Chicago P.D.: Upton’s Final Run Will Be a ‘Big Season of Growth and Change’ — 2024 FIRST LOOK (Exclusive)
Chicago P.D.‘s Upton (played by Tracy Spiridakos) will be going through it in her final days with Intelligence.
The detective looks serious as ever in the above exclusive photo from the Season 11 premiere, airing Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 10/9c on NBC.

The season opener, titled “Unpacking,” will see Upton tasked with shadowing a crisis prevention team, where she finds her “approach to policing at odds with the team’s mental health clinician,” per the episode’s synopsis. The case will bring out Upton’s “personal struggles,” with Voight standing by her.
Showrunner Gwen Sigan reveals that Season 11 is “a big season of growth and change for Hailey Upton.”
“We find her at the start of this season in a precarious place; wanting to move her life forward after finally taking off her ring, finding that it’s more difficult than she’d like,” the Chicago P.D. boss explains. “There’s a lot she still has to confront in herself and doesn’t necessarily know how to do so.”
Spiridakos is set to leave the Dick Wolf procedural this upcoming season, although an exact date for her exit has not yet been revealed. The actress first appeared in Season 4 in a recurring capacity before joining the squad full-time in Season 5.
Season 10, which wrapped up in May, saw Upton struggling with her husband Jay Halstead’s (played by Jesse Lee Soffer) abrupt departure in the season’s third episode. After heading to Bolivia to track the worst cartel targets, Halstead had stopped returning her calls and neglected to tell her that he extended his stay.

When is she *not* going through it? I wish Upton happiness for her last season. Will be so sad to see her go.
Well that sounds like more of the same/same for her.
At least we will find out about Ruzek’s fate so that’s something to look forward to.
Like to see Hank and or Atwater find love. I thought Upton and Jay were perfect for each other. I miss seeing Jay. Is he coming back? I love this show. It got me watching Chicago Fire. Another great show.

What?!?! Out of all the issues and things that need to change on the show your biggest concern is them adding a gay character? Wow
I’d like to see the show get backward into sobbing cases… And the show get more sunrise in what they did best as a unit… They had such great characters as a team and a family… Less sorrow and drama individualized.. You have such great talented actors and actresses and great raiders. Let’s not bog down the show as a Soap…

Will be sad to see Hailey leave, shes been a great source in the show, losing gd characters is gard, especially when you get so use to them..as long as hank don’t go I’m happy, he’s my man lol..
Hopefully she can fix a few things in herself and then be able to help Jay. Maybe they write her out going over to work with that unit instead of intelligence? With her background and helping people, especially kids, she may find a new calling there. I just hope for a happy ending for Hailey and Jay.
What unit? Jay is in the U.S military in Bolivia.

I couldn’t stand her hoarse voice–made me keep wanting to clear my throat. Reportedly, she was written out of the show because she couldn’t stand Chicago’s winters. Wonder that’s why there are so many “One Chicago” departures? Our climate isn’t for the faint of heart.
That is not why she left . She left due to the anger issues of Jason Beghe and making set toxic and them not doing anything about it

Nothing but an Upstead reunion is acceptable. CPD writers need to take a page out of ER’s and Chicago Med’s books and give their best couple the happy ending they (and the fans!) deserve.
I want that as well, but I don’t think we are getting a happy ending there. There was an Instagram picture of the Chicago PD cast and guess who was in it, Nick Gehlfuss. Why would Dr. Halstead be back in Chicago and visiting the Chicago PD set? The only 2 reasons that make any sense are: 1) Jay returns, Upstead rekindles their relationship and they renew their wedding vows with Wil and the Intelligence Unit in attendance before Hailey leaves Chicago with Jay or 2) Jay was killed in action and he is there for Jay’s funeral. Tell me which direction you think hey are going in. Of course I could be wrong and it could be something else entirely.
Nick lives in Chicago and still close to the crew and friends with most of the pd cast . And if it’s the pic I’m thinking about it , they were hosting a charity event

I don’t watch it anymore because of all the departures, haven’t watched since 2019

I hope to see Hailey healing from all the trauma she bas endured. Her working on herself, just as Jay is doing. And ultimately I hope she finds her way back to Jay as a healthy, strong individual that knows how to receive love. Upstead deserves a happy ending

With Hailey gone, I truly hope that Kevin and Dante will be given MORE screen time and better storylines to work with. Both are criminally underused. Enough with Kim and her PTSD & her indecisive mind.

Don’t need a fake happily ever after for Hailey & Jay. He ghosted the supposed love of his life, left her feeling sad and lonely. A dog has more loyalty! I would like her to chuck Jay & the job and do something that brings a smile to her beautiful face. Good luck. Wished much happiness in your future.
I’m so over Upton!!! I want to know if Adam is alive. I want Kevin to have a life besides work. Torres has been a great addition to the show. Why the writers decided to absolutely destroy Hailey’s character and almost destroy Kim’s is beyond me. Once Hailey’s gone, I hope we never have to see or hear from Upstead again!!!
Sooner she leaves the better Upton is a complete energy vampire. Hopefully Atwater, Kim, and Ruzek assuming he survived being shot get promoted to detectives finally.
I would like to see ex Det Jay Halstead make an appearance during season 11 to support his wife through her trauma. His presence is noticeably missing from the Intelligence Unit since Jesse Lee Soffer left early in season 10.
Don’t want to lose anyone else. We l9st enough good ones. Would love to see her stay and Jesse come back.
It seems that a lot of major characters are leaving the longest running shows, some of them have only one or two original characters left and that means they probably are going to be gone soon. Marina Squerciati and Tracy Spiridakos are two of my favorite characters on this show, the female characters are both tough, but manage to show a level of compassion the male actors just can’t seem to pull off. While I wish she wouldn’t leave, I hope they can find a replacement that does her justice.
Ruzek should lose weight
Not going to happen. She all but straight up accused the actor who plays Voigt of being inappropriate on the set.
Superficial fat-shaming! In real life, not all (nor even most) cops are slender or even “normal” weight. All that stress causes release of cortisol, which leads to abdominal fat deposits (“central obesity”). It also raises blood pressure; and duty schedules usually make a healthy diet difficult-to-impossible (not even talking about the stereotype of “cops & donuts”). That in turn increases cardiovascular disease risk, which explains a higher rate of heart attacks among first responders as they age, compared to the general population.

That’s often what happens when the longest part of an actor’s career (especially relatively earlier in that career) is a multi-season major role in a long-running hit show. The fear of being typecast is real (and sometimes justified) for many. At least in the minds of many dedicated fans of a particular show (and actor), it’s difficult to view an actor in any other role going forward.
So glad she is leaving. Hope they get a more interesting character to replace her.
I want to see more shows highlighting Atwater in some way. He’s great and has been neglected far too long.
I love this show, my favorite fictional cop show, I think bought is a great actor and producer, but as far as Haley leaving I have no complaints, she’s cool, but can be easily replaced, I do wish Jay would come back tho, he was a big part of that show, Adam needs to go, Kim stays in his head too much, and it looks like she doesn’t even really want him like that
