Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine‘s May-December romance is setting the world on fire in the official trailer for The Idea of You.
Based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name — which is not Harry Styles fanfic! — the Prime Video movie (premiering Thursday, May 2) stars Hathaway as Solène, “a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Red, White & Royal Blue’s Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet,” reads the official synopsis. “When Solène must step in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival after her ex bails at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with Hayes and there is an instant, undeniable spark.”
“As they begin a whirlwind romance, it isn’t long before Hayes’ superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for,” the description continues.
Plus, there’s the age gap, with Solène insisting at one point in the trailer that she’s too old for Hayes — not that that stops them from passionately making out against a piano, in an alley, etc.
Ella Rubin (Max’s Gossip Girl) and Reid Scott (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) co-star as Solène’s daughter, Izzy, and her ex-husband, Daniel. Rounding out the cast are Annie Mumolo (Barbie, About a Boy the series), Perry Mattfeld (In the Dark), Jordan Aaron Hall, Mathilda Gianopoulos, Meg Millidge, Raymond Cham Jr., Jaiden Anthony, Viktor White and Dakota Adan.
The Idea of You was directed by Michael Showalter (Spoiler Alert), who also adapted the book with Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein).

Okay… this actually looks super cute!! I am here for it!
Nicholas was outstanding in RW&RB and funny in Bottoms and looks to be really good in Mary & George. Nicholas Galitzine is definitely having a moment!
His Bottoms character was such an absurdly superficial doofus that now it’s disconcerting to see him in more layered and sympathetic roles.
Agree. For example, his acting on the floating dock in RW&B, where he never said a word, was just so nuanced and revealing. And then … Bottoms. LOL
Her laugh at the end of the trailer gave Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman energy
Jennifer Westfeldt had a tiny guest role in last night’s episode of “Will Trent.” It was one of those plots where (non-spoiler alert) the casting alone signaled whodunnit.
Wow this actually looks really good! Looking forward to watching just wish it was out sooner!
Oh, I can’t wait for this. Galitizine would have chemistry with a post and Anne Hathaway looks like she is totally here for this. Looks fun, romantic and with some angst thrown in for good measure.
This looks like a cute gals night movie. I’ll give it a go.
In what world is Anne Hathway a ‘December’? She’s 41!
I read that at least a 10-year gap between partners warrants the May-December designation.
It’s a June-September romance.
People live to 90 these days… it’s more like March-May.
When it’s Hollywood and female is older one in the relationship. The middle age men has been romancing young hot female in LaLaLand for so long and yet they never refer them as May-December romance.
