Snowpiercer will soon be reaching its final destination: The dystopian thriller’s fourth season will be its last.
“We can confirm that Snowpiercer will end after a successful, multi-season run on TNT,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement to our sister site Deadline. “Its talented writers, actors and crew took an extraordinary premise and brought it to life in thrilling ways. It was critically acclaimed, had a significant impact on the post-apocalyptic genre, and now remains in the hearts and minds of fans forever.”
The post-apocalyptic series’ fourth season is currently in production, and according to the report, the cast’s options were not picked up, hence releasing the actors to book other jobs.

Snowpiercer — which landed a very early Season 4 renewal back in July of 2021 — follows the passengers of a constantly moving train that carries the remains of humanity after the world becomes a frozen wasteland. Based on the 2013 Bong Joon-ho film of the same name, the series stars Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Rowan Blanchard and Roberto Urbina.
In March, the show added Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD) and Michael Aronov (The Americans) to its roster, in addition to announcing Paul Zbyszewski (Helstrom) as its new showrunner. Zbyszewski has succeeded executive producers Graeme Manson and Aubrey Nealon.
The series was set to be TNT’s only remaining scripted original, with Animal Kingdom coming to a close after Season 6. The network was once a scripted powerhouse — home to such series as The Alienist, Claws, The Closer (and its spinoff Major Crimes), the Dallas revival, Falling Skies, Franklin & Bash, The Last Ship, Leverage, The Librarians, Perception and Rizzoli & Isles.
What do you think about Snowpiercer coming to an end, and what do you hope happens in the final season? Sound off by dropping some comments below.
At least they were told ahead of time so will be able to actually end the show…
100 percent agree.
Story-wise it makes sense based on where they ended last season, but I’ll be sad to see it go. I’d have preferred the show itself to have decided it was the end.
so apparently I watched 4 TNT shows to varying degrees. they are Leverage, The Librarians, Perception and Rizzoli & Isles.
—————————————–
perception I thoroughly enjoyed and was upset when it was cancelled. as much as I enjoyed it I could understand why it didn’t have the broadest appeal.
—————————————–
Leverage I may or may not have watched the whole thing I just recall it being a slog by the end as the suspension of disbelief requirement just became too much.
—————————————–
Rizzoli & Isles I simply found passable for a time, not sure that I finished the series.
—————————————–
the Librarians I found passable because of the cast but ultimately quit watching in the 2nd or 3rdd season.

this is all to say I don’t feel like TNT’s scripted department was ever very impressive. snowpiercer and animal kingdom feel like just 2 more in a long line of the tv train’s swerve toward “dark and gritty” with little justification other than the general public’s morbidity.
Well….damn. At least they got a heads up. Plus it kinda makes sense to end it at 4 or 5. Story wise it feels like they’re at the endgame anyways. TNT sucks now after this and Animal Kingdom coming to a close.😡
And with that, TNT bows out of the scripted game.
Total bummer. I was hoping Snowpiercer would survive as the last scripted show on TNT. Oh well, won’t be watching this channel again, I hate all the reality/game show crap. Thankfully they gave the show enough notice so they can do a real series finale. Two of my fave shows-Animal Kingdom and Snowpiercer gone. Sigh.
That is not how TV works. TNT’s parent company had just canceled a reality show weeks before it was due to premiere on TBS.
I’m OK with that. Better to know in advance and be able to script a proper ending.
As long as there is a good conclusion then fine. But just to let TNT know this is one viewer that will cease watching the network once Snowpiercer is done.
I’m sad to hear this, because I really enjoy the show. However, as others stated, at least they got notice so they can do a proper series finale.
Disappointing that this next season will be the last as I did enjoy this one.
Sounds like another casualty of the new Warner Brothers Discovery.
This seems more like its planned than a casualty. I mean the earth is warming and 1/2 the train is already living on solid ground. Snow piercers journey and story is over. If people still want this universe to be explored, then a spinoff series can be made showing them rebuilding civilization, but this series has definitely found its end.
TNT and USA used to be my go-to networks for great scripted series. Loved the TNT series The Alienist (I & II), The Closer, Major Crimes, Falling Skies, The Last Ship, Leverage, The Librarians, Perception, and Rizzoli & Isles. Network TV will be the next to go down the tubes. Sad.
Do you think Snowpiercer might be picked up by a streaming service?
They’d have to renegotiate cast contracts so it’s highly unlikely
This is just horrible! All the good shows are being let go. What is wrong with all these networks. Someone please start picking up all these good shows and keep them going.
Streaming is the future.
The end of an era. No more scripted shows on TNT. 😩
I haven’t seen S3 yet, waiting for it to stream. But, there were glimmers of hope in S2 that warming may be occurring, so it would seem plausible they could orchestrate a finale with S4.
Season three is currently streaming on HBO Max.
Discovery is only cancelling Warner Brothers shows. ='(
It ended for me with season two 🤷
TNT and TBS seem set to become another set of Discovery Channel clones. Sad.
I’m OK with it ending much as I enjoyed the series. The premise is one of those that stretches incredulity if it were to continue on. During the first season, I wondered how it might go three seasons just based on the story and here we are looking at S4.
The writers now know it’s coming to a close. They can really focus on crafting a terrific final season
The concept of this series seems really appealing to me but the visuals from the advertising just didn’t really reel me in. Looks like they had a lot of good actors though. I really enjoyed the film adaptation for the most part but close to end it really went a little downhill for me and the build up from the beginning just fizzled out and wasn’t what I was hoping for. This series from the looks, to me anyway, took the disappointing parts of the end of the film and incorporated it from the getgo of the show. Maybe I’m wrong. The lead didn’t seem to be as strong or as compelling as the most of the secondary characters from the commercials but the ads always did seem vague.
Wow what a series, its one of the best ever..Despite its so sad that fourth season will be the last…Cnt believe it
