Netflix is putting away its Viking gear.
Vikings: Valhalla, an offshoot of History’s Vikings series, will conclude with its upcoming third season, which is slated to debut in 2024 on the streamer, IGN reports.
“I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald and Freydis,” creator Jeb Stuart said in a statement to IGN. “I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today and we have done just that.”
“I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes,” Stuart continued. “When we started this project five years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying.”
“Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense story-wise for our Leif, Freydis and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season,” Stuart explained, adding, “And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history.”
Set in the early 11th century, the spinoff chronicles “the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived, Leif Eriksson, his sister, Freydis and the Norwegian prince Harald Sigurdsson,” per the official synopsis. The forthcoming episodes pick up seven years after the conclusion of Season 2, with Freydis “now the undisputed leader of pagan Jomsborg,” while “Leif and Harald have achieved glory in Constantinople. But greater challenges lie ahead in order for each to reach their ultimate destiny.”
Joining the cast for Season 3 is Goran Visnjic (ER, Timeless) as Erik the Red, the legendary Viking father of Leif Eriksson and Freydis, who is living in exile in Greenland for crimes he committed in Iceland and Norway. Get a first look at his character below.

Wow another Netflix show ending after three seasons. At least it will get a proper finally hopefully
I have mixed feelings. I really enjoy the show. But I found the original Vikings lost steam along the way and probably should have ended sooner than it did. So it might be a good thing that Valhalla is ending after 3 seasons.
4 is always a better number than 3. It’s unfortunate. I love those 3 characters so much!
I am so sorry to see it coming to its conclusion as I have so enjoyed my Vikings! I understand, just hate to see the end, Just so loved every minute ! Will hope to see another series of Vikings brought to life!
If this is the show that made a black female a viking warrior, then I can understand why. The History channel might not have been 100% historically accurate but they did try for most of their seasons. There comes a time when you push things so far that people can’t suspend their disbelief and it becomes boring and lame. The final seasons on History they pushed the girl power thing too much, which was unfortunate because they already had a good diversity of female characters including homemakers, mothers,, warriors and women in leadership rolls. They messed it up by going overboard with the female viking assemble scenes and story arcs. I like time period shows, especially this age, but only when they stay as accurate as possible. Otherwise what’s the point of it being a time piece if you’re just going to inject modern day crap into it? Unfortunate.
You’re talking about Jarl Haakon in the series. You’re getting upset over a character that is loosely based off the male Jarl Haakon. So first they changed the character from male to female and then they made her a minority character **gasp**.
Yet there are many references to black vikings in the past, considering that vikings made it to Northern Africa and brought black slaves with them, and many had children with vikings making their children bi-racial vikings. There are references to black vikings in historical texts, so it’s not really something to get riled up over.
Your argument about them not being accurate is kind of funny considering you’re more upset about her being a black woman than anything else. Also, Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla hasn’t been the most accurate show historically. They might take names of characters, but they most certainly gave them their own twists and made up history. So weird that women and black women upset you the most though.
