CBS is staying put in The Neighborhood, renewing the Cedric the Entertainer comedy for Season 7.
The network on Tuesday also announced renewals for procedurals NCIS (Season 22), FBI (Seasons 7, 8 and 9), FBI: International (Season 4) and FBI: Most Wanted (Season 6).
“The Neighborhood and NCIS are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”
Season-to-date, The Neighborhood is drawing north of 5.8 million total weekly viewers (with Live+7 playback), down just 11% from its Season 5 average. It also stands as TV’s third-most watched comedy, trailing CBS’ own Young Sheldon and Ghosts.
The Neighborhood, which premiered in 2018, centers on the unlikely friendship between next-door neighbors Calvin (Cedric the Entertainer) and Dave (Max Greenfield), and their wives, Tina (Tichina Arnold) and Gemma (Beth Behrs). Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears play Calvin and Tina’s sons Malcolm and Marty, while Hank Greenspan plays Dave and Gemma’s son Grover.
The multi-cam returned for its strikes-shortened Season 6 in February. Its final four episodes of the spring — which will culminate in the birth of Marty and Courtney’s first child — will begin airing Monday, April 15 (CBS, 8/7c). Its season finale is slated for May 6.
CBS had previously renewed for the 2024-25 TV season Ghosts (for Season 4), Fire Country (for Season 3), and NCIS: Sydney and Tracker (both for Season 2).
Young Sheldon, Bob Hearts Abishola and S.W.A.T. are currently unspooling their farewell runs, while Blue Bloods is airing the first half of a final season that will conclude in the fall.
On the scripted side, that leaves the fates of the NCIS: Hawai’i, The Equalizer, So Help Me Todd, CSI: Vegas and midseason newbie Elsbeth still TBD.
TVLine’s Renewal/Cancellation Scorecard has thusly been updated.
I am sooooo happy The Neighborhood got renewed. It’s must see TV for me, I even laff harder when I watch the reruns than I did when the episodes first aired! Good job CBS, you got this one right! Now I’m just waiting to see what happens with “The Equalizer”.
Equalizer still has some good ratings so I think it’ll get renewed but I do think we’ll see some type of Sunday shake-up. Matlock was originally scheduled for Sundays last fall before the strike changes, with Equalizer shifting back an hour – but Tracker ended up on the night and has done well. I think we might see either Equalizer or Tracker on a new night, such as Wednesdays if Survivor goes back to an hour or Thursdays depending on the dramas that night (which I really like both SHMT and Elsbeth, so would love to see both renewed, but ratings-wise they and CSI: Vegas are much more vulnerable than Equalizer.
I love TN. So glad it go renewed.
Thank You CBS! Great show
Great! And the show hasn’t missed a step. It’s just gotten funnier and funnier.
Wish Bob Hearts Abishola had also been renewed.
Perfect!
The Caucasian couple and little boy are the funniest and the two sons looks as old as the parents…nobody looks alike at all but I am glad to the entertainer entertains and Tichina always keep a job one way or another…but I am.concerned about Ceddie weight gained…it doesn’t look healthy at all
