Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell is plotting a return to live-action TV.
The former Phil Dunphy will star in and executive-produce Forgive and Forget, a multi-camera comedy pilot for ABC, TVLine has learned.
The potential series will be written by Eugene Garcia-Cross (The Santa Clauses, Peacock’s Punky Brewster); Robin Shorr (Diary of a Future President, The Middle) will serve as showrunner. Both will executive-produce alongside Burrell.
Per the official logline, Forgive and Forget “follows perennial life of the party Hank (Burrell). After an unexpected diagnosis, Hank reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together.”
Burrell was nominated for eight Emmys, and won two, for playing Modern Family‘s Phil. He currently voices Jack on Fox’s animated series Duncanville. His other TV work includes Damages, Key and Peele, The Super Hero Squad Show, Back to You, Out of Practice and The West Wing.
In other ABC pilot news: The network also recently ordered Shifting Gears, a multi-camera sitcom pilot starring Home Improvement‘s Tim Allen. The potential series, which is being written by Duncanville creators Mike and Julie Scully, centers on Allen’s Matt, “the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” according to the official logline. “When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
What happened to Julie Bowen’s comedy pilot? Anyone know?
Good to hear, I hope it does well. I am glad it is going to be on ABC.
