CBS is not doing Wright by Skylar Astin and Marcia Gay Harden, cancelling their mother-son legal drama So Help Me Todd after two seasons, TVLine has learned. And that’s not the only show getting axed by the Eye Network — CSI: Vegas will also not be returning for Season 4.
Season-to-date, Todd is averaging 6.2 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), veritably matching its freshman numbers. Out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this TV season, it ranks last in total viewers and bests only CSI: Vegas and the already-renewed NCIS: Sydney in the demo.
As TVLine previously reported, Todd did not plan for its upcoming finale to be a possible series ender. Sources tell us that the episode — which airs immediately after Young Sheldon‘s two-episode farewell on Thursday, May 16 at 9 pm — ends on a huge cliffhanger. And now that the show has been cancelled, it seems unlikely that we’ll get an on-screen resolution.
Meanwhile, CSI: Vegas is averaging 6.2 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), up 8% in audience from its Season 2 numbers and steady in the demo. But out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this TV season, it ties for last in total audience and only bests NCIS: Sydney in the demo.
After airing for its first two seasons on Thursday nights at 10 pm, CSI: Vegas for Season 3 was relocated to the Sunday closer spot, where it leads out of TV’s most-watched drama, Tracker. The final episode of CSI: Vegas airs Sunday, May 19 at 10 pm.
But the fact is that while Todd and CSI: Vegas were steady or up year-over-year, CBS dramas have been overperforming, and TVLine hears that some tough calls are having to be made.
Which of these cancellations comes as a bigger surprise? And which show will you miss having in your weekly rotation? Drop a comment with your thoughts on CBS’ decisions below.
Well another two shows gone for me, replaced by ones not watching. Figures
Really enjoyed So Help Me Todd, so I will miss it as well as Blue Bloods.
Are you kidding me?! I’m just so upset right now. I’m so tired of good shows being cancelled. Please let another network pick up So Help Me Todd.
I’m not happy about So Help Me Todd getting cancelled. That was a cute show that helped break up the monotony of hard-core dramas out there. As for CSI Vegas, I could’ve gone either way.
Boo we need more comedy in life and not just drama!
It was just too original, decent. Fun. Not enough violence and trite
sex scenes. Too intelligent and high quality so has to be canceled. This is T.V. in America now.
I am going to miss “So Help Me Todd” I really liked it we watch it every week.
I love So Help Me Todd!!! There is nothing like it on TV!!! It is so funny and a refreshing comedy!😢
So disappointed, really enjoy So Help Me Todd.
Sucks for Todd, but not surprising. This season hasn’t been as good as last season. Alison’s ridiculous storyline kind of took over and put a shadow on everything else. I kind of expected it once SWAT got another unexpected renewal. Maybe they could reconsider and give Margaret and Todd their own practice/PI agency and just focus on the two of them. Their dynamic is what makes the show. Are you listening/reading Netflix? Do us a solid!
Still can’t figure out why CBS is cancelling some shows and keeping those like Fire Country. Same stories week after week, my opinion.
It is about money generated for the studio. Nothing else really factors into the equation unless it is linked to profitability. Using another CBS property, the only reason why we have this current season of Blue Bloods is because the cast (and I believe crew as well) took a pay cut. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have even gotten this season.
More people watched those shows, and they generated more money. Can’t get less complicated than that.
I think they should keep both shows, to many
To many game shows and not enough real shows,
Oh no I love so help me Todd – hope another network picks it up
CSI Vegas I love the show I think you are making a big mistake
Very disappointed about both. :(
CSI VEGAS WILL MISS
It’s the dreaded Friday afternoon bad news drop. More disappointed in Todd’s cancellation but neither really reached their full potential with both having cats that never quite jelled.
I hate when you cat doesn’t jell!
I’m bummed, but not surprised by this. I really liked the show’s first season. This season, though, has been a letdown as it seems the writers didn’t know what to do with the characters or storylines.
I really love CSI
I’m very disappointed in CBS for canceling So Help Me Todd. I felt like it was really finding its groove this year. It has had some of the funniest episodes. They really didn’t do their programming any favors by being off the air for weeks due to basketball. This is why I have quit watching new shows as they don’t last long.
Got to make room for ncis spinoff i guess. I guess i will only be watching ghosts and elsbeth next year. Streaming, here i come
I am very annoyed about the cancelation of CSI Vegas. I really enjoyed it; please reconsider!
So sorry that CBS cancelled CSI Vegas. It’s a well written show with a good cast. The schedule change hurt it.
No they need to keep so help me todd
So Help Me Todd is one of the most entertaining drama/comedy shows now airing! I hated to see it had been canceled 😞
They’re pulling TODD??? What a bonehead huge mistake. Who’s running CBS? Please tell me that losersagansky isn’t back in town. OMG!!! Huge miss for CBS- just like old times 😂
