Showtime won’t be coming to Uncoupled‘s rescue after all. The cabler has opted not to move forward with a second season of Neil Patrick Harris‘ divorce comedy, which it previously saved after it was first canceled by Netflix, our sister site Deadline reports.
Uncoupled followed NPH as New York City real estate agent Michael Lawson, who suddenly found himself single after being unceremoniously dumped by longtime boyfriend Colin McKenna. The comedy’s eight-episode first (and now only) season ended with Colin returning to their apartment and telling Michael that he made a huge “mistake.”
“We enjoy painting ourselves into a corner,” executive producer Jeffrey Richman told TVLine of Michael and Colin’s open-ended final encounter.
Other finale twists (that will now remain open-ended) included Michael’s coworker Suzanne coming face to face with her son’s father for the first time since college; Michael’s best friend Stanley revealing that he has breast cancer; and Billy, the group’s resident “fun one,” deciding that it’s time to get serious about love and life.
In addition to NPH, Uncoupled also starred Tuc Watkins as Colin, Tisha Campbell as Suzanne, Brooks Ashmanskas as Stanley, Emerson Brooks as Billy and Marcia Gay Harden as Claire.
The show was executive-produced by creators Richman and Darren Star, as well as NPH and Lilly Burns. Star also produces Emily in Paris for Netflix, which has already been renewed for a fourth season.
Seriously? This show was amazing. I am so disappointed that it’s been cancelled. (Again).
So, I was just about to comment under this post that the TV industry gets weirder every day now that shopped shows are getting the axe after being rescued. But then that series Three Women came to my mind that Showtime got rid of just for Starz to pick it up…so I googled that show…and apparently it was very randomly released on the Austrailian streamer Stan, like 2-3 months ago…with Starz yet to announce any kind of release date. I love it when things make sense! Anyway, I’m gonna miss Uncoupled. RIP.
I enjoyed the first (and only) season! This is too bad.
Don’t renew if your not going to follow thru. Networks have no respect for their viewers.
100% agree. Why announce it unless it is a done deal. Stop toying with viewers emotions. Networks need to realise that all their BS of later is driving people away from watching shows until they already have a second season.
NPH deserves to be a lead in a normal role for once.
If they turn around and do this to Snowpiercer heads will roll.
Even worse they have no respect for the people they employ. All those people who thought they had a job that now don’t
I’m sorry that SHOWTIME decided against giving us Season 2 of Uncoupled. I really enjoyed this show! This ensemble cast were great together giving us laughter, tears, and enjoyment as we watched waiting to see their outcomes.
I’m guessing it dropped on Paramount+ to a resounding: meh.
Central Park West (1995–1996)
Grosse Pointe (2000–2001)
Miss Match (2003)
Kitchen Confidential (2005)
Runaway (2006)
Cashmere Mafia (2008)
GCB (2012)
Uncoupled (2022)
Central Park West and Grosse Pointe are literally two of my favorite shows!!
Oh, I missed Grosse Pointe.. It was when I realized that I was gay gay…
What is this list supposed to mean?
I’m thinking shows that Darren Star was involved with
Seriously? I thought it was already shoot or at least written. I’m so sad about this news
Well this sucks! I liked the show.
Nooooooo ! I was looking forward to it ! How can you get a faithful viewership when you keep canceling/un canceling/ rebooting / un rebooting / do 5 episodes etc… ? This agressive new market is no fun.
What an incredibly bad decision by Showtime. This deserved a 2nd season, and have been anxious to see what was to come. Now, not only are the viewers disappointed, but once again, these hard working actors are out of another job. I don’t really think the network ever gave Uncoupled a fair chance to shine. What a shame…
What a joke! Get us all excited and then let us down.
How was this a rescue?
It’s more like a double sword if you ask me
Definitely worse than being cancelled
Show was really awful. Tisha Campbell’s characters story was the only interesting story. It’s not like an aging Doogie needs the coin.
