If your DVR has started to seem a little emptier these days, it’s not just your imagination: We’re less than halfway through 2020, and nearly 40 series have already aired their very last episodes.
Whether they said goodbye with a predetermined final season or fell victim to a premature cancellation, more than three dozen shows — across broadcast, cable and streaming — have thus far left our screens this year. (And we hate to pour salt in that wound, but broadcast TV alone still has 25 scripted series that might get a visit from the Grim Reaper in the weeks ahead.) [pmc_inline_gallery]
To help you keep track of the year’s many swan songs, we’ve compiled the attached gallery, a bookmark-worthy resource that includes all of the recently departed series. Note: Our gallery does not include a) shows that were cancelled in 2020 but aired their final episodes in 2019, such as USA Network’s The Purge, or b) shows that announced a final season this year but will wrap in 2021 or later, like AMC’s Better Call Saul.
Fun fact! At the halfway-ish point of the year, CBS’ Criminal Minds is currently the longest-running show to leave us in 2020, with a whopping 15 seasons and 324 (!) episodes. On the flip side, Fox’s dating experiment Flirty Dancing is the shortest-lived show to depart, with just six installments.
Scroll through the attached gallery — or click here for direct access — for an up-to-date list of the shows we’ve lost so far, then drop a comment with the series you’ll miss most.
How to Get Away with Murder. I doubt we’ll ever get another legal thriller/mystery drama so brilliant and full of twists.
Exactly!
Arrow 💞 💞
October Faction
Project Bluebook
The Magicians
The Good Place & Modern Family
Project Blue Book, Deputy and H50 for me.
I guess I missed the announcement for Liar. It was a good show but really had no where to go.
The number one spot is a toss up between Schitt’s Creek and The Good Place – although both had wonderful finales, so I don’t feel like I NEED more of either show. I will miss the characters a lot though. I’d also add Modern Family to the list. It was a fun show, but never really a top tier favorite for me.
The Magicians.
I’m going to miss a lot of shows from this year, but The Magicians had so much more to say. The story was simply not over yet.
For Ray Donovan I just hope they conclude the show somehow.
Schitt’s Creek. Comedy as it was meant to be written. How to Get Away with Murder due to the sheer brilliance of Viola Davis. And Hawaii 5-0 because it was eye candy!
Agree with you on HTGAWM and Hawaii 5-0, didn’t watch Schitt’s Creek.
A poll would go great here
Wow, Netflix really said bye to many.
With Stephen Amell’s daily chats and The Good Place putting out more podcasts, I’ve really been reminded of and missing those two.
Schitt’s Creek
Spinning Out. Such a shame this was cancelled. Too many unanswered questions!
BOJACK HORSEMAN – the most profoundly touching, most human and funniest show of the last decade.
THE GOOD PLACE – for asking thought-provoking questions of what it means to be good person.
GLOW – for the central relationship between Debbie and Ruth; and the bond between that misfit group of women.
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER – for the melodrama and the great soundtrack.
THE 100 – for the world-building.
and if it gets cancelled due to rebranding of the network: WARRIOR for the awesome fight scenes, great soundtrack.
Out of the seven that I watched from the list (Supernatural is not done quite yet), I will miss Arrow and H50 the most but the finale of The Good Place had me tear up the most.
What İ Lost This Year:
1. Spinning Out (Netflix)
2. Arrow ( The CW)
3. The Good Place (NBC)
4. Tell Me A Story (CBS ALL ACCESS)
5. Criminal Minds (CBS)
6. Carol’s Second Act (CBS)
7. Project Blue Book (History)
8. Deputy (FOX)
9. The Magicians (SyFy)
10. God Friended Me (CBS)
11. Tommy (CBS)
12. How To Get Away With Murder (ABC)
But Thank God i don’t have to say goodbye every each one them. Because some of i didn’t finist yet. Goodbye The Good Place, Carol’s Second Act and Criminal Minds. İ half there to say goodbye to Tell Me A Story too.
The Good Place. I’m still in mourning.
Can’t choose between Arrow and Good Place. Miss them both.
I feel there should be some sad, sentimental music playing while scrolling through the list.
Just Criminal Minds; never watched any of the others.
How to get Away with Murder probably. We were always on the edge of our sea…couch. Kept us guessing every season. Thankfully the ending was great! I’ll also miss Homeland & The Good Place. The Good Place was an unique comedy, they’re rare and I really hope they’ll win the emmy for best comedy this year.
Schitts Creek for sure. I miss it already.
Arrow and Spinning Out
Very upset about God friended me. It was a decent & enjoyable show for all.
HTGAWM, The Good Place & Schitt’s Creek!😭😭😭😭
Ray Donovan
The Magicians
Arrow
Deputy
Anne, because it was SO good and really wasn’t done yet. Though I definitely love The Clone Wars more, that ended this year only because we got to have that final season at last, so it’s less “I miss it” than “I’m glad I have a whole story to enjoy.”
I wish I could have stuck with She-Ra and The Magicians but I lost interest. May go back and try again, I guess…
