Rachel’s boss has officially entered the chat.
After ominous foreshadowing, Tuesday’s episode of Quantum Leap finally introduced Gideon Ridge, the mysterious mogul who Ian had partnered with out of desperation to find Ben. Gideon, played by James Frain, was the only person with the money and access to make the quantum chip, which was instrumental in locating Ben, who went missing for three years.
Star Trek: Discovery fans will recognize Frain as Spock’s father Sarek in Seasons 1 and 2 of the sci-fi drama. Additional TV credits for the actor include Elementary, Orphan Black, Gotham, True Blood, The Tudors and 24.
At the end of this week’s Quantum Leap, a panicked Rachel warned Ian that Gideon, after finding out what they were up to, was coming. But that wasn’t enough time to prepare the team for the man who casually strolled in and introduced himself as though Jenn hadn’t described him earlier as “the last person any hacker wants to tangle with.”
“She’s fine. I told her I wasn’t upset,” Gideon assured with a chuckle. “I totally get it. Water… bridge…”
The gang had plenty reason to be wary of the guy in the grey suit and white Converse sneakers. In Episode 6, he sent his associate Simone to blackmail Ian into giving up classified information about the Quantum Leap program in exchange for keeping the quantum chip running. Jenn and Ian thwarted Simone’s efforts to force their hand, and enlisted Rachel’s help in Episode 7 to create a software patch that overrode the chip so they could continue tracking Ben without leaking additional data.
But now, the cat’s out off the bag. And while Gideon was all smiles, we definitely caught the menacing look in his eyes as he greeted Ian. This can’t be good.
Hope the show gets renewed. Another fantastic episode.
Agreed, but it’s very frustrating to see the show has lost close to half it’s live viewers due to the timeslot change. Hopefully it’s being made up for by streaming and +7 watches.
I don’t understand why Ian couldn’t confide in Magic!!! Now the situation is way worse. Also, I was really hoping that Addison would elope because I don’t want her back with Ben. But at the same time Tom brings nothing to the show, so from the QL team or audience will miss him??
Gideon seems like an intimidating villain. It’s going to be interesting to see what his ultimate goal is. Perhaps to conquer time itself?
It would be an interesting twist if Gideon were actually Hannah’s son Jeffrey. Maybe Ben’s letter to Hannah isn’t able to save Josh, but then Hannah tells Jeffrey about Ben at some later point. Gideon/Jeffrey might then become obsessed with learning about Project Quantum Leap so that he can go back in time and prevent his father’s death.
Now that is an interesting theory & would provide a good motive for Gideon.
I seriously hope that THIS series Ben finds a way to get home… it was a huge detriment to the original – totally frustrating open-ended series like “Lost is Space” although I supposed if he did finally get home, that would be the end of the series….UNLESS they write a script where his leap was explained and then can be controlled. C’mon writers, you’ve been “on vacation” for months… now you can all come up with a few ORIGINAL ideas?
Wonderful episode that seems to set in motion the endgame for this season. QL (both series) have always been great at tackling important topics within an entertaining show and it’s one of the reasons a show like this has a place on TV, even if the ratings aren’t the best. Plus, I loved seeing the Mexican town backlot and flash flood effect from Universal Studios Hollywood’s backlot tour in the episode.
I noticed that myself. It was great to see that. 1
To me.. Frain’s role on Orphan Black was his biggest in the Sci Fi area… Wish we could see more from that world…
Hope the QL world continues next fall… Last night’s ep was fun… I am waiting for a Leap into a trans/bi now….
The treasure hunt aspect of the episode was also fun. Just a great episode all around.
NBC needs to renew this show. It’s a shame the ratings have been low.
Quantum Leap has just disappeared from Paramount Plus UK subscription without any out facing notification at the beginning of Feb 2024. Paramount just say withdrawals can happen at any time as per Terms of Conditions.
I don’t know if I could be reaching or not but one line from Ben’s new love interest peaked my curiosity. Referring to her son she mention how brilliantly smart he was. If I was as sharp as I always had hoped to be I would have paid closer attention to the timelines better. Could that smart young boy be related to Ben? And if so could Sam have offspring lurking in any timeline that he experienced. Where is Sam now?
I know Frain from his time on The Cape, he was great on that.
.
This ep was a lot of fun, although the anti-woke crowd is undoubtedly crying into their Bud Light right now.
Bravo writers. The best episode of the season: Loved the clues to the treasure. One of our group at worked loved Ian’s new look. Best of all loved the development of the Addison-Ben relationship.(all 12 of us are waiting for Ben and Addison to get back together at the end of the season. Writers are driving us crazy with the rollercoaster script. Addison is going to elope with Tom (Boo!) Then at the end she backs away and wants time to think (Yay! if Ben and Addison get together at the end). Tom shows his true colors (is all sympathetic to give Addison time but NOT if she actually decides she needs time. Then he gets angry. The new baddy was unexpected and opens the universe of possible new endings. But Please Please all 12 of us here are insisting on an ending with Ben and Addison coming back together for LOVE TRIUMPHANT.
he’ll end up being hannah’s son
