This is the way… to the cineplex.
The Mandalorian is getting his own theatrical film, Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm announced Tuesday.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will go into production sometime in 2024. Jon Favreau, showrunner of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, will direct. He’ll also produce alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said via statement. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Kennedy added via statement: “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”
Pedro Pascal stars as the titular bounty hunter (aka Din Djarin) in Disney+’s The Mandalorian, which streamed its Season 3 finale in April 2023. The episode ended with Djarin informing the Armorer that that he would formally adopt Grogu — colloquially known as “Baby Yoda” — so that the Child could be his official Mandalorian apprentice. (Read a full recap of the episode.) Pascal’s involvement in the movie, however, has not yet been confirmed.
What are your thoughts about a Mandalorian movie? Will you go to the theater to see it? Hit the comments and let us know!
YES!!!
So this is taking the place of season 4 I assume?
Star Wars isn’t for me anymore. I’ve been a huge fan since 1980; all the movies, DVDs, blu-rays, games, books, toys, and I’ve enjoyed it all so much…..until around 2017. I’m glad there’s a market for this so-called Mando-verse, but I’m sad to realize that with the direction Kathleen Kennedy is taking this once beautiful world, it’s time for me to move on. :(
I’m afraid to say it but I don’t think Star Wars will miss you.
LOL
Ma’am, if you’ve enjoyed Star Wars until 2017, why are you still harping on about no longer enjoying it in 2024? Time for you to move on and find things you enjoy, perhaps?
So this is the end…
Should the movie be successful there’s no reason why Disney wouldn’t do more. I’d say this is the beginning more than anything. Big screen Mando, Ahsoka etc will all be a thing.
Yes yes yes I will go to the movie theater to see this.
So it’s Grogu with his sidekick The Mandalorian — looks like Kennedy will have to cough up big bucks for Pedro. With her in charge, I have no hope for its success — what a shame — since I loved the first two seasons.
Kennedy has been in charge of Lucasfilm since Disney bought them. Including seasons 1-2. So if you liked earlier seasons, you’ve got no logical reason to hate on this just because she is still a boss at Lucasfilm.
Aside from that though, re-read the article. Favreau is directing, and Filoni and Favreau are also producers. Even if you have no faith in Kennedy, why no faith in the guys who have made the show what it is so far?
KK’s *overall* leadership and where she took Star Wars is a problem for some (myself included). Yes, she was also at the helm for seasons 1 and 2 which I enjoyed, and I also really liked Obi-Wan Kenobi, so I don’t really think that whatever she touches, is crap by default.
However, I’m not a fan of her focus on general diversity in storytelling styles. For me, Star Wars was a style by itself, and KK made Star Wars a vehicle for different styles. I’m not sure if that makes sense.
Like I said, it’s great if there’s an audience for it and if people like it — but *most* of what she and Filoni have been doing, is not my kind of thing.
Not TOO many big bucks, I guess. Pedro Pascal only did voice work for season 3 (was never on set, apparently), so they’ll probably go that same route for the movie. Saves them some credits.
Even as far back as S1 there were episodes he was never in the suit apparently, Sanctuary (Chapter 4) for example. With the casting announcement on The Last of Us today as well it’s likely there will be at least some overlap of shooting schedules
Let’s go Favreau and Filoni!!! Finally have free reign!!! Now we are gonna finally see some STAR WARS!!!
This will likely be a big hit, but if they brought back Gina Carano it would be much, much bigger. Let’s see if Disney has learned any lessons after losing record $ on their 2023 theatrical releases.
She did a fine job in seasons 1 and 2, but I don’t think the general public cares that much about Cara Dune being in it or not.
Right.
Cause Gina Carano is such a big box office draw…
No she’s not, but she was a very popular element of this series and a large portion of the fan base misses her, therefore her return would be an event.
That portion of the fan base is likely a lot of the same people who have largely abandoned Disney content over political differences in recent years. Therefore, bringing her back would bring a lot of attention and good will to the project.
It would also signal to the public at large that it’s okay to get past covid-era differences and to put divisiveness to rest, a sentiment a large portion of the public is actually clamoring for.
Its probably best to not stir the pot by bringing her back, I would love to see her character again, but really only under the condition of a recast.
The ‘very popular element’ of the series and ‘large portion’ of the fanbase seems vastly overstated. She was part of the show, and now she’s not.
Hard to say whether her character was even missed because she wasn’t exactly a critical part of the Mandalorian’s story. They moved on without her, and her absence wasn’t really felt at all.
No, I will wait for it to come to Disney+
Can’t wait! Hope it’s the 1st in a series!
Wasn’t it the plan to make a movie with both Ahsoka and the Mandalorian? To wrap up both shows in one big movie? Is that still happening, or is it being replaced with this one? I’m gonna watch the movie regardless, but I also hope to get some close on the Ahsoka/Rebels characters.
Oops, I only just read the news that Ahsoka was also renewed for season xD
Sound like on of them direct to DVD movies. Who greenlit thi?. Only way I see this working is if it’s a D+ movie not a theatrical release.
YES! More than once! I hope Disney+ will still have a season 4.
I would go anywhere to see the Mandalorian! It has been a very long time since I’ve had the joy of watching such an original cast of characters, maneuver in an awesomely different “world.” I binge watched every season, then went back and watched a couple more times just in case I might have missed a scene. *LOL* I look forward to the movie, and many more seasons of the Mandalorian on Disney + as well!
Sorry. I don’t have a website.
Yes I can’t wait. I wish the story line would continue as a tv series but just glad to see it go big screen wit it.
I take it that this is replacing season 4?
