It’s been a minute since Yellowstone fans got a fix of the Paramount Network drama. And it’s going to be a long minute more before the series returns for the back half of its fifth and final season. In the meantime, Paramount+ will endeavor to satisfy our craving with the latest addition to Taylor Sheridan’s slate of programming, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, a sort of extension of Yellowstone prequel 1883. On Thursday, the streamer not only pulled the trigger on a shoot-’em-up of a trailer for the wild Western but announced that it would premiere on Sunday, Nov. 5, with back-to-back episodes.
Sheridan and leading man David Oyelowo are both EPs on the anthology series that is set to follow the dusty trails of history’s iconic lawmen and outlaws; creator Chad Feehan is showrunner. Per the official Season 1 logline, the eight episodes will track Reeves’ “rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.”
In addition to two-time Emmy nominee Oyelowo (Nightingale) as the title character, the cast includes Dennis Quaid, Donald Sutherland, Garrett Hedlund, Barry Pepper, Forrest Goodluck and Justified alum Dale Dickey.

I’m really looking forward to this. I’m a massive David Oyelowo fan since Spooks. I have to say I enjoy the prequels now much more than Yellowstone.
Oh man, loved Spooks but never realized that it was him. It was years after the fact that Michael Fassbender was in Hex.
Wow! Taylor Sheridan & his team are creative geniuses. The content they are cranking out is pretty awesome!
I don’t do the Yellowstone thing but I’m going to have to give this a look; I’ve been hoping someone would do a series on Reeves ever since I first heard about him.
(He’s possibly the inspiration for the Lone Ranger and I wonder how many ignorant people will accuse the show of ripping that off… Hopefully promotion will emphasize he’s the original.)
The Lone Ranger was definitely based off of him. Bass Reeves would give silver dollars to kids and what is the horse called in the Lone Ranger? Silver LOL
Though I knew about it before the TV show The Watchmen on HBO, the show did an episode where a successful lawman was portrayed by a white guy to the audience. Granted the time periods were different but it was talking about it.
Well and timeless also did an epsidoe on bass reeves which again I was sad if was cancelled as even though it was a fictional series many of the people that featured were people in real life and there hidden figures episode was going to come out about the same tn mr the movie hidden figures was before it got delayed and it focused on the same 3 women as the movie did
Yessssss I LOVED that show and how they weaved historical figures into it.
I’m afraid to start watching another TS series. He has two on now he hasn’t finished.
Not going to get all excited about a series that could potentially end as abruptly as Yellowstone did. It’s disappointing that the talented writer Sheridan did not have the ability to see the Yellowstone project through with some type of ending.
It should be epic. Since most of the exploits really happened, writers must have had a lot of source material to work with, (3000 arrests?, are you sh-tting me).I hope they do the man justice.
I think Sherdan needs to finish all the other shows he has started before starting another one. He brings out all these characters, as a viewer, you get invested, then, boom…no more episodes. The only one that we saw the end to was 1823.
Maybe Taylor could finish Yellowstone before anything else. Less time on how good he is in the saddle and be better behind the camera
This really blows, we’ve waited for months being promised the new episodes of yellowstone only to be let down and left hanging. COME ON GUYS YOU’RE BETTER THAN THAT.
