Game-Accurate Fallout Trailer Welcomes You to ‘The End of the World’ — Get Amazon Binge-Release Date

Prime Video‘s Fallout cordially invites you to “the end of the world” with a brand new trailer released on Thursday morning.

Developed by Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, along with showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, Fallout is looking more and more like the authentic, blockbuster adaptation fans have been craving for decades.

Also of note: The eight-episode season will now premiere Thursday, April 11, with all eight episodes at once.

In terms of Easter eggs, the trailer above has a whole vault full of them. They include the iconic bobblehead, a glimpse of the New California Republic (NCR), the NCR’s two-headed bear flag, and plenty of locations, characters, and weapons that span the entire video game franchise, particularly the original 1997 edition.

And yes, the trailer features the beloved “I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire” song by The Ink Spots, which opens the Fallout 3 game.

Once again, we see Vaultdweller Lucy (played by Yellowjackets‘ Ella Purnell) leaving the comforts of Vault 33 and venturing to some dangerous — and familiar — locations. Shady Sands makes a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance, and it looks like the Adytum settlement and the Boneyard at large will be the main settings for this season, as expected. Lucy’s storyline is clearly the focus of the show, with her waking up to the realities of an irradiated world and what she needs to do to survive.

Walton Goggins (Justified) gets more to do in this trailer as “The Ghoul,” with strong hints of his backstory as a Vault salesman/marketer (think Fallout 4) who became an “immortal ghoul” thanks to the radiation effects of the bombs. He’s now a cantankerous, world-weary gunslinger (perhaps a Regulator…?) after presumably losing his wife and daughter 200 years ago.

Another character we see a lot more of is Maximus (Aaron Moten), a soldier in the Brotherhood of Steel (BOS). Looks like most of the “Power Armor” scenes we saw in the teaser trailer, with fights against Yao Guai and other mutated monsters, were from his perspective. There’s a hint at his backstory and motivations being rooted in the violent conflict between the BOS and NCR, down to an all-out battle we see between the factions at the Griffith Observatory.

While the first teaser gave a lot of attention to the weirder, darker side of the Fallout games, this new trailer is slightly more serious and nuanced about this world and what its characters want. “Everyone wants to save the world. They just disagree on how,” Maximus says to Lucy, probably when explaining why the BOS and NCR are at odds. That has to resonate for a character coming out of a Vault that apparently had a pretty bloody uprising for whatever reason, driving her to leave in the first place. Speaking of which, Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) makes another appearance as the likely doomed Vault 33 Overseer, but it’s still somewhat unclear on what his exact role will be in the show.

There’s so much more going on in this trailer for fans to devour, particularly when it comes to the game-accurate costumes and how brilliant the Power Armor looks in live-action, and down to the little details like the pre-war patriotic music that sounds straight out of the Enclave’s radio station in Fallout 3. The “Please Stand By” screen popping up multiple times. A Mister Orderly robot trying to “harvest” Lucy’s organs. Sarita Choudhury’s character — an NCR Ranger, maybe? — wielding a laser pistol. “The Ghoul” using some kind of chem. And a fun connection between the presumed settlement of Adytum being founded by the people from the “Demonstration Vault,” a clear callback to the early games.

And that’s all just scratching the surface. It really looks like the Fallout TV series has the makings of being not just a terrific adaptation of the games, but also a fascinating drama in its own right.

The series’ cast also includes Moisés Arias (The King of Staten Island), Michael Emerson (Evil), Leslie Uggams (Empire), Frances Turner (New Amsterdam), Dave Register, Zach Cherry (Severance), Johnny Pemberton (Superstore), Rodrigo Luzzi (Dead Ringers), Annabel O’Hagan (Law & Order: SVU) and Xelia Mendes-Jones (The Wheel of Time).
