Tanks for RSVPing to Chicago Fire‘s fish store wedding!
In Wednesday’s episode, which marks Kara Killmer‘s final one as Sylvie Brett, the paramedic freaks out about her fishy wedding venue. Maid of Honor Violet promises to take charge and make Brett and Matt Casey’s nuptials into the “the best fish store wedding ever!” Even a shirtless Carver only temporarily distracts her from her mission of ordering all the flowers in town. She does, however, take a moment to reconsider going to the wedding with Carver. Now that it’s in a fish store, she supposes it would be no big deal for them to be each other’s dates, and Carver agrees.
Meanwhile, Brett frets about how she’s going to break the news to her fiancé. Mouch suggests couching the news with “tanks” puns (see above). But Brett needn’t have worried, because Casey shows up at the firehouse and declares that he doesn’t care where they get married as long as it’s the two of them there. (As if even-keeled Casey was ever going to get upset about the venue!)
Casey, does, however notice that his Best Man is missing. Cruz relays the fake story that Stella gave him about Severide’s flight being delayed after he didn’t answer her texts. Severide finally calls her and explains that there was a problem on the freeway, so he was late to the airport, and when he did get on a flight, there was no service. Stella asks where he is now, and it turns out to be much closer to home than she expected. Severide enters behind her, and the two share a passionate reunion kiss. In the afterglow, Severide assures her that it was always the plan for him to come home.
“I wasn’t sure,” Stella admits.
“I was,” Severide reiterates. “I love you, Stella Kidd.”
Severide doubles down on his feelings during a classic cigar chat with Casey, sharing that he loves fire investigation, but he never lost sight of the end goal, which was coming home to Stella. Severide recalls a conversation he once had with Casey that he’s been thinking about lately, where Casey told him the firehouse needs him and he needs it, too. Casey then remarks on how far they’ve come, from single bachelors to lucky guys in love.
“It feels permanent somehow, when you leave this time,” Severide says.
The chat is interrupted by a call, which ends up with Sylvie treating a criminal at gunpoint. When he isn’t looking, she spritzes him in the eye and races away just as Casey runs in and knocks the guy to the floor.
“I wasn’t going to miss my own wedding!” she tells a relieved Casey. On the upside, there was a cancelled bridal expo at the call, and the firehouse crew is able to get the flowers for the wedding.
At last, Casey and Brett are at the altar, with Boden officiating and declaring that the couple is goodness and kindness personified, but not the most savvy at realizing what everybody else already knew: that they should have gotten married a long time ago.
Casey goes first with his vows:
“Getting here to this place was the toughest battle of my life. It was worth every moment because we’re here now. You are my port in the storm. The most generous, caring person I’ve ever known, and sometimes, the most stubborn… We were apart too long. Now I promise that you’ll never be alone. I will always be by your side, and that this, two of us together, it’s a fire that will never go out. I had to get a fire metaphor in there somewhere.”
Sylvie’s vows reveal the reason she wanted to get married at the aquarium:
“Years ago, you and I took Amelia to go and see the fishes there, do you remember? What you probably don’t know is that is when I realized that you are the only man for me. The way you were with her, I knew you were born to be a father. And when you decided to be a father to the Darden boys, it only made me love you more, even though I was trying so hard to let you go, and I couldn’t. Like you said, we were meant to be. We were meant to be a family.”
With that, Boden pronounces them “husband and wife and a family.”
At the reception at Molly’s, Brett says an emotional goodbye to Violet and Stella (“I will never in my life have a partner I will love this much,” Violet tearfully says), while Casey promises Severide that he’ll be back soon. The couple then get into their caution tape-decorated car with baby Julia and the rest of their family as their friends cheer them off into their happily ever after.
Elsewhere in the episode:
* Violet tells Carver at the wedding reception that she won’t survive something bad happening again to someone she really cares about. What Carver hears is that she really cares about him, then replies that it’s a good thing nothing bad is going to happen to him, especially while they dance.
* In other Violet news, the paramedic is promoted to PIC. But with that, comes new headaches from the tough new paramedic field chief, who declares that she will be picking Violet’s new partner, and no, she won’t be taking any recommendations from Violet.
* Kylie volunteers to help Chief Boden with a backlog of paperwork. She admits to Gibson that she misses 51, and he urges her to tell Chief if she wants to transfer to 51. But there’s no space at 51, Kylie notes. Gibson says she should still tell him.
Chicago Fire fans, what did you think of Brett’s farewell and the long-awaited wedding? Grade the episode, then hit the comments!
Why is there always an uptight, annoying, pain in peoples’ butts person in charge? Now we have to deal with the Paramedic Field Chief?
I did enjoy the wedding and thought it was very sweet when Syvie thanked Tony and he said that he told her it was magical.
Probably because this PBC knows the story of Violet and the previous one.
My question: Where was Cruz’s wife?
Evan, I was wondering the same thing, also Brian their child? I saw Cruz & Javi but not Chloe & Brian.
Both their kids were there. The older one was calling the other Otis.
I was wondering the same thing. And where was ‘Cap”. He and Tony are always together
Capp was there. He was seated during the wedding while Tony was standing next to his cousin and then you saw Capp at the reception.
Here’s betting the new paramedic will be some total pain – dumped on Violet by the new chief – and 51 will have to find a way to get rid of the them – before a permanent replacement is added to the cast.
I’ve dealt with people just like the Paramedic chief in real life. It’s never pleasant. Best to just follow orders and stay out of their way. You can speak up, but it a waste of your energy. Usually, most of these types don’t wind up where they want to go in the long run.
I’m really going to miss Sylvie!! I love the friendships between the women on this show. Still wish she wasn’t leaving. She’ll be hard to replace.
Sad to see Kara go. I don’t like the paramedic field chief. She is mean and rude. I hope they get a hot guy to replace Sylvie. Like Evan was.
Me too, I hope so too but I don’t think Sam Craver will be comfortable with Violet working with another man other than him.
Violet hugging Sylvie goodbye got me. That wasn’t acting. Those two are clearly close friends in real life.
Precious was the highlight of the wedding sitting on KiKidd’s lap. Anyway loving wedding those vows exspecialy Brett was very tear jerky yes Sylvie Brett you most definitely couldn’t let go of Matt Casey you were and still is always inlove with him. No matter how hard you’ve tried to get over him by trying to date some man no other could replace Matt Casey in your heart not even Dylan or Granger. Boy that was a close call for Sylvie Brett glad Matt Casey was listening on in that call and came to Sylvie Brett’s resuse just in time with a relief Violet in the background. I was relief too.
Curious as to why Cruz’s Chloe wasn’t at the wedding?
I still miss Casey, and now will miss Brett, but am so glad they finally got married. Beautiful episode ❤️
Any news on who will replace Kara Killmer?

Damn Javi got so tall!!! I loved it. It truly was magical and to have the reception at Molly’s was the perfect cake on top.
I’m gonna miss Brett! Happy Violet is gonna be the PIC and God I hope this pain in the arse Paramedic Chief loosens up her bitches or screws up royally and gets fired.
Why do the writers have to have another woman in charge act like a bitch? Shows women in a bad light.
I loved the farewell wedding of Casey and Brett!
I will miss them on Fire so much.
Cap was there, just not prominent. When Brett thanks Tony you’ll see Cap sitting in front of him
Loved it! I’m not even someone who cries at weddings, but between Matt running to help Sylvie; seeing baby Julia, Javi (so tall!) and Trudy; and the lovely ceremony, I was a blubbering mess. Add in the perfect Stellaride scenes and the growing relationship with Violet & Carver and it was an A+ episode for me. I’ll miss Kara Kilmer, but this was a flawless send-off.
Chicago fire best damn show on television..love that show….
Did anyone else think it was weird that Matt and Sylvie walked down the aisle together? I know they can’t squeeze in everything, but the show couldn’t have cast a couple of folks with just a line or two to play her parents? No way Sylvie wouldn’t have her dad walk her down the aisle…
Otherwise the wedding was great- loved the fish store and all the guests that were there (although where was Chloe Cruz?). Amelia hanging out in the back by the fish tanks was adorable! Glad Sylvie explained the meaning behind the aquarium venue and that she thanked poor Tony. The vows were sweet and exactly captured their adorkable selves. The reception was also fun. So sad to see Kara Killmer go, but it was the perfect sendoff and wrap-up of her character’s story.
One last un-wedding-related thought: the Severide arson angst has to stop from Kidd…such an overreaction when she doesn’t hear from him immediately after her initial texts. Chill out.
Sure, lots of people weren’t there. No Chloe, no Boden’s wife or kid, Matt’s sister, Matt’s mom, Sylvie’s adoptive parents, Amelia’s father, just to name a few. Foster. But they only have so much budget per episode, after all.
There was a time when shows would do a few episodes each season on a lower budget–bottle episodes with no or fewer location shoots, new sets, or guest actors or even clip shows–in order to afford an episode or two with a lot guests, locations, sets, or special effects. We don’t see that much. Maybe Grey’s does it. These days, a few lower budget episodes are just baked into the season with the rest just being normal eps.
I’m sorry but I can’t agree with the budget argument or even actor or actress availability argument😤😤😤😤!!!! Not having Matt’s Sister ( Christie ) and Niece ( Violet ), Sylvie’s Adoptive Brother, Emily Foster and Olivia not being there among others ( Peter Mills even though it would’ve been awkward and some of Sylvie’s past partners on 61 ) that have so affected Matt’s and Sylvie’s lives at 51 and their love story is just unforgivable to me😤😤😤😤💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭!!!! As much as I really enjoyed Their Wedding Episode, I just wish more of them could’ve been there and thing that bothers me the most ( The Wedding Venue )😤😤😤😤💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭!!!! I just believe Matt and Sylvie deserved better💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭!!!! One other thing, couldn’t they have come up with a more original way to put Sylvie’s life in danger? They’ve done her being held at gun point to many times over the years!!!! Overall I absolutely loved the Episode but still could’ve been better!!!! Hope they can comeback back and visit soon and often with their current and future children🤰🤰🤰🤰❤️❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏!!!! Brettsey Forever💒💒💒💒💍💍💍💍🌹🌹🌹🌹🏡🏡🏡🏡🤰🤰🤰🤰❤️❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭😭!!!!
Well what’s his name wife wasn’t there for Serride and Kidd’s wedding remember? Anyway I don’t like the new Chef she reminds me of that nurse in the movie John Q remember her that actress that plays her that died Anyway her. I don’t like just because she make have knew what Violet and Evan Hawkins had done doesn’t give her the right to be rude, cruel and mean towards Violet Chef Borden needs to hear about her and fast
She was just concerned about Serride wondering what was going on with him if he was trying to ghost her again. Wouldn’t you be worried
Severide was Casey’s Best Man, folks. Stella had this reason as well to wonder where he was. Given Severide’s past behavior, Stella being concerned about him NOT answering her texts was justified.
This time he had a seemingly good explanation but he has treated Stella, his new wife at the time he first left without contacting her for months (OK, she did the same to him when she was away but they are MARRIED now.) badly in the past.
The show has NOT handled the situation with Taylor Kinney taking time off. It never really made sense to me that he would, as a relative newlywed, just take off, unless they were trying to say : Yeah, he is just like his unreliable father.” But he isn’t and it’s crazy confusing when they go/back and forth with him. Seems like has some other bigger issue.
This was a great send off for Kara and the character of Brett. My only gripe in an otherwise perfect episode was I wish we saw a scene with Matt, Sylvie and Julia.
Why was there a car seat in the car they left in?
That was Julia they put in the car. You can see Ben and Griffin in the car as well as they leave. They all leave as one big happy family!
Then who was the little girl in the ceremony who was standing and clapping (I think she was clapping)? She looked about 2-3 years old. That would be a better age for Julia than the tiny baby in the car seat, wouldn’t it? That’s why I thought it was confusing.
I believe that was Sylvie’s little sister Amelia. She was born a few seasons ago when Sylvie met her birth mother
I don’t understand why it was just an OK wedding for two people who had been there day long time and had waited this long to get together. I don’t think that was very much respect for them and people absolutely love them. So I think it should have been longer waiting for them and not about the people around them who are telling each other they love each other. It should’ve been all about Casey and Brett And nothing more
That’s how you show wedding beteew two main characters. Blue Bloods really missed this when Jamie and Eddie got mattied. They need to show some memories of their ceremony.
OK here I go again…I absolutely hate Violet with Carver. I will never understand why after that whole season of Hawkins and Violet and what they went through to be together that they killed him off!!! That was the best storyline for this show in many years. I’m done.
I wondered if the end game was Gallo before they know he wanted to leave. I really wish they hadn’t killed Evan off. I liked them together, and the actor is hot.
This was such a sweet episode! I am so happy that Matt and Sylvie got their happy ending and they are leaving to Portland with their family. I wish we had more with Matt and Sylvie as a couple because I enjoyed every moment they were onscreen together, I just wish we had a family scene of them.
Sylvie will be missed, she has been one of my favorites and I wish Kara all the best with where her path leads her too. I hope we do get some drop ins from Matt and Sylvie in future episodes.
To see Casey and Severide smoking cigars outside the firehouse reminded me that those two together made the heart and soul of the show, just like Alan Alda was that for M*A*S*H. As much as I look forward to the new paramedic, what the show needs most is someone (or ones) to keep the heart and soul going.
Perfect ending to the series.
I’m happy to check out at this point. There is no cliffhangers or relationship drama that I need to keep watching for.
Matt was a hero one more time saving Sylvie, even though she was smart enough to get away.
It was a nice wedding. Good speeches and nice goodbyes at the end, although I feel there were a couple of goodbyes that didn’t make the final edit (Boden and Herman) which was too bad.
Overall a good episode.
The show didn’t end. Just one actress left.
Glad they’re gone. Never bought them as a couple because what about Dawson and SHAY was such a great character.
It’s going to be disappointing not to have Brett and Casey routinely as part of each episode. Hoping they’ll be included as time goes on, even if it’s just their visit from Portland to 51. Would like to see what happens with their ready-made family.
Where was Chloe & the ‘baby’ Brian? I saw Cruz & Javi but not Chloe & Brian.
Where was Cap?
Seeing Brett, and Casey, back together, at House 51, with all the Firehouse fam, you couldn’t have done it any better. That show carried me thru a lot of troubled times. Great series..👀
I feel like Gibson’s unhappy and will make way for Kylie. I don’t think he feels he can say anything though… he just wants to clock in and clock out like one of the extras who fill out the truck and engine rosters.
Enjoyed the wedding but why does everything on this show have to be so complicated. Also tired of the old story line about all new characters have to be difficult. New paramedic chief is a real turn off to watching the show.
Have I missed something!!! Where was Donna??? Where has she been???
As long as the fans had to wait for this episode it should have been better. As far as I am concerned it was a big let down. But that’s that.
