According to the 2022 Population and Housing Census, Tanga City Council is home to 393,429 people, with most living in urban areas. Among the city’s indigenous groups, the Zigua, Sambaa, Bondei, Makonde, and Digo are the largest. The Bondei and their Digo neighbors share the coastal landscape, relying on fishing and livestock keeping to sustain their livelihoods. Meanwhile, in the Usambara Mountains, the Bondei join the Zigua, Sambaa, and others in preserving a shared cultural heritage rooted in the region. Tanga’s communities are as diverse as its landscapes — from the mountains to the coast, traditions thrive. #TangaYetu #OurTanga

As we mark Global Entrepreneurship Week, we celebrate inspiring stories like Mwanakombo’s—a 19-year-old who transformed her life through the Mindset Change and Entrepreneurship Project by RLabs Tanzania under the TangaYetu program. Before the mindset change training, Mwanakombo depended on her parents for everything. Just two weeks after the program, she found the confidence to launch her own hairdressing business. Today, she’s financially independent, earning respect from her family, and serving as a role model for other youth. Her story reminds us that a shift in mindset is often the first step toward entrepreneurial success. Through this project, 1,036 young people in Tanga were empowered with skills to build businesses, with 290 ventures launched across sectors. This Global Entrepreneurship Week, let’s celebrate the power of youth, innovation, and the resilience of entrepreneurs who are shaping a brighter future. #GlobalEntrepreneurshipWeek #YouthEmpowerment #Entrepreneurship #TangaYetu

Today, on World Science Day for Peace and Development, we’re celebrating young innovators like Neema William at STEM Park Tanga! Neema, a Form Two student at Masechu Secondary School, has taken part in several STEM Park programs and even created a unique project—a cane that helps visually impaired individuals walk independently. “My involvement in STEM Park programs has really helped in my studies,” Neema shares. “Here, we get to learn through hands-on activities, so you can see what the teacher is explaining. It’s encouraged me to work harder and understand more.” Neema encourages fellow students to visit STEM Park to spark creativity and deepen their understanding of science!
