David Boreanaz Addresses Uncertainty Surrounding SEAL Team Season 5, Urges CBS: ‘Renew This Show!’
David Boreanaz isn’t letting SEAL Team go down without a fight.
In the wake of Thursday’s mini-renewalpalooza at CBS, which saw the network ordering additional seasons of procedurals NCIS, S.W.A.T., Bull, Magnum P.I. and Blue Bloods — Boreanaz took to social media on Friday to address his series’ bubble status.
“Let’s go, CBS — let’s renew this show,” he tweeted to his 700K followers. (Boreanaz also retweeted a number of pleas from fans, including one that took CBS to task for the “bad optics” of renewing “a bunch of shows” and leaving “the remaining hanging.”)
Season to date, SEAL Team is averaging north of 4 million weekly viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (in Live+Same Day numbers) — down 17 and 24 percent from its Season 3 numbers. Among the 14 original dramas CBS has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 10 in the demo (besting All Rise, S.W.A.T., Bull and Clarice) and 12th in total audience (only outdrawing Clarice and S.W.A.T.).
SEAL Team‘s fourth season has also seen the departures of two series regulars, Jessica Pare and Judd Lormand, presumably as cost-cutting measures.
SEAL Team is not alone on the CBS bubble. All Rise, B Positive, Clarice, NCIS: Los Angeles The Unicorn and United States of Al are also awaiting word on a pickup.

My husband and o really enjoy Seal Team. It’s the most realistic series we’ve seen about military life. Please don’t cancel this series. There is nothing else like it.
This show needs to be renewed stat! It’s not just about the actors but the crew made up of veterans behind the scenes and their stories. Be better CBS. Our veterans it what bridges the divide in America today. Do your part and renew for season 5.

Curious about that too. I’ve wondered how celebrities On Instagram sometimes limit their reply comments to only certain people which usually means other celebrities. I’m not very tech savvy so not sure how they do that.
It was likely due to his recent off-screen drama and the resulting comments and replies he was receiving. He also made his Instagram account private for a while and when it went public again, he had deleted everything and no longer allows comments on his new posts.
What recent off-screen drama? What did he do?
It took him quite some time before commenting on the appalling treatment of his female costars on Buffy and Angel. He only spoke about it after a serious backlash from fans.
Ah. I thought he got accused of sexual assault again. I’m not surprised it took him so long to comment on the Whedon debacle. Was it during Bones it came out that Boreanaz cheated on his wife claiming he was addicted to sex?
While it’s still unusual I’ve seen it happen more and more–not only actors/actresses but also authors,writers of shows & movies,directors,etc…while most people try not to be disrespectful when commenting directly on a celebrity/well-known person’s SM it is truly appalling and in bad taste what some have posted directly on the person’s SM. Some even have shut down their accounts because of it.
All this complaining and whining is what has led to the shows unsure future.
Seal Team is excellent. I think part of this low audience is being on the night the Chicago series on NBC is on for 3 hours.

Seal Team is a great show. Good writing. Actors are great. It is a mistake to put the low viewers on the show. Wrong conclusion.

He has the best potential love interest in Mandy the only woman who has ever fully understood him but I guess Jess and Judd were too expensive to keep, pathetic and shame on CBS

I think it deserves to be renewed for sure and it the fans also deserve to have Judd Lormand and Jessica Pare back both great characters. Who have added so much to the show. Get it together CBS
Hope this shows gets renewed but more importantly if it does, they get back to what they did in season 1 especially the back half of that one with the deployment overseas, leaving the focus on the team and their interactions and inner workings . This year was so much about David’s character – I’m in, I’m out, I’m in, I’m out, I’m in but now I’m in court so I may be out. But then there’s Clay being out but now back in, Sonny being out but back in. And then take it another lvele with Sonny and Davis and their on again off again relationship which mimics the above.
Just focus on the dang missions. There’s enough drama there. I still like the show, but less than I did unless they focus back on the team and their missions. When it was focused on the team missions with personal things adding to that it was better than personal lives with sporadic team missions.

This! I’d love both a renewal and a return to the basics (so to speak). The relationship drama is too much in front and we don’t need a soap opera. Even the pacing sometimes, the search for Ray was exciting but it went on too long. I think when the writers lost focus on what the first few seasons were that’s when they started to lose viewers too – they can easily get that back though.
Absolutely agree, it’s turned into more of a soap opera this season. Season 1 was the best. While I know COVID has impacted the regularity of showing new episodes, it’s just helped me realize it’s not nearly as good as it used to be. I’m not gonna be upset if they cancel the show at this point.

I just read what their average audience is (article above) and this is what TV Line posted about MacGyver. “MacGyver is averaging 4.8 million total viewers and just over a 0.5 demo rating (in Live+Same Day numbers) — down 22 percent from Season 4. You are correct. Seal Team and MacGyver have been closely tied in ratings this Season –fractionals have MacGyver a smidgen ahead. And MacGyver did better in total viewers live+ overnight (4.8 million vs, 4.0 million.But both have been in the bottom grouping of CBS Dramas and that’s when other factors—salaries,production costs, paying subscriptions,international sales,etc.. can all make the difference.

Why don’t y’all take a survey and ask the American people if they want this show to go off, leave the show on!, I don’t recall getting a choice whether we went UHF to digital, now people that can’t even afford cable TV, get along can’t even afford to buy a digital TV, y’all didn’t give us a choice for that did you!, leave the show on
They do surveys. Its call RATINGS. Every week the execs gets the numbers and they know how many people are watching and in which parts of the country.
As to going digital. The big box stores have a converter box for less than $25.00. One time purchase. You don’t need a digital TV.
Also, leave the show as is where it is.
I love SEAL Team and really want the show to be renewed. But the episode release schedule has been super frustrating for me this year. CBS certainly wasn’t doing the show any favors and I’m not surprised the viewership numbers are way down. Having to wait multiple weeks between episodes is not a way to keep viewers. Big gaps between Dec and Jan, Jan and Feb, and only one single episode in all of February. Obviously the entire industry had their schedules impacted by the pandemic, but SEAL Team had the worst release schedule of any of the shows I watch (and I watch a LOT of TV shows). CBS should have just held episodes and waited until they could release most of them on a consistent weekly basis.
There is nothing that can be done about that. Every show this season has had that issue. They were dealing with shut downs like everyone else was.

PLEASE renew Seal Team. One of the best series we have had in the past several years. A show that is actually made for adults with a story behind it. Of course David isn’t bad to look at either. So much better than the stupid half hour comedies!

If anyone, David should know what could happen when networks are given ultimatums about renewing shows. Didn’t end well for Angel.
Between SEAL Team and SWAT I prefer SEAL Team, I mean yes, Shemar Moore – but story-wise SEAL Team all the way, SWAT bumbles its way through things – nothing to really keep interest week after week in my opinion, but SEAL Team keeps you wanting to come back week after week and hating the gaps in episodes. Just my opinion, but if they could renew SWAT, they should definitely renew SEAL Team.
Pretty sure it’ll come down to which show makes more money (E.g. streaming rights, international sales) against production costs, and (you would assume) SEAL Team is costlier given the amount of location shooting.

SWAT shoots itself in the foot IMO, because it’s done some really good gritty episodes (E.g. Hicks talking about the loss of his wife, Deacon and Buck’s mental health struggles) but doesn’t do enough of them. Hondo’s own issues seem to have taken a backseat to Street and Alonso’s will they/won’t they story as well.
SWAT became a pile of crap hence why I dropped it. SEAL Team is far better show yet seems like it’s going to get canned.

Maybe the reason that the show numbers are off is because of how sporadic new episodes are releasing. When there’s a week, or 2, off after every episode or a month nearly goes by before a new one shows up people will tend to forget to look for it. 11 episodes in 5 months does keep a strong fan base
