By the time Agatha All Along lands on Disney+ this September, it will have been several years since the WandaVision spinoff formally began brewing at the streamer. Understandably, then, it’s “very surreal” for series star Kathryn Hahn to at last be promoting the series ahead of its fall release.
“It really is a very surreal chapter that’s starting for us,” Hahn told TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich on the red carpet at Disney’s Upfront presentation on Tuesday. “It’s finally coming home to roost that we got to do this, that we got to do it with this group of people, and that hopefully it’s as special [to watch] as it was making it. It certainly felt crackly and special and fantastic [during production].”
In the video above, Hahn (who will be back as Agatha Harkness in the offshoot) and co-star Patti LuPone (who plays witch Lilia Calderu) tease what they can about the project — it’s Marvel, after all! — namely the “amazing mixture” of drama, comedy and horror that make up Agatha All Along‘s tone.
“It is hilarious, but it also goes very surprisingly deep,” Hahn shares, when asked how the spinoff compares to WandaVision‘s unique style. “It’s very sophisticated. I think everyone’s going to respond to it and maybe grab hold of something that they really — like in WandaVision — weren’t expecting.”
Agatha All Along — which appears to be the series’ very final title, after three years of other contenders — kicks off with a two-episode premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Watch our full Q&A above to get more of Hahn and LuPone’s hints about the show, including how Agatha might break the spell Wanda cast on her in WandaVision‘s finale, and whether Marvel fans should keep their eyes peeled for any special cameos.
I adore both actresses but seriously why is this show happening??
Agatha Harkness is a major Marvel character dating back to the mid 1960s. The show also appears to be used to introduce Wiccan, who in at least some versions of the multiverse is the son of the Scarlet Witch. That would also mean the show is a necessary precursor to the long rumoured Young Avengers project.
and more supernatural characters from the comics to the MCU
That’s a hard pass. Nobody asked for this.
Oh, you speck for everybody do you, nice to know.
WandaVision was one of the better Marvel T.V shows. As a spin off from that show…
I will give this a try but not expecting to be blowen away by it. Disney seem far more interested in ticking boxes than telling stories. This is also true for their films over the last two years. Which is why Disney lost so much money last two years.
Still Xmen 97 was far better than expected, so Disney can still tell good stories if they put the effort into it.
almost everybody asked for this, they just asked for it back in 2021 when WandaVision first aired.
Speak for yourself. She was really impressive in WandaVision, and there’s no reason not to give it a try.
I’d also like to point out that a lot of what MCU fans did loudly ask for and did get excited for turned out to be a bit of a dud. What makes something good isn’t just being something fans yelled for, it’s what the creatives have brought to the table. Y’all are quick to forget how excited “everyone” was for things like Secret Invasion — it was going to be the “gritty and real, MCU saving most perfect whatever blah blah blah” and then it was garbage. Fan buzz and what the guys on your toxic FB group are gasping for has NOTHING to do with whether something will be good.
The people who say that they don’t need this show only goes to show how they don’t know the importance of Agatha is in the next chapter of Marvel especially with the Young Avengers and Fantastic Four. There was never going to be a world where they won’t deepen her character as she leans toward becoming an antihero then the “nana” of all the powerful beings in Marvel.
I’m a casual Marvel. I’m aware of what’s happening but not knowledgeable on the history or importance of any of it.
To me, this series is released way too late after Wandavision, either from COVID or other production necessities. As my interest in MCU wanes overall, I’ll still watch this because I thoroughly enjoyed Wandavision and the innovative storytelling that series used that hasn’t been seen since (again, to me) in the Marvel TV branch. I’m also prepared to stop watching after the premiere if it doesn’t hook me in, so we’ll see.
WandaVision and Liki were the only Disney Marvel series I watched and WandaVision is great! I’m really excited for Agatha.
