Let’s be honest: We all knew Young Sheldon‘s Missy was going to be A-OK after she took the keys to George’s truck and hightailed it out of Medford. [pmc_inline_gallery]
During Thursday’s episode, Missy and troubled teen prodigy Paige (recurring guest star Mckenna Grace) hit the open road, Thelma & Louise-style. They made it five hours East before a cop pulled them over just outside Baton Rouge, La., and alerted George, Mary and Linda to come pick them up.
It was on the drive to retrieve their daughters that Paige’s mom offered her two cents on George and Mary’s marital woes. She encouraged them not to keep stuff bottled up inside. That’s what she and Barry did, and their marriage ended in divorce. But the Coopers, who’d like to think they’ve got a better handle on their marriage than Barry and Linda did, told Linda that their relationship would not end in divorce. That’s when this morbid exchange occurred — an exchange that may very well foreshadow how the Powers that Be intend to wrap the Big Bang Theory prequel:
Mary: We’re not getting divorced.
George: Yeah, over my dead body!
Mary: Yeah, that’s exactly how it’s going to end.
Dark, right? 🪦
As for Missy, running away kinda-sorta worked in her favor. Once they retrieved their daughter, George and Mary assured Missy that they’d be laser-focused on her from now on. Shortly thereafter, our narrator jumped in and warned that his twin sister running away from home would only be the start of her rebellious phase.
“This marked the beginning of what our family would come to call ‘Missy’s difficult period,'” Adult Sheldon said. “Despite my repeated assurances that I could solve the problem with a brain scan and some low-voltage electroshocks, I was never given the opportunity. Such a shame.”
What did you think of Young Sheldon Season 6, Episode 16: “A Stolen Truck and Going on the Lam”? Sound off in Comments.
Fun Fact: Paige’s mom is Sherry from That 90s Show.
Fun Fact 2: She´s Ted Lasso´s wife
Fun Fact 3: Andrea Anders was Joey Tribiani´s love interest in Joey and Matt LeBlanc´s real life ex girlfriend.
She was also on Better Off Ted. I miss that show. Such an under appreciated comedy.
And Matthew Perry’s love interest in Mr Sunshine.
Real life ex wife not ex girlfriend
I immediately thought the same thing – finally, we know what happens to George. Great episode.
If you watched the Big Bang Theory, you already knew George is going to die of a heart attack. The more interesting possibility here is that maybe Linda is the one that George cheats on Mary with rather than Brenda.
That might be a good way to go, especially since everyone was SO CERTAIN that the night at the bar with George and Brenda was setting up “The Affair.”
I would prefer having George walk in on Mary and Pastor Rob.
Mary is protesting way too much. It is as if she wants George to have an affair with Brenda just so she can feel some relief of her own guilt for her feelings toward Pastor Rob.
Pastor Rob gives off sleezebag vibes.
I like Missy and find Sheldon a real jerk. My son says he is supposed to be because he is a genius and doesn’t think he is the only person in the world. It is time Missy becomes the forerunner in this series at least for a while.
I liked this episode. Dad always gets shorted because he doesn’t care. He does but must face Mary’s wrath. No wonder the issues. Maybe God is showing her something. MeMaw is the best. I hate to see it end but want to see how it really ends. George’s death? Divorce?
I may have missed some episodes but never saw Mary’s hair after the cut.
Missy stories are typically a good watch… and Paige was a plus. Teenage Sheldon isn’t as fun to watch as his younger or older selves.
I agree, being a teenage girl is no picnic, and I felt bad for both Missy and Paige.
On a side note, I was shocked that Missy did not take her Caboodles with her-that would have been the first thing I would have grabbed!
As long as the focus of the show is no longer on Sheldon, it will be decent to watch. Any scenes involving Sheldon are unbearable now.
I agree! Just ship him off to California and focus on the rest of the family.
Anyone who disagrees is lying to themselves–including the writers and producers.
Couldn’t agree more. After 12 years of Sheldon on TBBT, I was worried that the character would be tiring on Young Sheldon. The first 4 seasons seeing him as a child refreshed the character, but the novelty of that has passed. Lain Armitage’s portrayal of Sheldon has become very wooden. This is not the actor’s fault because Sheldon becomes more robotic as he ages and it limits what the actor can do. I think Georgie, MeeMaw and Missy have been the more interesting characters for a while now and Mandy has fit in very well with them.
Yes! I agree about Sheldon. I enjoy the rest of the family much more. He’s has just turned into a know-it-all jerk.
The same know-it-all jerk that made TBBT difficult to watch at times.
I agree, now he is a jerk!
He’s well on his way to becoming the man who made Leonard sign a roommate agreement, has a schedule for the bathroom, and won’t let anyone else sit in his seat. Okay. Archie Bunker did that too. I find his scenes with the Grand Nagus, Dr. Ehrlich, and Victoria Chase to be pretty good. The family is just not the same foil to rude jerk Sheldon that Leonard, Penny, Howard, and Raj (sort of) were.
Agree. Sheldon had gotten more annoying and it’s not fun to watch.
I,Agree sometimes Sheldon does act like a know it all jerk
At his age, and given how smart he is supposed to be, he can’t cook his own bacon? Give me a break.
And that whole scene where he was trying to track Missy? Just brutal.
I don’t blame the child actor, he really is in a tough spot. The writing for that character should be so much better than it is.
As emotional as it was, I enjoyed it. I have been getting annoyed by both Sheldon & Mary. I blame Mary for what has happened to the family dynamic. Her holier-than-thow attitude destroyed them. She catered to Sheldon pushing other family members away. My favorites are Missy, Georgie, & MeeMaw!
I totally agree! Mary has been treating Sheldon like he’s her only child throughout his life. Always calling him “baby”, even now that he’s 13 years old. No wonder Sheldon is so self-centered. Mary is keeping him an only child by always catering to his selfish wants & needs. Basically ignoring Missy and Georgie. And the disrespectful and often mean way she treats her husband. Frankly, I wish George would just divorce her and move on to a happier life for himself!
The worst thing this season with “Young Sheldon” is Sheldon.
Typical Mary!!! She’s what some people would call hypocrites! No one is perfect, especially Mary! Jesus Christ says “ He who is without (perfect) sin, let him cast the first stone!! George isn’t perfect either, but he doesn’t pretend to be!
That’s always the convenient excuse, but Jesus followed that up by turning to the woman in question and saying “now go and sin no more.” Hypocrisy on the part of one doesn’t legitimize the behavior.
Who played the cop that picked up the girls? I can’t find her name anywhere. She looks so familiar but I can’t place her.
I believe it was Karen Malina White. I thought she was great.
I’d be surprised if there were any black female state troopers in Louisiana at that time.
1993?
I love young Sheldon! I understand that there are two things that pretty much shape the program: One is that we know Sheldon’s father dies from the Big Bang Theory and, Two, at some point it will become impossible to believe that “Young Sheldon” magically grows into “Big Bang Sheldon” I’ve been a fan of both shows, they have given me lots of laughs. But…I would be happier without the underlying discord between George and Mary. Their underlying discord makes me uncomfortable and sad.
Maybe because I was raised in a home with an alcoholic father and lived with discord, the threat of discord and at time all out war!
It’s about time Missy was front and center. Looking forward to how the family deals with George’s death
Since I was a BBT fan, I always knew George’s demise was imminent. At the start of each season, my late husband Jim would ask, “Do you think George dies this season.” Last season Sheldon mentioned how nice their dinner banter about physics was for him and how he wished he and his father shared more times like that. So, I too felt the enormity of Mary’s retort.
Pl
100%
Finally, focused on others in the household!!! George’s life has become very interesting, now finally Missy, so pleased the other family members are being shown……
Sheldon’s is still sickening,, please slap him!!! Somebody please slap him!!!
Amen to that! Teen Sheldon is so RUDE, CONDESCENDING, & SELF-CENTERED! And what’s with his rapid-fire, robotic delivery, anyway? We can never understand a word he is saying! Everybody on this show kow-tows to this kid, especially his college president & professors.. And of course, Mary. Ignoring her family in favor of her “baby”! More Missy & Georgie! Less Sheldon!
Prediction: In season 7 George and Mary try to rekindle their relationship by spicing rhings.up in the bedroom. Sheldon walks in on them while Mary is wearing a Cocktail Waitress Halloween costume.
I just LOVE LOVE it.. However, Sheldon at this age is a very annoying intelligent Brat!!!
I would like to see them both separate, have their affairs, realize that they belong together after all and find a deeper love. They spend a blissful year or two together and then George tragically dies of a heart attack while planning a vow renewal ceremony.
Missy is. Grown up. She. Sees. That she. Is engorged. This hurts in ways. No one. Can know. George has not shown her the love she needs. Mom Sheldon is. Her fav an does can not. Hide it. Sad.
Get rid of Sheldon , Sent him out of state to collage , Hate to say it But I;d take a belt to that little snob nose kid , The rest of the family are cool , Like to see the baby grow up ,,,, And Goergie make it with his girl !
I think it was great. I used to really like Sheldon but now he’s very rude & obnoxious. I was really glad that a few episodes too him out of the limelight & focused on Georgie & his baby & Missy striking out. Mary & Pastor Rob should go a little farther to explore their relationship. George considering an affair is interestingly funny but glad it didn’t happen. If Sheldon disappeared off the show I wouldn’t miss him. He’s just too rude.
I liked it! It’s real. Families have problems, and kids do things they shouldn’t do.
Based on what we learned from the Big Bang Sheldon’s dad passes away when Sheldon is 19?
The cast on Young Sheldon are perfect for their particular character and or part they play.
So bored with Sheldon! He’s annoying and I usually fast forward his parts. Enjoyed Georgie & Mandy shows. And wish there were more about Georgie, Missy and MeeMaw . It will be sad with out George, perhaps series will end with his demise. Maey is too “Holy Roly” for my likes! Andshe doesn’t pay enough attention to Georgie, Missy and husband George.
I have to respectfully disagree with the older Sheldon haters. Yes, there are times is difficult to watch. But the writers have actually done a good job with making his transition from a cute and highly intelligent, but sometimes emotionally void little boy into a teen in a “normal” family with a superior adult brain that still struggles to comprehend emotion, even during turmoil. People are expecting the character to be cute and funny when he is going through adolescence in a different way than most. The character he evolves into in the Big Bang theory, becomes a bizarre combination of the cute and innocent, but still condescending little boy, and an adult, who still struggles to connect with humor and emotion. That’s what makes adult Sheldon so amusing the watch. People are complaining that his character is a jerk. He kind of always has been, folks. LOL. His uncomfortable transition at this age that is completely different than Georgies and Missy’s makes perfect sense to me.
Thank you…I am so tired of these people who now can’t stand Sheldon.I never watched the Big Bang Theory ..but I knew that Sheldon was as they call it “On the spectrum, which means he has Asberger’s Syndrome. He is a genius but has no sense of empathy or people’s emotions. He is totally oblivious to irony. So at an age where boys are usually obnoxious…his condition makes him even more so. My husband and I still love the whole show and all the other characters are so wonderfully acted. For the complainers…just stop watching….!!
If they have the dad leave the show or any other family member other than the “young Sheldon” I’ll stop watching and & telling people I know to watch it!!!! Please get rid of that kid! He looks like he’s in a permanent “pucker” after sucking a the sourest lemon & walk & moves like a robot!! However, I love all the “OTHER COOPERS!! I adore big George & Mary, Missy, & especially Georgie & Mandy & Meemaw & Dale! & even Mandy’s Dad! Good casting with Will Sasso! But please recast another mom for Mandy! Please! There is absolutely nothing to the actress u have now! She is forgettable & has nothing for her to stand out! No chemistry with Will at all!! You can recast & put Jaime Prestly!! (from “Mom”) as Mandy’s mom! Her & Will have so much great chemistry! And by the way, I’m still not over CBS canceling MOM! That was so dumb! But anyway back to YS, please please send that sourpuss lips Sheldon to college now! And call the show The Coopers!! I’m so sorry to be blunt, but He is So so irritating to watch that he made me not watch Big Bang Theory!! I used to record every episode in TBS! Not anymore!! & I loved that show so much! But now, I’m so sick of Sheldon in every capacity thanks to that kid that overdoes every trait of adult Sheldon with his sour face, monotone speech & robot body! So now, I just Fast forward my tv when it’s his screen time on the show, cuz I literally cannot stand to watch that boy talk!!
Bravo Teresa! Out of all the posts I’ve seen here (and even my own!), yours is the most reasonable and coherent with regards to Young Sheldon. Love the idea of a new show called The Coopers! And your idea of having Jamie Priestly ad Mandy’s mom I’d brilliant!
