There’s no need to wonder what the future holds for the Descendants, because we finally have our first trailer for the next chapter in Disney’s kid-villain franchise.
Descendants: The Rise of Red introduces viewers to Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the perfectionist daughter of Cinderella. The polar opposites become unlikely allies when the Queen of Hearts stages a coup to take over Auradon, inspiring the girls to travel back in time and reverse the traumatic event that made the queen a villain in the first place.
The movie stars franchise newcomers Kylie Cantrall as Red, Malia Baker as Chloe, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, Dara Reneé as Ursula’s sister Uliana, Ruby Rose Turner as Bridget (young Queen of Hearts), Morgan Dudley as Ella (young Cinderella), Joshua Colley as young Captain Hook, Peder Lindell as Morgie, Grace Narducci as Fay (young Fairy Godmother), Jeremy Swift as Principal Merlin, and Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter.
Rise of Red also welcomes back several previous Descendants players, including China Anne McClain as Uma (aka Auradon Prep’s new principal!) and Melanie Paxson as the Fairy Godmother.
And for an extra shot of nostalgia, Brandy and Paolo Montalban are playing Cinderella and King Charming, reprising their roles from Disney’s 1997 made-for-TV production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Descendants: The Rise of Red premieres July 12 on Disney+, followed by its Disney Channel debut on Friday, Aug. 9 at 8/7c. Are you excited for the next chapter in the Descendants saga? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.
This feels like a total Rebooted Retcon of the Franchise… Are they just going to drop Jedidiah Goodarce’s Chad Charming from the Continuity and Canon of the Descendants Franchise in favor of this new Cinderella Daughter or is she his younger sister?
How come he’s not brought back since his family is such a vital part of the Story this time around? Kind of feels like a gross oversight to not include Chad in this one.
