It’s game over for The Big Door Prize, which is not being renewed for a third season at Apple TV+, TVLine has learned exclusively.
The dramedy received an early Season 2 pickup in April 2023, just one week after its series premiere. Unfortunately, it will not be so lucky this time around.
Based on M.O. Walsh’s novel of the same name, The Big Door Prize told the story of “a small town that is forever changed when a mysterious machine appears in the general store, promising to reveal each resident’s true life potential,” according to the official logline. Bridesmaids vet Chris O’Dowd played Dusty Hubbard, “a seemingly content, cheerful family man and high school teacher” who “watches everyone around him reevaluate their life choices and ambitions — based on the machine’s printouts — and is forced to question whether he is truly as happy as he once thought.”
“While he remains skeptical of the machine, his wife, Cass (played by A Black Lady Sketch Show‘s Gabrielle Dennis), indulges in the dream that there’s something bigger out there for her,” the logline continues. “Like many of Deerfield’s residents, the couple has lived a relatively safe, uncomplicated life, until the arrival of the Morpho machine. However, all of that is about to change when the community is forced to reconcile with their unfulfilled achievements in pursuit of a better future.”
The Big Door Prize is the streamer’s latest casualty, following the cancellations of musical comedy Schmigadoon! and astronaut drama Constellation. But it’s not all bad news! Apple TV+ recently announced renewals for several other series, including Slow Horses, Hijack, Invasion, The Last Thing He Told Me, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, For All Mankind and Drops of God.

This makes me sad. S2 was far better than s1.
Oh it was? I gave up after season one, maybe I’ll give it a go, even though it’s been canceled. Season 1 had a great idea but it fell a little flat for me.
I guess nobody watched.
oh, please reconsider! This series is so good and we can’t wait to see how these characters develop.
Completely agree! I love this show!
Thought the show was very interesting. Seems to me everytime we get to persons character, or start to get interested in the development of a show before we get to really understand what is going on, Apple cancels the programming. And once again we’re left hanging on for an ending!
You won’t see how they develop. The show has been cancelled.
Fork!
Fork indeed. 😡😡🙄
Why do I bother. This was a good show. Loved Season 2 and was looking forward to the next season! AppleTv. What are you thinking!
Not sure I understand your argument when saying “why do i bother”.
Maybe two seasons is not the plan they had, but I don’t think shows see their true vision completed ever on TV.
If something is a rare breakout hit, it will be stretched out for as long as possible, and network executives will force certain things in. If a show is underperforming it could be a 1, 2 or 3 year run and that’s it.
Just because the series finale doesn’t wrap everything up perfectly doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the preceding season(s).
Clearly you didn’t watch this show. It was great, and NOTHING was wrapped up yet. Was super excited for Season 3, and now we will never know. Really unhappy with Apple for cancelling it.
I am mixed on this. I love it but I find it exhausting. Provokes a lot of introspection for me.
It must have done really poorly. Apple has been pretty good up until this point on providing endings. Especially since it didn’t seem very expensive.
I wish we could get a one episode wrap-up at least. I found it a really interesting idea for a show and would like to see everyone’s ending.
Noooooooooo! What a bummer. I was holding onto my subscription for this one. Would love a wrap up to know what Morpho is/ how everyone turned out.
Bummer. It was interesting.
Can someone tell me if Season 2 wraps up in a satisfying way? Otherwise, I may quit now.
Season two ends on several big cliffhangers.
I’m not really surprised. Every time I watch an episode I go months before watching another, it feels like a show I ought to love a lot more than I do.
Cute show but it didn’t have a real antagonist. It was fun but honestly kind of hard to recommend. “Yeah watch this show where a machine makes people behave irrationally with a single word on a card.”
A show or a movie doesn’t always need an antagonist. Ted Lasso didn’t have one, and it was the most successful show on Apple TV+.
The Big Door Prize was the same. It didn’t need one. If anything, the antagonist to each and every one of these characters was themselves, which made for a genuinely great show.
I will miss it dearly. This show brought me joy every week.
I liked this show because Chris is the heart of that show. I’m not surprised though and I’m also sad to hear Schmigadoon! is not going forward. I wish they would’ve done one final season. I liked some of the songs from the show.
This is really sad news. I loved both seasons.
I guess they like shooting ther own feet over at apple.
Why would I ever recommend anyone to get apple tv if this is how you’ll be treated?
Cancelling shows too early is why I unsubbed from netflix several years ago.
So, byebye apple.
What a shame, I love this show. I enjoyed the characters so much that I actually started caring less about the mystery of the Morpho Machine, and more about the people and the town. This may sound corny, but the show just had a certain charm to it, and I’m really going to miss that. Not a lot of shows have that certain “something”, but this one did.
So disappointed. I hate no resolution to ongoing stories
Just started watching it not so bad… too bad really
Not the best show on streaming but I’m very disappointed because it had a great cast with Giorgio being my favorite. This was my guilty pleasure and it’s done now with no ending. Very sad about this.
You can watch “The Other Two” which the actor who played Giorgio was also in it. The show was very good too.
I’m so frustrated! Always get invested in shows and then they cancel everything after one or two seasons, leaving us with a huge cliffhanger and wondering where it’s going to go next. I sometimes wonder why I bother with any of these shows…
I only watch 2 shows on Apple TV and this is one of them. I’m disappointed I won’t get to see what happens.
So disappointing! There were so many unanswered questions at the end of Season 2. Shane on Apple!
Noooooo! I love that show! Such a disappointment.
I’m extremely disappointed that The Big Door Prize was cancelled. I really enjoyed that show. Please reconsider.
Noooo how can they leave it unfinished like that? I loved this show!!!
It sucks to get invested and then Apple cancels. So disappointing.
Thus was a great show very disappointed hiw could they end it with a cliff hanger
