The agribusiness sector in the Philippines is experiencing a notable shift towards sustainability, with innovative initiatives leading the way. In a recent article by Dinah Pura T. Depositario, we delve into three impactful examples showcasing how agribusinesses can harmonize profitability with environmental and social considerations. SIERREZA is a social enterprise founded by Cherrys Abrigo, sourcing products from Dumagat/Remontado indigenous farmers in Tanay, Rizal. By advocating organic farming and fair trade practices, SIERREZA empowers local farmers, supports sustainable agriculture, and preserves traditional practices while ensuring fair prices and diversifying income sources. Gubat Agritech Industries Company (GAICO), established by the Escoto siblings, processes coco coir and has emerged as a leader in using sustainable materials for erosion control. GAICO’s innovative use of coconut husks and investments in solar-powered technology demonstrates how waste materials can be transformed into valuable products, creating local jobs and reducing environmental impact. The Baje Weavers Association, founded in 2017, continues the tradition of pandan weaving in Iloilo. This initiative preserves local weaving skills and provides sustainable, biodegradable alternatives to plastic products. By incorporating local artists' designs and empowering women weavers, the association promotes cultural heritage and environmental responsibility. These examples highlight that agribusinesses, often seen as contributors to environmental challenges, can indeed drive positive change. They demonstrate that aligning business objectives with sustainable practices benefits economic growth, community well-being, and environmental health. 💚What sustainable agribusiness practices have you encountered or are aware of? Share your experiences or insights! 📖 Learn more about these transformative initiatives and their impacts by reading the full article by Dinah Pura T. 🌍 Climate Crisis on Food Security in Vietnam 🌾 In this latest review, Phung Phi Tran sheds light on the severe impacts of climate change on Vietnam’s food security. As climate patterns grow more unpredictable, with rising temperatures, irregular rainfall, and sea-level rise, the country's agricultural sector—on which over 60% of the population depends—is at significant risk. By 2050, rice yields could plummet by up to 24.6% without swift action, which would have devastating consequences for food security and rural livelihoods. Phung Phi Tran’s comprehensive analysis deeply explores these challenges, focusing on the Mekong Delta—a region crucial for Vietnam’s rice production. Rising sea levels threaten to submerge up to 1.7 million hectares of farmland, while saltwater intrusion already affects coastal areas. 💡 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐡𝐢 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞? The review outlines actionable strategies, including investing in climate-resilient crops, improving disaster preparedness, and incorporating indigenous knowledge systems into policy-making. These solutions are crucial to ensuring long-term food security in Vietnam and protecting the livelihoods of vulnerable communities. This article emphasizes the need for a coordinated response from all stakeholders—government agencies, local communities, and international organizations—to implement these adaptive measures and mitigate the risks posed by climate change. ➡️ Explore the full review by Phung Phi Tran and learn more about the pathways to securing Vietnam's food future in the face of escalating climate threats: https://lnkd.in/gaDmrwMu #ClimateChange #FoodSecurity #Vietnam #Sustainability #Agriculture #Resilience #Impact #Adaptation

𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐒𝐆 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐌𝐌: 𝐀 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 In his insightful article, Jonathan Lai sheds light on a crucial aspect of integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria with Impact Measurement and Management (IMM)—the role of standardized frameworks. 🔴Why Standardization Matters? Standardized frameworks like IRIS+ and OPIM play a pivotal role in ensuring that investments deliver genuine impact while aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These tools simplify the measurement and reporting process, reducing the risk of "impact washing" and enhancing transparency. By adopting these standards, businesses and investors can: Ensure Clear Impact Goals: Define and track specific impact objectives. Enhance Investor Confidence: Provide credible and comparable impact data. Streamline Reporting: Facilitate consistent and transparent impact assessment. Jonathan Lai’s article explores how leveraging these standardized frameworks can transform the way we approach impact investing and achieve sustainable results. 👉Dive into the full article to understand how standardization can drive more effective and trustworthy impact measurement: https://lnkd.in/g4tMebkt #ESG #ImpactMeasurement #Standardization #SustainableInvestment #ImpactInvesting #SDGs
