Justin Hartley vehicle Tracker has earned itself a speedy Season 2 renewal, just four episodes into its freshman run.
“Tracker kicked off our premiere week with a ratings bang and has kept the momentum going,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said in a statement Monday. “We knew we had something special when we saw the very first cut of the series and the overwhelming audience response confirms it. We couldn’t be more grateful to Justin [Hartley], the talented cast, the incredible writing and producing teams and our partners at 20th Television for such compelling episodes. And, of course, we’re also so thankful to the millions of viewers tuning in each week.”
Tracker enjoyed a significant kick-off leading out of this year’s Super Bowl, with 18.4 million total viewers (in Live+Same Day). After its first regularly scheduled Sunday outing retained 6.9 million viewers, the series has grown its audience every week since, most recently delivering 7.4 million viewers.
With Live+7 playback (and that post-Super Bowl showcase) factored in, Tracker thus far is averaging 10.4 million viewers, closely trailing only CBS’ own NCIS (10.48 mil) in that measure, out of all entertainment programs that have aired this broadcast-TV season.
CBS notes that Tracker currently stands as the most-watched new show on TV since Young Sheldon (which in 2017-18 averaged 16.49 mil viewers) and is the most-watched new drama since Empire (which in 2014-15 averaged 17.33 mil viewers).
The one-hour drama — which is loosely based on the Jeffrey Deaver novel “The Never Game” — casts the This Is Us vet as Colter Shaw, a lone-wolf survivalist who roams the country and uses his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries.
Rounding out the procedural’s ensemble are Fiona Rene as Reenie Greene, Robin Weigert as Teddi Bruin, Abby McEnany as Velma Bruin and Eric Graise as Bob Exley. Wendy Crewson recurs as Colter’s mother Mary.
TVLine readers gave Tracker‘s series premiere an average grade of “B+.” New Season 1 episodes resume Sunday, March 17, at 9/8c on CBS (and stream next day on Paramount+).
YAY!!!! I’m so happy to hear we will have more Tracker. I’ve read the books, listened to the audio books, and am delighted with the tv series. Justin Hartley is absolutely terrific!
Glad to hear this. Enjoying this one.
Forgot to mention Jeffery Deaver…as you can tell, I’m a long-time fan of this wonderful author
Big fan of Jeffrey Deaver, as well.
So am I. Read everything he writes.
This is great news because I was hooked from the first episode. It’s always good when the author and the creator of the character is a part of the production team because the quality of the storytelling shines through. And Justin Hartley is fantastic. I love how Colter Shaw is confident without being cocky. It’s nice to have a quality series to look forward to each week.
I am so glad that we decided to watch this show! I had no plans originally to tune in. From the pilot episode, hubs and I have really enjoyed it. Sometimes, it’s hard for me to see an actor take on a new role after being with a long running series..it’s me, not them. I tend to see the character that they used to play. For example, it took several episodes for me to watch Ryan Eggold in New Amsterdam without expecting him to off someone like he did as Tom Keen. Justin has done a remarkable job shedding Kevin and taking on this role. Awesome that we don’t have to worry about the series being cut short in the next couple of months.
Cool. I am glad it got renewed. I love the show.
Definitely a solid performer so far
wow! this is amazing news! I love this show. I’m pleasantly surprised to see how great it’s doing in the ratings and now it’s already renewed. Looking forward to more Tracker and hope it will keep being this good and people will keep watching
Great news! I love this show: the premise, the characters, and Justin Hartley. CBS has a real winner with Tracker.
Will the initial episodes ratings alleviate my doubts about Tracker‘s long-term success, or should I still be worried? Tracker‘s ratings and quality could drop off at any time as its original run goes on. Can we bring in CBS Studios to co-produce Tracker alongside 20th Television for the sake of its long-term security, and avoid its eventual death with no proper-send-off? On the plus side, this renewal will screw next season’s Matlock reboot out of any long-term success.
A little P.S. to CBS: Please get a SITCOM, and nothing else, for your next Super Bowl telecast in 2028?
I don’t think so. There is definitely room for Matlock. CBS has a fair number of slots to fill in the fall. They have to replace SWAT and Blue Bloods on Fridays, for example.
I don’t understand. Why all these downvotes? Seriously, y’all won’t let me stand by NOTHING these days.☹️
Excellent! It’s a great show and Justin Hartley is so good in it.
This is good news – I’m enjoying the show.
Tracker is the best! I have enjoyed every episode so far. And so have all my friends that I have mentioned to them to be sure to watch. Good job writers, cast and crew members. Keep up the good work! Love it.
Really enjoying this show. Keep it up
It’s bland and generic of course it was going to get renewed.
You just described yourself
That was the vibe I got off the ads P+ keeps pushing at me. “The problem with you is you’re just so damn interesting” was the most cringe line ever, as well. Infantile writing 101, like a ten year old telling you about his writing class story “Oh my character’s flaw? He’s just, like, SO cool. He’s too cool and it’s a problem how amazing and cool he is”
Yeah, his coworkers/teammates are all pretty flat characters that serve the purpose of moving the story to the next beat. “Hey Colter, I hacked that cell phone number” or “Colter, I’ll call your ex to get you out of jail.”
So happy it’s renewed for a second season 🙌 🤗
Nice to see that the studio execs believe enough in this product to give it an early renewal and let the audiences to enjoy the whole story and allow the writers to plan ahead. This is how it should always be. And it’s cool to still see Justin Hartley on TV, I still remember his run as Green Arrow back in Smallville. Great days.
Justins fine as the lead but the shows just ok. The side team is boring so fsr and he neeeds to fail on a case b4 i keep buying it.
I’m enjoying the series so far, so I’m happy to hear it.
Haven’t read the books but immediately liked the series, gave me Reacher vibes :)
This mean nothing.
They did the samething with
East New York.
Fickle much.
They did? I don’t seem to remember ENY getting renewed for a second season.
They didn’t even give East New York a chance. One season. And I’m sorry it was better than this show to me and way better than Ghosts. Next, it will probably be Equalizer getting axed for another show similar to this. Meanwhile, CBS keeps shows like Ghosts on their air. CBS is not a great network. They always get rid of the shows I really like for some of these pitiful ones. Oh well. Life goes on.
Maybe in Season 2 he can keephis shirt on
Good news. Good show. They should make Paniz Zade a regular. She played the police officer in the pilot episode who had good chemistry with Colter.
Finally some good news.
It’s like a breath of fresh air.
Love Justin and the stories.
Keeps you very entertained
I’m so glad Tracker is renewed. I love Justin Hartley. He played on my favorite soap Y&R.
Thanks
