About us
The Grumeti Fund is a non-profit organization carrying out wildlife conservation and community development work in the western corridor of the Serengeti ecosystem in Tanzania. Our vision is a world in which people and wildlife live together sustainably, forever. Today 165 dedicated staff protect, manage and monitor Grumeti’s concessions where the near-barren plains of 15 years ago teem with wildlife once more. Their passion and commitment are driven by a history and led by a mission. Our mission is to contribute to the conservation of the Serengeti ecosystem, its natural landscape, and its wildlife. To do this we partner with local communities and other stakeholders to build capacity and thereby help them to realize their development aspirations. We believe that by doing this we can help to create a world in which people and wildlife live together, sustainably, forever.

Physical fitness is essential for our game scouts, enabling them to patrol vast distances, navigate challenging terrain, and respond quickly to threats from poachers and wildlife. It enhances their focus and decision-making under pressure, ensuring both their safety and that of the wildlife they protect. For our scouts, fitness is more than strength and endurance—it’s a critical tool in the fight against poaching and in safeguarding wildlife. Photo Credit: Dany Samwel

Exciting update! The first calves have been born to some of the initial 15 families in our CLIP (Climate Resilience and Livelihood Improvement Project) program. This means they’re officially starting their journey into the dairy milk business, opening the door to better livelihoods. Once these calves grow up, they’ll be passed on to other families, spreading opportunity and creating a ripple effect of empowerment. It’s all about building a cycle of support that drives lasting change and sustainability in the community! Photo Credit: Kyara Kalulu

Our Tree Nursery Program is all about giving back to the community by distributing indigenous trees to schools, public offices, and other local spaces. Here’s James Bwatondi from our Relationships Department showing students at Chamriho Primary School how to plant and care for these trees. The school received 50 tree seedlings during this visit, and they’ve promised to nurture them into a green legacy for future generations. Photo Credit: Kyara Kalulu

Stella Simon’s story shows how education and determination can change lives. After joining our three-month community learning program in 2021, Stella discovered her passion for tailoring and turned it into a thriving business. The program gave her the skills she needed to start her own tailoring shop, where she now creates beautiful custom clothing for her community. Her business has brought her financial independence and allows her to support her two children. Stella’s journey doesn’t stop there—she’s inspiring other women to chase their dreams and start their own businesses too. Her success highlights the power of our community learning programs to empower individuals and boost local economies. We’re so proud to support changemakers like Stella! #localcommunities #womenempowerment #sustainableconservation Photo credit: Kyara Kalulu

One of our most impactful and inspiring initiatives is our Girls Empowerment Sessions. These gatherings bring together over 600 girls, creating a safe space to learn and discuss important and sensitive topics related to women’s health and empowerment. Each girl also receives reusable sanitary pads, ensuring their well-being and supporting their education. Together, we’re fostering the next generation of strong, confident young women ready to thrive. #girlsempowerments #girlspower #communityempowerment #sustainableconservation

Bringing Conservation to Life Under the Stars! One of our favorite ways to educate and engage our communities is through outdoor movie nights. We transform our wilderness into an open-air cinema, showcasing captivating wildlife conservation videos that inspire and ignite passion. These relaxed evenings are not just about watching—they're about coming together, sharing knowledge, and sparking discussions on how we can all contribute to conservation efforts. Together, we’re making a difference, one movie night at a time!" Photo Credit: Kyara Kalulu
