No further Secrets of Sulphur Springs will be uncovered.
TVLine has confirmed that the Disney Channel mystery series has been cancelled and will not return for a fourth season.
This cancellation comes a few weeks after TVLine reported that the Jessie spinoff Bunk’d, another live-action Disney Channel series, will be ending with its seventh season airing late this year; three months after TVLine reported that Saturdays‘ skating days are over; and right on the heels of the news that a Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series is in the works at the cabler.
When it debuted a little over three years ago, Secrets of Sulphur Springs followed Griffin Campbell (played by This Is Us‘ Preston Oliver), a 12-year-old boy whose family had uprooted their lives to move to the small town of Sulphur Springs and take ownership of The Tremont, an abandoned hotel, in hopes of restoring it into the lively vacation destination it once was.
Griffin soon learned that The Tremont was rumored to be haunted by the ghost of a girl who disappeared decades ago. Along the way, he befriended Harper (Kyliegh Curran), a bright-eyed, mystery-obsessed classmate, and together they uncovered a secret portal that allowed them to travel back in time.
In Season 3, which aired its finale in May 2023, a new ghost checked into Room 205 of The Tremont and started wreaking havoc. After learning that this evil presence would ruin their lives by 2024 (hey, that’s now!), the kids raced to solve a tangled mystery in the past.
Secrets of Sulphur Springs also starred Elle Graham as Savannah Dillon, Kelly Frye as Sarah Campbell, Josh Braaten as Ben Campbell, Landon Gordon as Wyatt Campbell, Madeleine McGraw as Zoey Campbell, Diandra Lyle as Jess Dunn, Johari Washington as Topher Dunn, and Eugene Byrd as Sam Tremont.
Are you (and/or your rugrats) sad to never visit Sulphur Springs again?
Ugh – so bummed. That show was really fun to watch as a family. First Benedict Society and now this? Kids like mystery shows – I don’t get it.
Child oriented networks like cheap shows that are easy to merchandise. Mystery shows are expensive. Disney learned from Gravity Falls (a show far superior to the excellent Sulphur Springs) the pitfalls of serialized mystery shows.
.
Disney doesn’t want shows that have to be strung together in large groups. They want to drop 2-4 eps over a 5 week period, disappear (wrt new eps) for 2 months, ad infinitim. They want holiday themed shows (for ALL the major holidays).
.
And if she show isn’t a ratings AND merchandising money-printing-machine, they want to keep the casts cheap. After year 3 costs can start to creep up. Especially on a show with the very high production values of Sulpher Springs.
.
Ergo, it got cancelled.
.
But Disney is on a tear lately. Bunk’d, which is an understandable cancelation, was followed by getting rid of Ghost and Molly McGee, which was great. I think Disney thinks, possibly correctly, that kids will basically watch whatever Disney Deigns to air. I also think Disney wants to transition kids to Disney + with its infinite choices, and then jack up prices once the kids are hooked.
We loved the Benedict Society also. Those shows used critical thinking skills. I miss them!!!!
Noooo!!! We want this series to continue. We absolutely LOVE Sulpher Springs! It’s a perfect family show for all ages. Please bring it back
Yes! Can they at least provide a few episodes to provide some.sort of closure????
A good reason not to watch a series until it has been on the air long enough to know there will be an ending. There have been several series I have been watching that ended on cliff hangers and then been canceled. There should be a clause in the contract that if a series is going to be canceled, there should be 1 or 2 more episodes to tie up the loose ends.
Aside for waiting for confirmation of an actual series finale there’s no such thing as knowing there will be an ending. Legends of Tomorrow for example got cancelled on a season 7 cliffhanger.
We loved watching Secrets of Sulphur Springs. Disney channel is really starting to go downhill. You keep getting rid of the good shows and replacing them with some terrible ones.
I agree. I’m a younger kid who just finished this show in 3 days. it was that good. I found this show from my friend who said it was good. I’ve enjoyed this show so much, I was looking for the next season’s release date, and that’s when I saw that it had been canceled. disney, you have made some great shows and movies, but right now, they honestly suck. you have made some of the best movies and shows I have ever seen. but that’s not good enough for you. so you cancel the good shows and replace them with crappy movies and shows. what is your deal? if the crowd likes it, then keep going with it. You all are a multi-millionare company, so I expected a lot more from you Disney.
I’m sad but the show was fun to watch especially the cast and It’s an amazing show
I’m still waIting for season 2 and 3 to finally come to my country. But loved season 1 and am always checking for new eps. Would like for it to have gotten a longer run.
Nooo! I’m gonna miss this show!
They could choose new kids to tell the story if they need to cause these kids are more grown.
No I don’t think they could just because these kids where central to the story of the show if you take these kids out and replace them with new ones it screws everything up I was probably just not having enough story left to tell that’s the gambit when you have a story driven show like this one was .
This sucks I loved this show it was one of the shows that got me back into watching Disney but that being said I do kinda see why they canceled it there’s not much story left to tell and most of if not all these contracts were probably up after season 3 so that could of played a factor as well.
Only other reason I could think of is maybe there wasn’t enough story left to tell or maybe it was a casualty of the strike that was going on last year that could be a possibility as well.
There kid showed up at the end saying not to break the dang time machine moron that’s plenty of story.
Well you can see that Disney wants to take programs that pre-teens like off the air. Yet they show a show which makes patent look like fools the show Bluey praises a kid and puts down parents,
Even as an adult I love the Secret of Sulfur Springs. I think they should run season 4 and round it out to the kids becoming adults. Since Griffins and Harper’s son shows up at the end of season 3 they need to continue with their story line.
The decision to cancel this wonderful show provides me with another reason to cancel my subscription to Disney+. You grow a media platform by providing quality programs that people enjoy watching. I rate this decision as “Disney-“, a failing grade.
This is such horse crap. This show was incredible.
Bad decision! Hope another network picks this up! Our family loves this show!
Very bummed we loved the series and have been waiting for season 4. The entire family watched it. We need more good shows like this
WoooooowW this show was a good show that cliffhanger go mess with me now…HOPE ANOTHER NETWORK PICK IT UP….F U DISNEY!!! AND YO LAND!!!!
Guys please don’t end secret of sulfur springs on a cliffhanger and please don’t cancel it I love watching that show it’s so exciting and fun to watch the first three seasons of the show were so damn good I loved watching them every single episode and I was so excited to see season 4 of the show guys keep the show going don’t cancel it please lots of people love that show including me and my mom please don’t cancel it I’m begging you keep it on TV do something to keep it on the air please
Don’t cancel the show please I love that show
So very sad. My 11 year old cried.
All I can say is every time they have a nice TV series which people enjoy then they go ahead and cancel it makes no sense
No!!!!! It can’t be over,
Why is it that the great shows are cancelled, and the dumb ones are 10 plus seasons
My daughter and I were so looking forward to the Secret of Sulphur Springs starting, that was our Friday night show together. Why was it canceled? PLEASE RENEW IT!!! We love all of the characters.
That’s exactly what I was going to say! We loved the show and couldn’t wait for Season 4. 😢
I’m 69 and I enjoyed that series. Why would Disney cancel something that has been successful for them and viewers liked? Non stop weirdness at Disney.
What a bummer. I’m 83 and love the series, and was really looking forward to the new season.
I’m 91 and near death, and this show was the only thing keeping me going. No reason to hold on any longer I guess. Goodb…
I agree; I thought it was the type of series that people of a wide range of ages and relationships (parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, friends, nieces, nephews, etc.) could watch together and bond over. Admittedly, there were a lot of things there were glossed over in the series, like whatever happened with say Ben, Jr.’s parents (we met only the father/grandfather, not the mother), heard nothing about Sara’s parents and a little about her grandmother/the Judge’s former wife, nor about Jess’s parents or Harper’s dad’s parents (especially since they were part of the Tremont family line to begin with) and many others that are too many to mention, but that could easily be blamed on the series being cut to only a half hour broadcast instead of the hour long episodes that were originally planned and their having such a small number of episodes per season instead of twenty to twenty-five or so which is more common among broadcast series as opposed to cable network series. In other words, Disney was trying to be as cheap as possible with the series to begin with. Now admittedly, (I hope I’m not being too long-winded or boring but I have a lot I’m trying to say) according to what’s in the series’s Wikipedia page, the series’ ratings dropped each year. However, that can be very misleading as usually these networks pay attention only to the ratings they want to pay attention to instead of all the viewers they have of their shows, and besides that, from what I recall, Disney didn’t exactly market the series very much either. Especially compared to some of the other, usually animated and newer series they have. Oh well, I’ve pretty much joined the crowd that’s extremely skeptical about watching new series as most of these networks are too quick to cancel a series–even ones that either won or were nominated for awards in their categories like Secrets of Sulphur Springs was and get relatively good ratings compared to other series in their timeslots. I should probably leave it at that since I’ve probably gone on too long anyway and it’s not as if Disney is likely to reverse its decision to cancel the series, nor is it likely to get picked up by some other network in a way that the series is likely to get as large or larger of a potential audience as it did on the Disney Channel (that is, not Disney+, but perhaps a over the air network that’s also carried by cable and streaming networks). Take care all, and best wishes.
Does our opinion of missing this show even matter to these people! They should at least let us have a voice like we should since we are the audience and let us vote and narrow down the shows, instead of waiting for random elimination!
I watch this show with my kids. It is so hard to find a show that everyone can watch together. This is a travesty
