Neil Patrick Harris‘ quest for love has reached an early conclusion. Netflix has cancelled Uncoupled after just one season, TVLine has confirmed.

Uncoupled followed NPH as New York City real estate agent Michael Lawson, who suddenly found himself single after being unceremoniously dumped by longtime boyfriend Colin McKenna. The comedy’s eight-episode first (and only) season ended with Colin returning to their apartment and telling Michael that he made a huge “mistake.”
“We enjoy painting ourselves into a corner,” executive producer Jeffrey Richman tells TVLine of Michael and Colin’s open-ended final encounter.
Other finale twists included Michael’s coworker Suzanne coming face to face with her son’s father for the first time since college; Michael’s best friend Stanley revealing that he has breast cancer; and Billy, the group’s resident “fun one,” deciding that it’s time to get serious about love and life.
In addition to NPH, Uncoupled also starred Tuc Watkins as Colin, Tisha Campbell as Suzanne, Brooks Ashmanskas as Stanley, Emerson Brooks as Billy and Marcia Gay Harden as Claire.
The show was executive-produced by creators Richman and Darren Star, as well as NPH and Lilly Burns. Star also produces Emily in Paris for Netflix, which has already been renewed for a fourth season.
Our Streaming TV Scorecard has been updated to reflect Uncoupled‘s fate. Your thoughts on the romantic comedy? Drop ’em in a comment below.
I hope they shop it around
Shop what around?
It’s nearly impossible for a Netflix show to get picked up on another streamer. It’s a little easier for a broadcast/cable network (ie One Day at a Time) but that’s not likely either here.
The Deadline article about the cancellation said that Paramount (who produces the show) tried to get it onto one of their networks (probably/likely Showtime) but couldn’t make the financials work. If it were going to be saved, it probably would’ve been there.
This is disappointing. I loved season one.
Me too. ☹️
Damn, damn, damn! Loved this show, so of course they cancel it!
Are you kidding me?! That was an awesome show!
Disappointed at this cancellation. I really enjoyed the first season and think there was a lot that could have been explored in a second round.
I loved it!! SO sorry to hear it’s not coming back
Very unhappy. This was a quality show.
Of course.
LMAO
Hopefully another streamer picks this up…great show.
That’s weird, it sounded like it streamed pretty well when it came out. It was in Netflix’s Top 10 list.
tbh not even Neil seemed enthusiastic about this show, the premise was good, the execution… not so much, but it could’ve been a show that picked up steam after more episodes. Also, I believe it probably would’ve gotten two more seasons if it had been made for Apple.
Ugh… this was a really good show! What a bummer
This was a great show and I was hoping for a second season but I’m not surprised. Netflix is brutal with their shows.
Don’t give up. Hopefully another network or streamer will be smart and pick this show up for at least one more season.
Well deserved cancellation, the show was awful.
WRONG!
What was awful about it?
The boring, predictable storylines. The cliched, unlikeable characters. The failed copy-cat attempt at a gay SATC wannabe. Shall I continue?
I guess that’s why there’s vanilla and chocolate. Not everyone has the same taste.
Agreed
Well, Seinfeld’s first season was pretty lackluster, but it turned into one of the greatest sitcoms.
Disagreed. I actually binged it last weekend and liked it alot.
I am going to miss this show, it was different and entertaining plus funny.
What a great show. Age, sex, sexual preference all so well represented. Damn shame.
Most people judge a show based on its entertainment factor, not on “representation.”
A well-deserved cancellation.
It was a good show tbh.
I’m glad I did not start watching. I learned it ends in a huge cliffhanger, that won’t be ever solved now. Showrunners need to end seasons on a satisfying note with hope for more, not cliffhangers. Very few seasons last on streaming. Funny, but I actually miss broadcast now… Now a long running series has a 36 episode run, at most, and few do! Streaming unicorns get 50. We’ll never know again what 100 episodes feel like or what is like to grow with characters.
Totally, me too.
We had show that start in September and end in may. I miss that so much. Uncoupled was cute but it’s 8 really shorts episodes, we don’t have time to fall in love with the characters, not so long ago sitcom had 24 episodes per season, Uncoupled had lot of potential and would have probably works if we had time to get attached.
I am very disappointed. I loved the first season.
I am more interested in his Doctor Who appearance.
Noooooooo!!!!!!
Dang it!
I can’t believe that they have cancelled!! I’m from Brazil and I was waiting for Seasons 2. This is an outrageous to the fans of Neal and Tisha, who’s was AMAZING in that role!!
Once again Netflix gets you invested in a show and then cancels it. Very disappointing and no real ending.
It’s getting really irritating to have them do this over and over again. This was a great show, especially compared to all the other drivel that all the networks try to shove down our throats.
I totally agree!
