OK, now it is.
ABC has cancelled the comedy Not Dead Yet after just two seasons, TVLine has learned.
Not Dead Yet has been averaging 2.7 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), down 21% and 40% from its freshman run. Among the three sitcoms that ABC has aired this TV season, it ranks last in both measures.
The series starred Jane the Virgin vet Gina Rodriguez as Nell, a journalist on the obituary beat who can communicate with the ghosts of those she is assigned to write up. The cast also included Hannah Simone (New Girl) as Nell’s friend/coworker, Sam; Joshua Banday (Upload) as Nell’s editor, Dennis; Lauren Ash (Superstore) as Nell’s newspaper boss, Lexi; Rick Glassman (As We See It) as Nell’s roommate, Edward; and Angela Gibbs (On My Block) as Cricket, a widow with whom Nell bonds after Cricket’s dead husband appears to her. Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond) joined the series-regular ensemble in the second season as Lexi’s dad/newspaper owner Duncan.
The Season 2 finale, which now serves as the series ender, aired April 24. In the episode, Garrett’s character appeared to Nell as a ghost while undergoing surgery. When he came to, Duncan at first didn’t seem to remember anything about his experience on the spiritual plane… until he recalled the feeling of riding in Nell’s Prius as a ghost.
“It sets up a very cool, exciting trajectory for Nell [about] what is life going to be like for Nell moving forward now that somebody, especially this somebody, knows her secret, something she’s kept so super close to the chest,” star and executive producer Rodriguez told TVLine.

Thought it found its rhythm this season. Bringing in Brad G. Was a touch of brilliance. R.I.P.
Noooo! It was so good
That’s really unfortunate, the show was finding a nice groove with the cast and it just sets itself up for some amazing guest stars. This bums me out.
I am not surprised but I am disappointed. My daughter and I loved the show, especially the roommate. Good luck to the cast and crew.
Aww. Sad news. I love this ensemble!
Awful news! This show is really funny and I like the characters. Two seasons is not enough.
UGH, what? This show was so underrated and deserved so much more attention. The ensemble cast was really good. So disappointing.
Viewers really missed out on a gem with this show. It was far, far better and much more funnier than the very overrated Abbott Elementary and The Conners.
Again… I am so bummed. I love Not Dead Yet. They are probably going to replace it something ridiculous that I won’t watch.
I will miss this show.
Gina Rodriguez is such a fun actress to watch so I hope she gets another show quickly,
Cancelled just when NDY was hitting its stride. Typical of ABC!
Well, if ABC wants me to watch their network even less than I already do, then fine. Netflix will be more than happy to get more of my attention.
I really enjoyed S1. But lost interest during S2. I remember reading that the series was retooled and cast members were cut. But they retooled the show again for S2. S1 worked because it was different. Too bad I will never get to see Nell and Edward hook up.
BOO! 😒 Sad news…disappointed. Really liked this one.
It was a ‘good’ show not great, do I feel other shows deserved the ax more yes, do i get why ghosts is such a hit and this wasn’t more popular? nope! but regardless I’m not shocked at the cancellation.
Too bad! I liked the show and thought it was very entertaining!
Sad to hear it. I find Gina Rodriguez to be completely charming in every role she takes on. Will check out her next project as soon as it appears. O n a side note the article made me realize that Lexi was on Superstore, DUH. Don’t know how I missed that!
They hit their stride this season; it was funnier than Abbott most weeks. Hate to see it go.
not dead yet is actually dead now
Another bummer…so many of the shows I watch are getting canceled this year. I really enjoyed this show =(
Very very disappointed…was a lovely show with a great cast of characters and always ended with a nice moral…it should have been given time to grow each person’s characters more.
I watched the first couple episodes and it kind of felt like ABC trying to have their own CBC’s Ghosts.
Damn. I really liked this one.
I am not surprised. I like the show but it didn’t really have anywhere to go.
I loved this show. Why are shows that are funny & yet have emotional moments get cancelled? I also loved So Help Me Todd, but CBS taxed that too. What I can’t believe is the shows they keep instead of the good ones. Could it political.
