Paramount+ is about to cost you even more.
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 20, Paramount is raising the price of the ad-free Paramount+ With Showtime plan by $1, to $12.99/month, TVLine has confirmed. Existing Paramount+ With Showtime subscribers will see the new price go into effect with their next billing date, on or after Sept. 20.
Also as of Aug. 20, new subscribers to the Paramount+ Essential plan (with ads) will pay $7.99/month, which amounts to a $2 increase. Existing monthly subscribers will continue to pay $5.99/month.
Additionally, existing subscribers with the legacy Paramount+ Limited Commercial plan will see their rates increase by $1, to $7.99/month.
Pricing on Paramount+’s annual subscription plans — Paramount+ With Showtime ($119.99/year) and Paramount+ Essential ($59.99/year) — will remain unchanged.
Paramount+’s price hikes follow similar, recently announced rate increases at Max (which saw its ad-free plan go from $15.99 to $16.99/month) and Peacock (which will soon see its ad-free plan go from $11.99 to $13.99/month).
Good think I have the annual plan.
Same, although only until November.
Paramount’s reception is so awful. Unless they clean up their act I’ll probably go back to watching network with commercials. I am so very tired of it stopping, not syncing properly. It’s already overpriced.
So weird, I’ve heard other ppl say they have that not syncing issue but mine’s fine. I stream it on the TV and on my tablet when I’m washing dishes, cooking, etc.. It’s totally fine. I’ve had problems with other services (D+ losing cc abt ten mins in, Netflix used to crash ten times an hour, total misery) but P+ has always been okay
I haven’t had any issues with the app on my tv, pc or tablet. What I did notice was it and a few other streaming apps did not play nicely with my Amazon Fire Stick. There seemed to be a compatibility issue as the Spectrum app also wouldn’t work on the Fire stick. Once I switched to a Roku device, I had no issues with any app.
I haven’t ever noticed any problems.
Who isn’t tired of commercials affecting actual TV episode/film viewing. It is doing way better than in the past and I’m fine for now with it but price wise. I might have picks some streaming apps over others.
So by not increasing the prices on the annual plans they are trying to entice people to pay for a full year instead of just month to month. I’m thinking sooner or later month to month plans will either be very expensive or non-existent. Everyone I know waits until the shows they like are finished, by one month to watch them all, then cancel. One way or another they will find a way to stop that. Just my opinion, of course.
I prefer the annual plans so i dont have to pay the bills every month.
I’d prefer the annual plan if they had enough content for me to watch but Paramount just doesn’t. For that reason I will get it for a month and watch what I need to and then cancel. Peacock I buy annually because I watch that one all the time.
Well all the Star Trek shows had been enough content for me, but they are starting to slow down on those…. though i do like watching the big brother live feeds in the summer.
I love annual since I watch lots of CBS stuff and enjoy the P+ only stuff like Trek shows , Seal Team, and Evil..
It’s also just in time for football season – I imagine their monthly subscriptions go up at that time and drop after the regular season and then again after the Super Bowl.
Ain’t nothing coming back down unless you get a Black Friday or some other promo deal.
Add more new Star Trek show and I’ll be find with paying the extra.
There’s a free subscription with Paramount that comes with a Walmart Plus subscription.
Yep. That’s how I have it. Granted, it’s the ad version, but it is still a good deal.
I didn’t think it was LEGAL for them to double charge their customers?! My family has been subscribed to Showtime on cable since it launched; and I have been streaming it since we’ve been able. All other channels know to only make customers pay ONCE — cable OR streaming… But Showtime/Paramount+ is making their customers pay for Showtime on cable AND streaming. And when they offer content one way or the other it’s absolutely crazy. Like they don’t have enough money already!
I have the same situation. The cable company has no good explanation, of course. I asked to drop Showtime, so I could subscribe to Paramount+Showtime on streaming. I was told Showtime was part of my current cable package & couldn’t be dropped individually – I’d have to cancel the whole package & start another one. Of course, the new package would be more expensive (without Showtime) than the one I currently have. My current package no longer exists as an option for new subscribers. I noted that I’m not a new subscriber but was told that once I cancelled my package, I would be considered a new subscriber! So basically I’m stuck, at least until Evil finishes.
LOVE Evil. One of the best shows ever.
Two diffetent companys. Your cable company is not connected to your streaming.
It’ll be just like Spectrum soon.
Paramount plus has a lock on some very very popular series Yellowstone 1893 1923. Mayor of Kingston Joe C Ruls Lioness. etc. Whole I enhoy these I will cut them all off it it becomes ore expensive than I think it is worth
New Yellowstone streams next day on peacock not paramount+
Once Evil and Seal Team end so will my subscription.
So glad I can get by without these pikers! :)
These price increases are freezing senior citizens out of being able to watch alternative programming. There should be a way to allow discounts to seniors whose only source of entertainment is television.
They still have Tubi, FreeVee, Pluto, Ruko, among others that are free. IMO, Tubi alone has more variety than Paramount+ and Peacock combined.
ETA: Xumo Play is another one, along with Sling that has some free content. There are a few others
Wonderful! They are increasing the price, and I can’t watch Paramount+ without it constantly freezing up on me. Why don’t they concentrate on fixing that first?
That’s okay. They have great original programming such as… um… well… hmmm…. never mind.
How about making the app not buggy and laggy before making price changes?
Wow. The big wigs at Paramount not getting paid enough or do they need bigger bonuses ?!
I pay for add free Paramount Plus however every time I try to tune into a new episode they show one of their ads for one of their shows . Not only that but they also put in an ad for their shows in the middle of the show I’m watching. What’s the point of paying extra for no ads when they plague you with all their show ads! It’s time to consider getting out of this app.
Exactly. They always show ads for their own shows, even when I pay for ad-free. And I can’t skip them. Gross.
Yup. We switched to ads months ago because of this. Usually, it isn’t just one ad, but several, even with “ad free” service. And, honestly, I could care less about the shows they advertise.
So let me get this straight. The streamer that is actively trying to be sold – that has drastically reduced content output – is expecting subscribers to fork out more, for less? Ffs
Agree, it’s absurd. They have so little new content. One new season of things every few years. And they don’t give a crap. I like some cbs shows and I like Evil, but I hate using P+. They even have the nerve to show unskippable ads despite charging me extra for “ad free”.
It’s because of this that I’m okay with the ad tiers. Yes, ads suck. But back in the old days, we’d use the commercials for bathroom breaks or kitchen visits. Now I use the ads for the same thing (or to check my phone if I get an alert), while also being able to pause the program at any time needed between ads. Worth it for me for cheaper rates, to be honest.
Sure but it should be free if we have to watch ads and can’t skip them. We paid for cable but we could record the shows and skip the commercials!
I agree that the ad tiers should be much much cheaper, especially since (but not just because) you can’t fast-forward through the ads. But free?!? You technically have to pay for every cable channel that’s not a major network, and they have plenty of commercials. And you want streamers to be free if they do the same!?? Do you also get upset at restaurants when you have to chew your own food?
.
We live in a world where you have virtually anything you wish to watch at any time anywhere at the press of a button, but the nerve of these studios and networks to charge anyone at all to provide it! You could have something, anything, that’s 99.999% perfect in every possible way, and some folks will focus on that 0.001% inconvenience and never stop complaining. Dealing with ads while watching THE BOYS or HOUSE OF THE DRAGON or STRANGER THINGS is the very very very least of anytone’s critical issues right now, and I say that as someone who barely tolerates them. The level of gross entitlement from some people these days is frankly staggering.
And yet people still don’t think Regulating Streaming is a good idea….
I’ve had problems with P+ for months, it keeps freezing or stopping. And you can’t fast forward so you have to watch things over until you complete the episode! I watch the Star Treks and Evil.
No Halo season 3, no renewal!
We have a terrestrial antenna on top of our house. We get 310+ FREE broadcast channels. Most channel has subchannels which creates an amazing choice of programming. Because of where we live in L.A. County, we also get channels from other areas. Example: We receive 15 PBS HD channels. We cancelled our DTV and refuse to stream. Oh, I work for Hulu/Disney+ and have free service — we never watch it. Broadcast is HD and absolutely beautiful. Streaming is horrible — I should know. 😂
Glad I was able to just sign up for Peacock for $1.99 a month with their 1st Responder discount. Screw paying them full price
Too expensive already. If I have all the “apps/networks,” it would be as much as cable or satellite was before streaming. It isn’t worth it.
I like Paramount, I like Netflix, I love Britbox. But they are getting to the breaking point. Paramount or Netflix, one will need to be sacrificed. I’m saving for retirement, so I won’t be able to afford one or both next year. Too bad.
