If you want to stream your favorite Showtime series, there will soon be only one option for doing so.
Showtime has informed subscribers to its standalone streaming service — which launched back in 2015 — that the platform will officially shut down on Tuesday, April 30. Beginning May 1, the only way for viewers to stream original Showtime series will be by subscribing to the Paramount+ With Showtime Plan (details below).
“Now that subscribers can access their favorite Showtime programs on Paramount+ by subscribing to the Paramount+ with Showtime plan, the Showtime streaming service will shut down on April 30, 2024,” reads a notice on Showtime’s Help Center page. “Current Showtime streaming subscribers will continue to have access to the Showtime streaming service until it is shut down on April 30, 2024.” (Showtime’s homepage also alerts visitors that the app will shutter at the end of the month.)
Showtime will still exist as a linear premium cable channel even after the app’s shutdown; that channel, however, has also been rebranded as Paramount+ With Showtime, as of this past January.
Showtime’s standalone streamer first launched in July 2015, allowing users to stream Showtime content without necessarily subscribing to the linear channel. When Paramount+’s merger with Showtime was first announced in January 2023, it was indicated that Showtime’s streaming service would in turn shutter.

I hope they don’t make the combo the only option but I’m afraid they might. I haven’t watched anything on Showtime for a long time. I don’t want to have to pay for it just to get my CBS shows. I’m feeling this with Hulu also. Thinking in order to have Hulu you’re going to have to subscribe to Hulu/Disney. No more a la cart, just like cable.
You should watch Yellowjackets, it’s fantastic!
You don’t have to have Showtime. You can just have Paramount +
I have Hulu without Disney and ESPN
They never once thought to stream the Soul Food series, so odd to me.
We receive Showtime through our condo association
What do we do now
Ask your condo association
I wonder if it will still be part of CRAVE altho I haven’t watched anything from it for years?
If you have Showtime through your cable or satellite provider, you should be able to stream it through their app, right?
That’s what I’m wondering too, but it sounds like they are saying you’re screwed and won’t get it. You’ll have to pay again for more Showtime to stream it through the new app? Seems like they should cut the cost of paying for the channel in half, if that’s the case…
So far, that’s been the case for us. We have Showtime as part of our cable package (and Paramount+, w/o Showtime, as a separate service). There’s no way to combine them in one streaming service without effectively paying for Showtime twice.
With DirecTV, I subscribe to all the premium movie channels so I get Max and Paramount+ w/Showtime for free as part of that package, no increase in my bill. I also get the full MLB sports package for free now too. I’ve had DTV for a long LONG time…Sucks for all the stand-alone streamers though.
I haven’t been able to use the showtime app with my cable subscription but if I know what showtime show/film I’m specifically looking for I can watch it on demand on my cable box for no additional cost. I do miss flipping through the app and discovering new things
ok so i have no inside knowledge but i did work for a cable co. for 8 years. Here is what i think. Before HBO became Max, they used to have HBO Go and HBO as 2 separate apps. If you purchased HBO as a standalone app, i believe you would download HBO Go. If you had HBO with your cable service you would download HBO. The only way to sign in was to pick your cable service and enter your login. so I bet they will do something like that for cable customers.
Hopefully or they just have to watch the old way on their cable box OR through their cable’s streaming service.
If you have DirecTV and subscribe to Showtime, you will have access to Paramount+ with Showtime as part of the package (just like HBO and Max).
There are still a lot of Showtime original shows that aren’t steaming anywhere; Soul Food (2000), Resurrection Blvd. (2000), Leap Years (2001), Jeremiah (2002), Huff (2004), etc. They need to be putting them on Paramount+
Soul Food was my how but ohhh loved Resurrection Blvd. First time seeing Adam Rodriguez.
I wonder what this means for TV Everywhere Showtime streaming.
I am a longtime Showtime channel subscriber, now it is called Paramount+ w/ Showtime but except losing the stand alone Showtime streaming service all I get from Paramount is some 6-8 old Paramount shows, nothing else.
All about money these tv people don’t don’t care about the retired or people on fixed incomes
