Thank the gods: Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be back for more wondrous adventures. The hit live-action Disney+ series has been renewed for Season 2, TVLine has learned.
“We’re thrilled to embark on an exciting new quest and a Season 2 with Rick Riordan, our fantastic partners at 20th Television, and the exceptional ensemble of cast and creative talent that bring this story to life,” Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said in a statement.
Rick Riordon, who wrote the beloved books and serves as an executive producer on the show, added, “I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to Disney+! Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!”
Upon its debut, Percy Jackson hit the weekly Nielsen streaming ranking at No. 4, with 572 million minutes viewed across two episodes that spanned just 80 minutes, and with about a third of its total coming from viewers 18-34. In the following Nielsen measurement period, it rose to No. 3 on the chart, and at last tally had slipped to No. 6.
Adapted from Riordan’s bestselling book series, the show tells the fantastical story of Percy Jackson (played by The Adam Project’s Walker Scobell), a 12-year-old modern demigod who’s just coming to terms with his divine powers when he is tasked with finding the missing lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth (played by Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries), Percy embarked on a cross-country quest to retrieve it and prevent war from breaking out within his family.
The star-studded Season 1 guest cast included Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Glynn Turman as Chiron, Toby Stephens as Poseidon, Lance Reddick as Zeus, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, Megan Mullally as Alecto aka Mrs. Dodds, Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus aka Mr. D, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Medusa, Olivea Morton as Nancy Bobofit, Suzanne Cryer as Echidna, Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano, Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus and Jay Duplass as Hades.
Are you relieved that Percy Jackson has been renewed? What do you hope to see in Season 2?
So excited! Been waiting for renewal news since the finale. I love this show and can’t wait for S2.
I enjoyed it, but it lacked much of the humor that made the books special. I suppose that’s a danger in any adaptation. The joy of Percy for so many was the humor, and, save for some slapstick moments (leaving the casino), this lacked the humor and therefore also lacked the heart.
As someone who grew up on these books, I’m so freaking excited!!!!!!
Looking forward to season 2. I just hope the episodes are longer like an hour not 30 minutes, everything felt so short.
Great show. cant wan’t to see more Annabeth
Love love love the show ! It is fantastic! I look forward to season 2!
They’d better start shooting quickly, or figure out a way to start writing time jumps into the plot – those young kids aren’t going to stay young and kid-like for much longer…
Given that the sixth book deals with Percy getting ready for college I’m not too worried about that.
Yes! I’m so happy, I started to like it more and more with each episode.
I really like that it’s doing its own thing, I like not knowing what will happen yet. And very thankful that they renewed so quick
I do not envy having to recast Lance’s role.
Cast a Greek Actor or Actor with Greek Ancestry to play the King of the Olympian Gods and Goddesses to properly be representative of the true Source Material that Rick Riordan based his books on, the Polytheistic Ancient Mythic Religious Figures of Greek History.
what are you on about rick is behind this show he is doing the casting
Their human form is not their true form, it is purely a visual presentation the gods choose to appear to human, and completely changeable. Your obsession with how a person looks show your limited imagination for a fantasy story is almost ironic.
That is excellent news. I enjoyed it and look forward to another season.
Me too. In season two, I’m hoping that Tiresias shows up and maybe merge his/her story with Ares that gives the God of war more story/exposing his untold personal secrets and leaving hints that these two have personal history with each other, in other words maybe they secretly dated in the past and the gods torn them apart( on the show). I think they may change Ares’s story from the books a little bit and change his love interest from Aphrodite to Tiresias for the show! I could be wrong but I’ll wait to find out when season two comes out! What do you guys think?!
Bring back Adam Copeland full time and I want to see more titans screens time
Bring Adam Copeland back as Ares and maybe bring Matt Boomer in as the blind seer Tiresias in season two!
I have been waiting for a long time now
Great news! My nephew and I watch this show every week when it drops. It’s great to have a show we can watch together and both enjoy. It’s exactly what I expect from Disney.
Great news
