CBS is not doing Wright by Skylar Astin and Marcia Gay Harden, cancelling their mother-son legal drama So Help Me Todd after two seasons, TVLine has learned. And that’s not the only show getting axed by the Eye Network — CSI: Vegas will also not be returning for Season 4.
Season-to-date, Todd is averaging 6.2 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), veritably matching its freshman numbers. Out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this TV season, it ranks last in total viewers and bests only CSI: Vegas and the already-renewed NCIS: Sydney in the demo.
As TVLine previously reported, Todd did not plan for its upcoming finale to be a possible series ender. Sources tell us that the episode — which airs immediately after Young Sheldon‘s two-episode farewell on Thursday, May 16 at 9 pm — ends on a huge cliffhanger. And now that the show has been cancelled, it seems unlikely that we’ll get an on-screen resolution.
Meanwhile, CSI: Vegas is averaging 6.2 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), up 8% in audience from its Season 2 numbers and steady in the demo. But out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this TV season, it ties for last in total audience and only bests NCIS: Sydney in the demo.
After airing for its first two seasons on Thursday nights at 10 pm, CSI: Vegas for Season 3 was relocated to the Sunday closer spot, where it leads out of TV’s most-watched drama, Tracker. The final episode of CSI: Vegas airs Sunday, May 19 at 10 pm.
But the fact is that while Todd and CSI: Vegas were steady or up year-over-year, CBS dramas have been overperforming, and TVLine hears that some tough calls are having to be made.

I won’t miss either of these shows as I wasn’t watching them. They were two on the list from CBS that I was hoping would be cancelled so that others I do watch might remain.

Todd and CSI Vegas are two of my favorites and not sure why the network is canceled them.

Uncancel So Help Me Todd! It’s a great show!! Great story lines. Really enjoy watching it. Cancel SWAT, again!! It’s storylines will be wrapped up. At the very least move So Help Me Todd to Paramount+. This season, shows weren’t on a regular schedule. Network would show one or two and then take 2 to 3 weeks off. I know it was a shortened season but did people know when new episodes would air?? Please rethink your decision.

I agree. Todd held its own and the erratic schedule was not good. If I didn’t have DVR, I would have missed many of my favorite shows! Move it to Paramount+ or sell it to another station.

I agree. With the strike shortened season, viewers needed time to get back into the storylines and it didn’t help that new episodes were not offered each week. Give So Help Me Todd another season so they can at least wrap up the outstanding storylines between Margaret and Gus, Margaret and Harry, Allison and her life, Lawrence and Chet’s new baby, Todd and Susan, and Margaret and Susan and Beverly to name a few. Moreover, we have Veronica on the run with someone else serving her prison term. Give So Help Me Todd a third season. Please!
I agree. Either uncancel So Help Me Todd, or move it to streaming.
Everything you say is 100% true. This was a crazy season for TV due to the strike.. I had to search every week for new episodes.. but I never missed SHMT.. I hope someone takes it on.. Todd definitely has a future and his Mom brings it all together!!
How about smarter programming, so that nothing gets cancelled? Next year probably your shows will perform the worst, then you will have to read others being happy about them being cancelled. Why can’t you be a bit nicer?
Where is the logic that “smarter programming” does not get cancelled?
Smart programing would be to air 10 or 11 episodes of a program then put on hiatus for a few moths. While that show is on hiatus put something on to fill its spot. The second half of the first series airs the second half of the season and when it ends you get the second half of the second series. This way you can break up 4 NCIS series 2 and 2. Or like have Fire Country run with Sheriff Country’s its fill in. It gives the networks more space for new shows and less reruns for veiwers. That is called smarter programming
Really like So Help Me Todd. I’d like to see it stay on. CSI Vegas is a little slow, in my opinion. Never liked Catherine. I liked how the show started, but now, not so much.
As much as I hate to see CSI gone again, I have to agree with you. I was thrilled when I saw it was coming back with Grissom on the show again. After he left, the show just seemed to be missing a big part of what made it good to begin with, the cast. Of all the people who came and went over the years, Catherine was always one of my least favorite characters. I like some of the new ones, but it would have been nice to include more of the people from the original like Nick Stokes, David Phillips, Morgan Brody and more Greg Sanders. I figured by now, one of them should have been running the lab.
The original cast was interesting, but this group of actors was boring. Even the cases were boring.
I haven’t seen any of these actors in anything else so I can’t judge how their acting was on those shows but on THIS show it’s like they just got their first acting job and they haven’t learned how to emote any emotion but a blank stare
I agree. Catherine was fine for a guest spot multi-episode arc like the other guest arcs in season one. This whole pairing thing works well but I feel it was only to iron out any workplace/team member issues. I believe season four would have gotten pass these speed bumps and would have soared from there. So Help Me Todd I have not watched. My mom did but could not get into it like she did Elsbeth. I’m worried that show will spend to long on this story/NY Police Dept. arc. She needs to venture to others cities, one for each season. CBS is the only station investing in their programming except NBC with Law & Order franchise.

We really like So Help Me Todd, we may not watch it the night it comes on, but we always watch it a day or two later. The CSI’S, and NCIS’s have been on for along time. Let So Help Me Todd, go another couple seasons.
I love both shows. Shame on you. CBS sucks. Cancelling Swat and Magnum which thankfully went to NBC you need to reevaluate your programming manager. I never comment on these things. So help me Todd is such an original idea with a fabulous cast I hope they get picked up by another network. That’s why you are never the number 1 network.

Really confused by the cancellations as of late. So Help Me Todd has been funny and it’s nice that it’s family oriented. I’ve enjoyed have CSI back. The heart breaker though is Star Trek Lower Decks.
Right! It’s family oriented that actually is a family show, meaning that my whole family can watch, without us having to cover our daughter’s face! Bring back family shows!

UNBELIEVABLE! I rarely watch network programming but “So Help Me Todd” was a standout exception. Great story lines, wonderful character development, fantastic actors! What more could CBS possibly want in producing a knockout show?!? I do hope this program will be picked up elsewhere where it’s appreciated for all its outstanding qualities.
I really, really hate to lose one of my favorite and unusual dramas – SO HELP ME TODD. Given the choice between that and ELSPETH, I would have renewed TODD. So sad!

Ugh! I guess that will clear up space on my DVR. Two of my regular shows will be deleted next month. Although Todd was a little scattered this year, I thought CSI Vegas has produced some really good episodes. Oh well, more time for streaming.
So Help Me Todd is one of the few new network shows that have gotten my attention now that streaming originals have become so prolific.
Marcia is a treasure in everything I’ve seen her in.
I am definitely going to miss so help me Todd. It’s a great comedy drama and I’ve gotten friends families and coworkers to start watching it! We all are going to be very disappointed. Maybe they could change the night it comes on it is up against NBC and all of the law and order series. One last thing…Marsha Gaye Harden always crushes it

Even more annoying when they renewed S.W.A.T. While S.W.A.T is a show I watch the loss of cash members this season has weakened it, in some ways if this is what we were going to get its a shame it was uncancelled last year but it seems like it will just be worse next season. The new characters are just bland and boring and the acting seems a little wooden, i don;t know if its bad casting or they are just being badly written for but they just arent great additions

I can’t help but wonder who is watching NCIS Sydney. I love the original and I really liked the New Orleans version. Hawaii is growing on me but I tried watching the Sydney version and I just can’t really get interested in it.

It’s divided into 2 seasons. 8 episodes now & 7 or 8 in the fall, then it’s gone for good.
Unfortunately I saw it coming for Todd once they renewed Elspeth but left this show off. :( So Help Me Todd really is a very cute and fun show, it’s mostly a lighthearted romp and we really need more of those today. I wish they’d at least considered sending it to Paramount+ instead of outright cancelling it. It’s good a decent, steady following and it can’t be that expensive to produce. And I’m super sad that we’ll never get Margaret/Gus endgame now.

Very surprised over So Help Me Todd’s cancellation – it was a pleasant show – and I hope Paramount picks it up. (Really must be tough for CBS to be blessed with an abundance of riches in terms of dramas.)
The biggest problem is scheduling space. When Equalizer and Hawaii get their news it’s a packed scheduled for the 2024-25 season with no room for anything else.
Wish all the networks programmed shows on Saturday again. It used to have some really good shows.
ABC carries sports from September (the USA’s number 2 sport, College Football) to July (NBA). NBC and CBS and Fox all carry college football in the Fall (until late Nov). Fox carries Baseball in the spring. Live sports do much better than scripted fare. So Saturdays are basically abandoned.

Todd was a unique, fun and entertaining show. It should be picked up by another channel. It appealed to all ages, as well. I am VERY disappointed in CBS.

A mistake. Especially SO Help Me Todd. Vegas was always limited, that was broadened out when it did well. But So Help Me was a lot of fun. I knew it was not going to be good, when a similarly quirky private eye type with Elsbeth has been renewed, and CBS has A LOT of shows. So, cuts were to happen.
Maybe they can shop So Help Me… Although this season with this firm struggles, it was a little let down. With a maybe evil boss. And whatever Alison was going through. I have to think bringing so many shows back to the air, at once was going to cause trouble for some of them. Instead of starting in the fall, and having time to come out with the shows…
So Help Me Todd was doing better ratings than the competition it faced, Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order: SVU (a little behind in demo, but just a little). So disappointed in CBS. And yet the soapy mess that is Fire Country continues and might get spin-offs.
Decisions aren’t made on how shows do vs competition but vs. other shows on same network (plus, ownership/other considerations). –Mgmt.
But now Special Agent Key won’t get to travel to Vancouver to pretend to be in Portland for a cameo.
This is why it would be great if ABC took it over, they need a show with strong ratings, SHMT needs a new home, it would be a win-win. Well, a loss for CBS, but they can’t seem to appreciate a good show.
Totally agree. Fire Country is another version of a ‘rescue’ program. A spin-off is one more unoriginal program. CBS should have kept So Help Me Todd.
