HEALTHCARE: Does facility direct funding work well in Tanzania? Tanzania’s Direct Facility Financing model is proving the value of financial autonomy in improving healthcare. By transferring funds directly to primary care facilities, the model empowers facility managers to tackle community-specific health needs. 🏥💡 However, a study in Singida highlights hurdles like delays, complex approvals, and training gaps that limit its impact. 📉🩺 To unlock the model’s full potential, experts from Ifakara Health Institute, Results for Development, PO-RALG, and USAID Tanzania urge streamlined processes, greater budget flexibility, and better training for healthcare providers. 🔄💰📝 📚 Read the full study in the link below. >> https://lnkd.in/e3rrPPCs >> #IFAKARAnews #HealthFinancing #PublicHealth

MALARIA: Microplastics linked to insecticide resistance in mosquitoes Malaria control faces a new threat! Microplastics (MPs) are not just harming the environment, they are also making malaria control harder. A new study by scientists from the University of Dar es Salaam, the University of Stirling and Ifakara Health Institute shows MPs increase insecticide resistance in Anopheles gambiae s.s., the primary malaria vector. The scientists found that MPs in mosquito breeding sites: 📉 Reduce insecticide efficacy. 🧬 Trigger genetic and biochemical adaptations in mosquitoes. 🌱 Accelerate insecticide resistance over generations. The study calls for urgent field studies to reduce pollution & strengthen control programs. >> https://lnkd.in/eRQzBc9M >> #IFAKARAnews #MalariaControl #EnvironmentalHealth
