As much as I enjoy all the NCIS shows… I adore NCIS Hawaii. And, I cannot be alone.
With aloha,
Rachel
I can not contain my excitement. Can’t you see. Of course not because your too busy shipping the same feeling of contentment. N-C-I-S. What does that spell. The best team show on CBS. The best in all the world. It rivals some of my past favorites including Bones and CSI: Miami plus the little ones like Burn Notice and Silk Stockings. Don’t ever end. I’ll always be begging don’t ever end my favorite show. NCIS Y’all!
Hawaii is my no.1 cool j belongs on the FBI , lachey has to stop posing , el bustami is the spark plug, Ernie &a the rest work well when she is involved . The show is a keeper ! Do’ not mess it up ! Expand the FBI angle once in a while !
I sure hope they reconsider renewing NCIS Hawaii! It’s a fantastic series and it’ll be a shame if they do.
Fans become disillusioned when a tv popular tv series is canceled
I know NCIS Hawaii has had a really good following from the start. It is far better than NCIS AUSTRALIA .
Yes it takes place in Hawaii on Oahu. Filming doesn’t cost as much as they are trying to tell us. A bit more yes. But the viewers that watch it are true followers. More than enough to justify keeping the show. This last season has seen an uptick in more action with better stories. As far as I’ve seen in TV GUIDE they were holding their own.
A lot better program than a lot of others CBS has on the air, by far.
I believe there are a whole lot of viewers that agree with me.
I am so happy to say that I thought the season finale of NCIS was the series finale and happy to know it is not. Keep up the good work!
Seriously NCIS Hawaii even mentioned to maybe not be renewed???? So many lousy shows on and they consider ending this one. Think again executives, not sure who you listen to but find some other show to remove from the line up!!!!
