Ratched Not Returning to Netflix for Season 2, Sarah Paulson Says — Watch
Ratched, the prequel series about the life of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched (played by Sarah Paulson) set prior to the events of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, will not be returning to Netflix for a Season 2.
In a video posted to a fan account on X (watch below), Paulson is asked if there will be a Ratched Season 2, to which she simply responds: “No.”
TVLine has reached out to Netflix for comment.
Ratched‘s first season dropped on Sept. 18, 2020 and no official word has ever been given on the future of the series, which is produced by Ryan Murphy. Paulson reportedly told our sister site Variety in the summer of 2022 that she didn’t know if a second season was in the works or not.
Per the series’ official synopsis, Ratched begins in 1947 as “Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.”
The infamous character was famously portrayed by Louise Fletcher in the 1975 big-screen adaptation of Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The role earned Fletcher an Academy Award.
In addition to Paulson, the TV series also starred Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs, Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood, Jon Jon Briones as Dr. Richard Hanover, Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson, Charlie Carver as Huck, Alice Englert as Dolly, Amanda Plummer as Louise, Corey Stoll as Charles Wainwright, Sophie Okonedo as Charlotte Wells, Brandon Flynn as Henry Osgood and Vincent D’Onofrio as Gov. George Wilburn.
I really loved her in this role, sucks Netflix never started production on season 2
Feel like this is her choice after some of the vague things shes said about horror story

I started watching but couldn’t finish it. I’ve watched plenty of shows like Breaking Bad and the Sopranos where the main character was an anti-hero, but this one was just too much for me. Couldn’t find any pleasure in the horrificness of the main character
Ryan Murphy just has so many shows going and his production deals basically allow him to throw anything at the wall and see what sticks, or what he wants to stick, then he just moves on an throws something else at the wall.
I wasn’t expecting a season 2 so the fact that there needed to be confirmation about that is surprising to me.
